Stefano Russello (http://www.stefanorussello.it/) posted a new release of his excellent PSP Brew Application that helps you change icons and helps make v1.50 software work on V1.0 and vice versa, heres whats new:

PSP Brew is one of the most powerful PBP editor & converter for psp.
Suitable for devs and normal homebrew users thansk to his WYSIWYG interface.

Most important update is in the firmware 2.71 SE-A/B support, wich permit to sort Homebrews & dumps on ours 2.71 SE psp.

Stefano Russello wrote:
- French Language fixed (by Iron_Man)
- Sorting update: new 2.71SE support (GAME,GAME150,GAME271) & ISO
- Icon to start a fast manual sorting.
- Now when the psp is connected in USB mode, you can right-click on his drive icon to perform sorting.
(To enable this please note that you have to reconnect your psp after the first Pspbrew boot)
- In HB listing, when corrupted data is present, pspbrew show the related directory.
- Other small fixes

well all of the homebrew works on PSP, psp brew shows all the homebrew, lets me rearrange them, but when i click sort homebrew, they are still in old unsorted order in XMB menu

It used to be one of my favs but for a long time now pspbrew has been broken for me no matter what version I use. I've tried uninstalling cleaning my registry, uninstalling my psp, reinstalling pspbrew, then plugging the psp back in and still no go. The problem is that it always says "psp not found".

Anyone have a clue how to fix this? Does this program look for the 2 weird hidden files that go on your memory stick when you format it with the psp? (memstickpro.ind or sth)

This is really good stuff. Much thanks to Stefano Russello for this.

One thing I know about how the PSP sorts applications is that it does that by taking the timestamp of each one.

For example, suppose you download the latest firmware update (just downloading only, not executing it afterwards) and check the apps in the memory stick, it will be on the top. Why? Because it's the most recent thing that was added. If you put something else fresh in the GAME folder, then it would be the first one to appear, because of the timestamp thing.

Apparently, it also applies to the GAME and GAME150 folders too. If the timestamp for the GAME150 folder was later that the GAME folder, the homebrew apps would appear first and in the order of each timestamp indicates. How it would go this this:

GAME150 - latest timestamp
app - most recent added
app - next most recent added
app - next most recent one added after the previous and so on...

GAME - earlier timestamp
app - most recent added
app - next most recent added
app - next most recent one added after the previous and so on...

Sorry if this all sounds confusing but that's how I can explain all that. There are timstamp chaing tools on the Internet that can edit those of folders if most of your homebrew you use are in there. But really, PSP Brew should't have a problem unless you're trying to order apps from different folders to show something like this:

app in GAME150 folder
app in GAME folder
app in GAME folder
app in GAME150 folder
app in GAME folder
and so on...

Remember, this is just my guess if it's to do with ordering hombrew applications in that way, okay?

EDIT: I tried PSP Brew 0.91 and when you do try to arrange homebrew in the order you wish, doen't work. I figure that it's because of a bug in the program. If so, hope it gets fixed fast!

so what kind of PBP and Eboots does this work with and what does it really do?

I think there is something wrong with the .zip file it says 'Unsuspected end to archive'! I think it needs to be rehosted.

First... the .zip is fine. The host is having troubles though. My download quit (saying that it was completed) at 6xx kb. I had to force my system to re-download it but it was fine after that. Your downloaded file should be like 1.3MB.

Second... I can't believe that after all the time I've spent in the past trying to make pspbrew work again and couldn't... that I answered my own damn question in my previous post!!! Tou MUST have memstick.ind in the root of your memory card for pspbrew to work. If you don't have it, move all of your files off of the memory stick, use the PSP to reformat it (the PSP or probably any sony device like a camera or something will create 2 .ind files for you) and put your stuff back on :D

I remember having problems with certain homebrew working correctly without deleting the .ind files. If you have troubles like this move the .ind files to your desktop or something and just put them on when you need to sort your homebrew :) pspbrew seems to work fine without mstk_pro.ind but I'm not sure what either of the .ind files are for anyway

Edit: the problem I had with homebrew working with the .ind files on there is totally wierd because I just realized that both of them are ZERO BYTE FILES. So you should just be able to make a new file called MEMSTICK.IND and that should be enough. the real one is marked as hidden and system file.

PSP Brew is probably the best app there is for the PSP.
But, to sort my icons, I just use PSP Content Manager v1.4.
As easy as it gets - just drag and drop the homebrew icons in the program to the desired order, click 'Apply sort' and you're done. :D

I'll be damned. I noticed that 0.91 kept saying that my PSP could not be found. I figured it was a bug in PSP Brew until I read your post.....

I noticed on the root of my memory stick, I had MSTICK_PRO.IND and not MEMSTICK.IND. So alls that I did was rename MSTICK_PRO back to MEMSTICK and PSP Brew 0.91 now works and recognizes my PSP just fine.

So what the hell renamed that file? Is it something that happens when emulating a firmware like 2.71 via DevHook?

If anyone has any idea on what changes the MEMSTICK.IND file it would really be interesting to learn about. THANKS!!!

This is an awesome app by the way....

Veskgar -> I beleive in my post I mentioned that formatting with the PSP creates 2 files. MEMSTICK.IND and MSTK_PRO.IND . The pro one just doesn't seem to be needed. Wierd thing is, I guess it must also be hidden-on, system-on, and archive bit off
