The normal psp video player you access from the menu only supports mp4 files, you need to either convert them to mp4 with an app for you pc such as PSP Video 9 (http://www.pspvideo9.com/), or look into a homebrew video player app for the psp itself such as this (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=20597&highlight=PSPlayerMT).

While the latter can play avi files on the PSP if they are within the players limits, personally I still convert my files to mp4 with pspvideo9. Takes very little effort, if you have any issues with picking the right profile let me know and I'll post the ones I use.

EDIT: Just noticed you're on 2.80 so I would say converting the avi is your only option as you have no access to homebrew at the moment. :(

yes. homebrew like that is out of the question atm. Me personally i use PSP Video Express which is completly free and it will automatically transfer files for you. But ive been waiting to play AVI files because I have an episode of the boondocks i want to put on my PSP :-)
