View Full Version : eLoader 0.99 "Märzenbier" Released - Full Support for v2.70/2.71 Firmware

wraggster
September 21st, 2006, 23:16
Fanjita (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/search.php?searchid=743278) and Ditlew (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/search.php?searchid=743279) have just released a new ELoader (Homebrew Loader) for the PSP, heres the release details:

We thought you might like a little something to celebrate the fact that it's Oktoberfest soon. So what better to raise a drink for than a new eLoader release, named after the Oktoberfest classic, Märzenbier!

The major new feature is support for v2.70 and v2.71 firmwares. That's right, full support for these 2 firmwares is now added, using a new kernel-mode syscall-finding technique (which is why 2.80 support is not yet possible).

As well as support for the v2.7 firmwares, there is also limited kernel mode support on v2.5-v2.71. This means that the .init program section (which contains functions declared with the 'constructor' attribute) will be called in kernel-mode for homebrew built with the kernel mode attribute. Note that you cannot create kernel-mode threads from the init functions in this release, due to security checks in the firmware.

The increased kernel access has also allowed us to add a built-in exception handler to eLoader, so that crashes can be caught and debugged more easily, as well as usually preventing the need to reboot.

Working on v2.70 Firmware (More Confirmations to Come)

Dual Tetris
File Assistant
Flower demo by Moppi
Homer's RIN
PSP Quake
PSP Radio
PSP Revolution

I personally can't use this as I have a 1.50 PSP but this should help open the door to more homebrew for owners of TA-082 motherboard PSP's who can't downgrade.

So once again, Fanjita & Ditlew deserve immense credit for making homebrew capability widespread to almost everyone with a PSP.

May the Legend live on forever!!!

Wraggster, if you're going to use my compatibility data, I'd appreciate it if you'd include the original links to the source.

I've worked really hard to make the homebrew database a useful public resource, but for some reason you refuse to link to it.

Incidentally, Noobz is no longer just Ditlew and me - there's a larger group of us now, it's better to just use the team name.

Anyway, hope you guys enjoy it :)

hey all,
i understand what kernel mode means, but i'm confused on what it actually DOES for us....does it just mean that programs that require kernel function calls can now be run with 0.99?

If so what about programs that change the initial boot screen menu (XMB i think?)

also can we use devhook?

thanks

Awesome news !!! Couldn't be happier. I will definetly have to try this out. I updated from 2.60 to 2.71 with the original thoughts of downgrading to 1.50 but just never got the guts to do it. Hopefully with a little time all homebrew will work on this breakthrough. SONY give up on the FW changes already.

2.6 TA-082 - Now - File Assistant and Daedalus no longer work with the TIFF eloader. Neither does DGEN. DGEN 1.10c does work with the GTA eloader though. So does Daedalus.

Stella 0.2 DOES work with the TIFF eloader now though. Noice!

What I've noticed with EVERY iteration of the new eloader is that the TIFF and the GTA eloader crashes the first time used after install, and then works fine. Same thing goes for most homebrew software, the first time you try to run it, it crashes, then it runs fine. That is - for the stuff that works.

razorak
September 22nd, 2006, 14:31
Daedalus works with my ta-082 2.6
i even managed to run snestyl 0.4.1 standard version. 0.4.2 gives me a whiteout

for fileassistant i would recommend 0.06 tiff version, it's faster and have more functions as well as easier navigation as well as do stuff

Noting above dgen0.7 worked for me ever before. As for a genesis emu might i recommend you pspgenesis? it has savestates and the sound ain't too bad either

Weird. Daedalus runs on the GTA elaoder for me, but not on the TIFF elaoder. what version are you running?

Yeah, PSPgenesis is great, but DGEN runs some of the games PSPgenesis doesn't. And on TIFF eloader 0.9.8, DGEN 1.10c worked occasionally(once in every 3 or 4 tries). Now it just crashes outright.

I'll try the TIFF file assistant, tks.

I say again, it's REALLY NICE to see Stella 0.2 working. Now if someone would just port a decent Atari 7800 emu to the PSP, all would be right with the world, and all the Atari systems would be available (including the BEST one - the 7800)

I have a 2.71.

I installed this today. I definately reccommend the easy installer version. Makes it a LOT easier.

I loaded Stella v0.2, and as other people have already mentioned, it works just fine.

However, I am not 100% happy that I seem to have to pull the battery to get back to the main PSP screen or to even shut it off.

Is there any easier way to exit besides pulling the battery out?

Tron_Fan
September 23rd, 2006, 02:40
PSPGenesis v0.18c works fine with 2.71.

NesterJ 1.11 also works great on 2.71.

Man, this is awesome.

Also, I see that in NesterJ the coder allowed for a graceful exit from their application. This puts me back at the main eLoader menu, and from there I can exit gracefully (Start button) without having to remove the battery.

So I guess it's not the eLoader's fault as much as it's really the apps fault?

Is there anything that can be done in the eLoader to accomodate for this? (i.e. defaulting back to the main menu when something is done?)

Hi, I need some help.
I have PSP version 2.70 and i installed the 0.99 eloader and it's working properly. I got the snes9TYL 0.4.2 from http://psp-homebrew.eu. inside has a folder for 1.0 and 1.5 only. So i copied the 1.5 one into my game folder in psp. It seems to be working but when i put roms in it into the rom folder the roms just crash whenever i try to run them. Anyone can tell me which step did i do wrongly? Or is it only certain roms can work with the snes9TYL? If so what are they? Would appreciate very much if anyone can help. Thanks!

Hey,

I got snes9TYL 0.4.2 to run on my 2.71. here's what I did:

1) Downloaded snes9xTYL-0.4.2.rar from http://yoyofr92.free.fr/psp/snespsp.html
2) Extracted the .rar file.
3) Copied the 1.0 folder from my PC to my PSP into the GAME folder
4) Copied ROMS of games I already own for my SNES into ROMS folder.
5) Launched Marzenbier and snes9xTYL launched... as you say... but ROMS also worked. Super Mario World and Blackthorne.

To clarify... I did try the 1.5 version, but in the eLoader menu it showed up as "NOT HOMEBREW" and would not launch.

Of course, it does do some wonky things, so maybe performance is different for different people. For instance, I find that sometimes the eLoader will not launch. It will just sit there and cause the mem stick light to blink rapidly and then freeze my PSP.

I have found if I shut it off, and then wait a few minutes, and then restart it it usually launches. If I reboot and try to launch it immediately, it does the same thing.
