Does anyone know if it is possible to read downloaded save game files off a cd and load them to your vmu? I dont have any cables to connect to my computer so this would be great.

yes it is. Thanks to the wonderous bluecrab. http://ljsdcdev.sunsite.dk/dl.php About halfway down that page, in the utilities section is VMU copy. The readme tells you how to load them.

Would it be possible (although I guess I'm not the first one who thinks this way) to include a HTML document in the same CD with links to these files?

Theorically, you'd only have to browse this files with any web browser and "download" them.

Why not just use bluecrabs program. Anyone who cant use HTML couldnt use your method, plus wouldnt you also have to put a browser on the disc? instead of just loading bluecrab's program and hitting a button, easy.

Oh and you have to make sure you give the correct file name to the files before loading them onto the vmu, meant to say that, not sure if it says it in the tutorial.

I have the save file I need but how the hell do I burn this?

First off make sure you have both the .vmi and the .vms files for the save, you need both as i recall.

Next open the .vmi file in notepad, look for a filename, you'll need this. For example in the sonic adventure 2 .vmi file you'll find "SONIC2___S01" Now rename both the .vms and the .vmi file to this name.

Now assuming you have downloaded the file and unzipped it, you should have a folder called vmucopy-0.1, within this folder create another called "vmufiles". inside this put the save game files from earlier (both vms and vmi). Now burn the contents of this folder into a cd. From now on we'll call this cd "save cd"

Now pop in your booloader cd (if you dont have one of these download dchacker, or similar, and simply burn onto a cd) From this then load your "save cd" once it has loaded it will bring up a list of all the save games on the cd. Simply highlight the save you wish to load and click it (cant remember which button does the job) to load it. Load both the .vms and .vmi files.

Reboot without any cd and go into the vmu menu on the dc to see if the save has been uploaded.

Friartuck, I had this problem, sounds like you're burning "track-at-once" in nero, if this is selected, simply select "disc-at-once" (if its disc-at-once already, try it track-at-once)

I downloaded mvc2 save file (mvc2us.VMI) from the net but I dont have a .vms file so what do I do. Can I still transfer to dreamcst

Nope. Where you downloaded the VMI, download the VMI again, but remove the VMI extention and place VMS as the extention instead.

TBH, VMU Backup Tool by speud it much better than BlueCrab's VMU Copy (VMU Copy only allows something like 17 saves per CD). VMU Backup Tool, you can hex edit files on your VMU, copy the VMU file to a PC (with a coders cable), PC->VMU (w/ a coders cable), and CD->VMU.

Get it here:
http://bswirl.kitsunet.org/vmutool/

No. Say the VMI link was at

http://www.yoursite.com/game.VMI

You would download ^ then then download

http://www.yoursite.com/game.VMS

VMU Backup Tool will allow you to burn the files to a CD and copy them to the VMU. Just make sure the VMI file is pointing to the right file. You can use VMI File Writer (http://www.consolevision.com/members/fackue/prj_vmiwriter.shtml).

EDIT: You don't need to hex anything - I was just telling you some of the cool features it has. ;)

LyingWake thanks for the heads up on the other VMU tool. I feel i should tell people about BCs creation, mainly cause i badgered him into making it back at the time. God bless the power of IRC.

i tried action replay but the cheat was shit

so I gave this a try
i extracted vmucopy-0.1.tar then made a folder inside put the files in and burned the contents of the folder. Popped in utopia after reindeer it loads to 85% and gets stuck.

Do i have to burn the folder vmucopy-0.1 or the contents or do i have to use a different boot disc.

I found dc hacker burnt it with nero 6606 at disc at once it didnt load on my dc swhen i load the image on my pc it gives me disc at once and disc at once/96 shall i select the later. I loaded the disc juggler image and it gives error and closes same with any other image.

Shall i use a different software? please help

ps i might try vmutool will it boot with utopia or can i make it self boot which ever is faster and easier
thanks

Boot VMUCopy by itself. You can use any selfbooting program (BootDreams, Selfboot).

Place the 1st_read.bin, an Ip.bin, and the VMU saves all in a folder by themselves together.

Make an image, or burn it directly with CDRecord.

Personally (not because I made it) I think BootDreams is more easy for newbies to use because 1) you don't need to worry if the 1st_read.bin is scrambled or unscrambled, 2) you don't need to worry about finding an Ip.bin if the package doesn't contain one, and 3) the CDRecord GUI is really easy to use.

Whether you choose another selfbooting program, that's your choice.

I've never tried VMUCopy. Again, I suggest VMU Backup Tool.

http://bswirl.kitsunet.org/vmutool/

Use BootDreams or Selfboot to make a selfbooting disc.

Sorry but I'm not even going to try and read what you had said.

http://bswirl.kitsunet.org/vmutool/vmutool_070_scrambled_bin.rar
http://consolevision.com/members/fackue/tools/projects/bootdreams_02.zip

Create a folder name vmutool.

Inside vmutool, put the 1st_read.bin from the vmutool_070_scrambled_bin.rar archive.

Create a folder named saves.

Place the VMU saves you downloaded in there.

Use BootDreams on vmutool.

I hope that works (i hope i explained it good enough, I a little wasited)

How do they not work? I download the save and zipped it up for you. You don't need to do anythin but place these saves on the disc.

I see. You have it named MVLVSCP2_SYS.VMS. Should of been name shorter. You had 12+3. If you removed "_SYS" you would of been fine. Anyway, the above should work for you.

Thanks for that, although one question.
Do you need bootloader specifically or will utopia work too?

Thanks yet again. I'm sorry to bump this ancient topic but it's one of the best leads I got from googling so I figured it was the best place to start.
