Ubisoft aims to rival Call Of Duty with Gearbox-built title
Gearbox software, the studio that pulled Duke Nukem Forever out of development limbo, is building a new Brothers In Arms title for Ubisoft.
Known as Brothers in Arms Furious 4, the game will be Ubisoft’s attempt to succeed in a games market gripped by military FPS fever.
The publishing giant’s closest rivals, EA and Activision, are both locked in a game of one-upmanship with their Battlefield and Modern Warfare franchises.
Ubisoft’s intent to enter this space is made clear by signing with Gearbox, a renowned studio with an FPS pedigree.
Gearbox was responsible for developing the original Brothers In Arms games and is believed still holds the IP.
The game is scheduled for release in the first half of calendar year 2012, Ubisoft said.
“The Brothers in Arms franchise has been renowned for its gritty direction that has dropped players into the middle of World War II,” said Adam Novickas, US director of marketing at Ubisoft.
“With Brothers in Arms Furious 4, Gearbox brings the action to a whole new level filled with unexpected twists and over-the-top battles that are sure to please new players and fans alike.”
