Does this actually do anything useful? Like..... could you use it as a WiFi Webcam or anything cool like that?

I doubt it. But perhaps some future homebrew apps could utilize this cam in some neat way.

I can bet the resolution won't be the greatest. Maybe the plain, boring stantdard of 1.3 mega pixels (MP). What a complete joke.

I'd get one if it could be used for homebrew... kinda like a portable eyetoy

But still...I love the fact that the PSP can even make photos...:p

One of these facts must be wrong:
If it really had 1.3 Mega Pixels the maximum resolution would be 1280x1024 and not 640x480 because that would be 0.3 Mega Pixels

The camera could have had so much better resolution :(

I hope someone makes a homebrew for it soon, it should be possible, even if it involved reverse engineering it :p

It is kind of a dilemma because I am thinking that if it can be used for homebrew or cracked to be used on earlier firmwares then we'd better get one now because they might fix it in later versions but if we can't crack it or use it in homebrew then it's pretty much a waste of $50. I don't think there will be any good apps for it and I don't need/want a camera so I'll hold. The GPS is another story though.

Huh, I still don't get it: When you work it out
640x480=307200

Or what do you mean? What is 600000k? 600.000.000?

 Werent the PRX files for GPS and Cam found in a firmware dump of 2.71??? so that would mean it could be used on 2.71 SE im not 2 sure but o well .. Camera doesnt seem 2 interesting to me anywayz im interested in the gps but maybe by that time they'll be devhook v0.47 emulating Firmware v3.00 and i noe im goin a lil off topic but u think Dark_Alex would ever make a v3.00 SE that would be friggin amazing:D

It's really a shame that Play-Asia no longer are
shipping outside Asia.

$50 isn't that bad price, considering it has 1.3 megapixels and I'm almost certain that it can be used in homebrew one way or another sometime.

I will definately get Chotto Shot, but I'll probably wait for a while and see how it develops both here and maybe they'll make an upgraded, smaller version with higher resolution in 2007? It would be amazing to see this placed in PSP2 if it really comes out.

I also hope that it works for 2.71, but even if it doesn't, we'll hopefully be able to emulate 2.82 soon.

while arguably $50 is a good price for a 1.3 megapixel camera, I cannot see this being practical when you can purchase a better quality and much more compact camera for the same price or a little bit more. This fails to interest me at all.

if Dark_Alex gets a hold of it, it'll be cracked. I'll give him 3 weeks after he gets one ^.^

as far as i know there is no software in the actual camera hardware, so surely its uses are limitless.

how feasible would it be to replace the CCD with one from a camera phone or such...maybe fit a 3 mp

My phone has a better camera than this, and can record video for as long as I have free memory in the phone. AND it's a sony ericsson phone!

They'll have to do better than this!

this is utter turd

couldnt they spend the extra penny for the sensor to take decent sized photos. i was tempted to get this, as i dont have a digital camera, but that seems to be a ****ing joke. even the video recording is handicapped!? whya!?

that 15 sec time-out on the video capturing capability is lame, but I don't care, if I get a chance I'm prolly gonna get this... just cause it will turn the psp into the "camera" with the biggest display screen. And the camera just sitting on the top of the psp... it just looks cool, period.

Let camera homebrew begin!

Tonx_9
November 2nd, 2006, 20:30
im gonna get this just because we may be using it for homebrew. and btw i have the talkman game it came with a microphone, does anyone know if there is homebrew for that???

You're all crazy. 30fps widescreen isn't enough for you guys? I have to admit, the 15 sec limit is pretty lame, but still, you could record video clips and piece them together for a movie. I don't see a DS camera, do any of you?

Sk8.4.Life
November 3rd, 2006, 06:14
Well IndianCheese, it still doesn't account for the fact that this is a PSP were talking about here, we all know it can do a whole lot better than this. I mean come on... Whats with the 15 second limit on film? Thats something a friggin camera phone would do, but I would expect better from the PSP. It should write directly to the memory stick and allow unlimited recording until the stick is full. :( Sony was probably retarded and made it so it writes to the internal flash first or whatever and when thats full it stops recording, like on phones.
