From the Max-Console forums:

Well for some time now I had a corrupt gameboot on my psp and needed a modchip to fix it, but now you don't. Start your psp and scroll over to the game application that you want to run. To skip the psp boot screen just hold the bright button of the psp before you start your game application. The bright screen button is located next to the sound, select, and start buttons. When you hold it the screen will go off and press x without releasing the screen button and then the psp will skip the gameboot and run into an application. Wait the correct time for the gameboot-usually 5 seconds- and then press the bright screen button again to turn the screen back on. You should now be in the application you have chosen and have skipped the gameboot.

Thanks to Milmirex for responding with this info in the half bricked psp thread

using that, you can then open up a gameboot flashing program and fix your corrupt gameboot :)
