On Monday, Sega applied for a European trademark for Yakuza Dead Souls.
While several games in the Yakuza series are yet to head west - PS3's Kenzan, which was set in the 16th century, and PSP titleBlack Panther - the name points strongly to a western localisation of zombie spin-off Yakuza Of The End.
The game's planned March release in Japan was delayed (http://www.next-gen.biz/news/earthquake-brings-cancellations-and-delays) following the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, but went straight in at the top of the charts (http://www.next-gen.biz/news/yakuza-end-debuts-number-one-japan) when it was finally released in June. Sega shipped (http://www.next-gen.biz/news/yakuza-series-ships-5-million)more than 400,000 units of the game in just two weeks.
Sega's Daisuke Sato told Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/15/sato-if-sega-localizes-yakuza-of-the-end-it-will-have-new-c/#) at the Tokyo Game Show earlier this month that any localisation of Yakuza Of The End would mean tweaking its control system, saying: "For the western version ofYakuza Of the End - if that's going to happen - then we will tweak the controls, to be closer to other western shooting franchises."
