I was looking on the internet and found this. http://wargus.sourceforge.net/index.shtml
Would it be possible to port this over to the psp.?

yeah warcraft 2 was like a......gba game what with the graphics the simple terrain coding i think you can EASILY port this game to the psp and heck its older than starcraft!

hmm, there is a source code.

It would be great :) This is a cool game.

Hmm, I spent quite some time with warcraft back in the day..

It seems that the only way Starcraft could be for PSP would be if there's an N64 emulator capable of running the N64 version.
However, this source seems to make Warcraft 2 possible, at least!
Stop me if I'm being assumptuous.
It would be awesome if Warcraft 2 could be on the PSP! There aren't any RTSs for the PSP for some reason (or even the DS with its touch screen), so a great RTS like this would be ideal.
Warcraft 2 may not be as good as Starcraft, but it was still pretty awesome in its day, and something like Wargus would apparently make it possible.
And think of it: You could make Warcraft 2 maps on your PC, then play them on the PSP. Awesome.
I mean... I can't port it, what with being a homebrew whore (as opposed to a homebrew pimp), but surely there are people out there that can.
Man, I bet a lot of people would love to see this come to life on the PSP.

Hopefully someone has the time. For it takes it.

Agreed

This game would be worthwhile to port and probably a great Dream On Compo entry.

Broadus
September 10th, 2006, 21:22
Definitely.
All we need is some brave soul (or souls) to do the porting.

September 10th, 2006, 23:09
are you serious? what about the controls? the game would be unplayable with the nub.

Broadus
September 11th, 2006, 01:41
Use your imagination, buddy.
Blizzard made Warcraft 2 for the Playstation 1 and Sega Saturn, and they controlled well without the joystick, just using the D-pad instead.
Though it's definitely true that the PSP nub isn't very good at all for precision movement like you'd need to select things in Warcraft 2. But the D-pad would be all right, for the most-part. That, and the awesomeness of Warcraft 2 would make up for the slightly inconvenient controls.

There never was a WarCraft for N64. You're probaly thinking of StarCraft 64. As for a port of the game, I would pay money to see it become a reality.

Broadus
September 11th, 2006, 03:41
Dude, I never said there was a Warcraft 64. If you read the entire post, I was saying that Starcraft was much better than Warcraft 2, but Warcraft 2 could be ported, unlike Starcraft.

PSPdemon
September 11th, 2006, 04:05
well....

I dont think Warcraft 2 would be able to be used.... ( only because the site says you require a cd to use those textures.......so we dont want to have ripped textures, sprites, ect...... ) BUT......the engine - Stratagus - is a well looking into and could be very well ported.... i would probably make that into a starcraft/advanced wars style game ( meaning its not based on the futureistic look of starcraft but has the same feel as it :p )

i will look into this more....

Thanks for Everything,
PSPdemon

Yeah, that Stargus (http://stratagus.sourceforge.net/) looks great! I bet some talented PSP coders could make a lot of it. If I'm not wrong there aren't any RTS-games for the PSP? I bet there are a lot RTS-lovers here though :)

I like warcraft, but a rts game that I would really like to see ported would be Age of Empires. I know some dude once tried to do it, but he never finished. Age of Empires was awesome, i still play it from time to time.

Broadus
September 11th, 2006, 07:38
Yeah, PSPdemon, Warcraft 2 itself couldn't be supplied, but the PSP-ported engine and some instructions could. I myself happen to own the old Warcraft 2 game on some ancient CD, so I'm all set for testing or whatever.

Age of Empires was really good, but it bugged the heck out of me how you couldn't tell your units to "aggressive move". As in, they go somewhere, but automatically fight enemies along the way. You'd have to tell them to defend themselves like in Command and Conquer. Though that movement problem could be fixed by the patrol command.
And the dude that was "porting" Age of Empires didn't actually do anything, just took the Starcraft PSP source and changed some pictures. Kind of disappointing...

warcraft 2 was awesome, I never bothered with Starcraft but warcraft 2 is the only game I've brought 4 times over the years, when the psx emu's start rolling out we'll be able to play it, but the psx version sucked ass compared to the original so I too am joining the 'port warcraft 2' bandwagon.:)

KenshinKajima

So. . .anyone gonna even give it a shot?

Someone needs to put a prize up for doing this. . .

I'll donate $20 to a paypal account if some one makes a successfull, complete, fullspeed port. If someone tries and only releases a couple of lame beta's without actually finishing the project, then I probably wouldn't donate. But if it was really good, i might throw in a little more $$$

Broadus
September 14th, 2006, 01:05
Me, too! I'd donate cash to see something like this come to life.

Indeed, mcvader, the PS1 emulator will let us play the PS1 version of Warcraft 2, but it would be just like an N64 emulator letting us play Starcraft, in that it would really suck compared to the computer game. But you already know the PS1 version sucks.
One reason the PS1 version of WC2 would suck would be because you can't make any maps for it, which would ruin a lot of the fun in having a PSP port of the computer game.

Is there some kind of overly complicated "how to homebrew" guide? I mean, nobody wanting to take up this project makes me want to do it, though I'd do a crappy job.

Some one should really give this ago it would be the best game on psp at the moment i think.

sounds pretty time consuming, but it can be done.

too bad the psp keyboard was cancelled by $ony, that would had made this port great.

you can always try posting in their dev forum :)

Considering that the Stratagus engine requires 64 megs of RAM, the PSP seems a little underpowered for the job?

I know I'm MONTHS late, but thanks to the perfectly functional PS1 emulator, we can have Warcraft 2 and the expansion running on the PSP at full speed with all of the features flawlessly intact. Except the crappy sound, but who cares! Warcraft 2!
All assuming you actually have your hands on the Warcraft 2 PS1 game, that is.

Hate to break it to you guys...but it's been done.

Like 10 years ago XD

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/data/199257.html

Just find yourself a copy of Warcraft 2 for the PSX, and convert it to the PSP. My guess would be to try eBay.
