Ive upgraded to my new Dark alex firmware and it is GREAT! Im thinking it might be the new "golden firmware"

Im wondering how everyone else feels about it... It seems to do everything!

Can anyone think of anything that might make it even better? It seems to be better than Harleygs custom firmware....Opinions?

More open? In what way?

there is 100% compatibility with everything (up to 2.71 for now)

and more experience with 1.5 means more features will appear

this new 2.71SE-A fw isn't gunna be better than a 1.5(custom) unless it is able to do more than a 1.5(custom)...until then 1.5 is still the golden fw but u never know what Dark_AleX has instore, so we'll see

It seems it can do anything that Custom firmware can do, including loading custom PRX's. There seem to be no instructions on how to do it though. However, I'm not sure if you can customise the fonts or the background like you can on a 1.5.

As for me, I never used them functions anyway, so this 2.71SE is the firmware for me :) No more need for devhook really, as I don't use ISO's.

Besides, integrating an ISO loader is in his TO-DO list.

The only thing I don't like about the current 2.71 custom firmware is missing Cheat Device support. If someone could incorporate that, then I would think it's the "golden firmware". :)

untill its proven more safer then il upgrade too it. plus this new "gloden fireware" is still in its infancy and is new. im sure there are gonna be updates to this. il try it when im sure that its finalized. until then im sticking to my 1.5

nice new avi gunntims0103, haven't seen u here in a while what's going on? anyways i myself will wait on this(i may or may not want to seeing how i can do everything already)...and Cloudhunter i know it does what a 1.5 custom can(which is what i have) so why would i upgrade and flash my psp when i am able to do everything already

True. Only advantage I can see really, is no need to use devhook, unless for ISO's. Although it is likely that it will be integrated eventually. The only reason I have for using devhook is for loading GTA cheat device through a lower firmware :P

its basically only for convenience. nothing new just less booting and rebooting and junk like that. when i know its 99% safe i'll go for it. id also like to see an easy installer released.

I am going to take the plunge, and film the process, so people can see what it look's like.

You can always go back to 1.5 if you dont like it. This however suits my needs perfectly... for the time being anyway...

I still think harleygs is the best dual booting owns. Im gonna stick to 1.5 cfw unless this becomes much better than harley gs.

Has anyone actually tried going back to 1.5 from this Custom Firmware an if so, how, as the readme is a bit hard to follow.

I've upgraded to 2.71SE-A

I dont miss 1.5 - everything still runs from my PSP/GAME150 dir. what doesnt run??

if DA does add an iso loader into it, then thats a different story. for me, i dont care. I can now run my umds and my emulators without devhook.

The thing is, that with this, the need for dual booting is removed. Thats why I like it... Although, I would like to be able to load a pre defined homebrew on boot up, ie: by holding the X button to boot up snes9x...

this IS the new golden firmware.

no question about it.

of course, some "tweaking" apps will have to be modified to support the dual game folders, but there is not one homebrew that does not work atm.

there is a SMALL amount of tweakage required for SOME homebrew...read my post in this particular forum section on tips and tricks to get those corrupt homebrew un-corrupt.

and yes, d_a needs to do some tweakage to the firmware....but as far as compatibility, i've found 100% compatibility aside from firmware modding programs. and i already changed my font safely, and im working on changing my gameboot.

golden firmware? eventually. right now its just a tint away...i'd say white gold atm =)

ALSO there is no more need to k-xploit or un-k-xploit....2.71 SE-A supports them both!

although w/ k-xploited homebrew you are gonna wanna enable "hide corrupt icons".

1.00 homebrew....1.50 homebrew....2.00/2.50/2.60 homebrew....2.71 TIFF homebrew (unless im mistaken)....2.71 HEN-C homebrew....

ALL SUPPORTED!

this is on the golden brick road alright, more and more im thinkin bout these benefits....i love it!

bullhead
October 9th, 2006, 20:41
Have you it installed yourself Kando? Im loving it, (not in the McDonalds way though, because that is bad stuff)

There are a few additions I would like for it though, A few plugins would be nice, like mods you add yourself, depending on your preferences, ie: running mp3s over the XMB.

well seeing how all the emus and apps are only made for 1.0/1.5(2.0-2.6 use the 1.0) so u see 2.0-2.6 home brew was 1.0 homebrew, my point is 1.5ers can still play everything with kernel access and with harleyg's cfw + a bunch of mods already + devhook which gives us 2.71 features w/ browser we wouldn't need to use the 2.71SE-A cfw....unless like i have said before this cfw will have more/better features than i already have with 1.5(custom) in the next releases, so i'll probably jump on the bandwagon eventually :D

hehe yea i jumped on as soon as it was released =)

i love not havin to devhook to play my .swf flash files too :D

and good point w/ how 2.xx was originally 1.00/1.50, but still, its nice to not have to worry bout which one to get :P

the new custom firmware 2.71SE-A made by Dark_AleX and his crew, basically combined 1.5 and 2.71 making it easier to load umd's and hombrew without devhook and there is no booting back and fourth

October 11th, 2006, 02:36
ahh, we really need 2.81 emulation on 1.5, unless they've already done that? Anyway, there's a lot of games that are coming out that will make my wallet, well, stay the exact same

I have upgraded to the new 2.71-se and noticed that my Valkyrie Profile game now crashes when entering a battle (played from the umd) but the iso works fine with devhook 46. This is an issue i've noticed there could be more so wait a while on this!!!!!!!!!! The umd is played faster than with devhook the loading times are increased:mad:

^i did it, it's awesome but it will be better once add-ons are released like to overclock it, auto-usb on the XMB, and when they get x-flash to work(hopefully)

October 11th, 2006, 03:40
I love X-flash,one of my favs, thats a must have for me!
If I could tweak it like I did 1.5 so easily,I might do it.
Still having a few more people test it out will make me feel safer....

dude i installed it and it was alot better than downgrading, it tells u exactly what's going on, the readme is really easy to understand the steps take no more than a minute or two...i can live without my bloody claw custom gameboot for awhile, could probably do it on my devhook incase i start to miss it lol :p
