2.71 to 2.71se-b''

right here goes, I have beeen running my emulators and homebrew from reverse devhook for a while now and was

sick of having to use Hen C before I could get anything on my 2.71 to work so I looked around the net and

forums and pieced together a way of first downgrading and then flashing the custom firmwares to my PSP.
This would not have been possible without the generic downgrader and firmwares provided by dark alex, and a

forum thread I stumbled upon by the very knowledgeable dc-emu user "Kramer" so many thanks to everyone but

without the help of these 2 people I wouldnt have been able to wrie this guide.
Parts of this guide require the flashing of your PSP, is done entirely at your own risk, I offer this

information free of charge and with no warranty, it worked for me, but everywhere I looked for info I read

disclaimers of similar nature so be warned.

First off you will nee to upgrade to fw 271 (unless you are already on 1.5 if so skip to section 8 )

Download this....http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/829

1)Connect your PSP via the USB cable and put it in USB mode,

2)Copy all files from "updateflasher271-full/ms_root" to you memstick root folder ( the one with "PSP" in it)

3)Disconnect your PSP and open the photo viewer on it, you should see a folder called" HEN C" open this and

the screen will go blue followed by either a red or green screen, if it goes red it has failed and you should

try again, if it goes green you have been successful, if it stays blue....its crashed, just try again untill

you get the blue then green combo, after this your ready to run the downgrader.

4)Reconnect the PSP, set up USB mode again and open the folder "PSP/GAME"

5)Create a folder in PSP/GAME called "update" now download an EBOOT.pbp for fw 1.5 (from here...http://www.psphacks.net/files/PSPFirmwares/1.5/EBOOT.PBP) rename it "update.pbp" and save it

to the PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder you just created.(keep the EBOOT on your PC as we will be using it again later

on)

6)Exit USB mode, go to the GAME/MEMORY STICK folder on the XMB and run the update folder called "update ver

x.yz" in the same way as you would if you had an official update to install.

7)You should get a screen that warns you about the danger of flashing, if you agree press the corrresponding

key and begin downgrading, you should now have a healthy PSP with fw 1.5 Hurah, half way there.

8)Before we continue you should format your MS, so if you have anything you want to keep from it make a back

up on your PC you can alway return it at a later date.

9)Next we need to download this....http://dax.lan.st/271SE_A.RAR its only custom fw 2.71 SE-A but I found

this the safer way of doing the update!

10)Connect PSP as usual with USB, then open your new zip folder.Goto "MS_ROOT/PSP/GAME/" and copy "seupdmaker"

and "seupdmaker%" to the PSP/GAME folder of your MS.

11)now you will need a sony 2.71 EBOOT.pbp (http://www.psphacks.net/files/PSPFirmwares/2.71/EBOOT.PBP) and the

1.50 EBOOT.pbp that we already have from earlier(http://www.psphacks.net/files/PSPFirmwares/1.5/EBOOT.PBP), they will nee to be renamed from "EBOOT" to "271" and "150"

respectively then place them in the "seupdmaker" folder on your MS.

12)Exit USB and run the program from you GAME/MEMORY STICK folder on the XMB, it will create a "DATA.DXAR"

file in the seupdmaker directory, save it to your PC and you can delete the folders "seupdmaker" and

"seupdmaker%".

13)Reconnect USB and copy the folders "271seflasher" and "271seflasher%" to the PSP/GAME folder then put the

"DATA>DXAR" file into the "271seflasher" folder.

14)Now make sure you have a fully charged battery, if it is not charged enough the PSP will just not let you

do the flash, once again run the program from the XMB, it will give a brief overview of the dangers of

flashing and the ask you to press X to continue or R to exit back to the XMB, if your ready press X.

WARNING!!!! DURING THIS PROCESS DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR PSP OR REMOVE YOUR MEMORY STICK !!!! IT'S BAD!!!!

15)Right you should now see the PSP reboot itself and you'll be in fw 2.71 SE-A hurrah almost done!

16)Format your MS again, and away we go.

17)Reconnect PSP and download this file from Dark Alex...http://dax.lan.st/271_SEB.RAR

18)On the root of your MS create a folder called "GAME150"

19)Now go into SEB_UPDATE/PSP/GAME150/ and copy the folder "seb_update" to the PSP/GAME150 folder of your MS

20)Exit USB, run update through XMB

21)Reconnect USB and download this file....http://dax.lan.st/271_SEB2.RAR, extract the "seb2_update"file to

your PSP/GAME150" folder and then run this through the XMB

22)Once again, reconect your PSP to your pC, download your final file which is located

here...http://dax.lan.st/seb3.rar.

23)Extract the "seb3update" folder from SE3UPDATE/PSP/GAME150 directory of the zip file to your "GAME150"

folder.

24)Disconect USB and run udate from the XMB

25)Format your MS and place all old data you backed up earlier back on it, you should now be good to go with

fw 2.71 SE-B''

Now if you power off your PSP, hold down "R" and power it up, you will be brought to the Recovery menu, from here you can choose to skip the SCE logo, hide the corrupt icons for your homebrew, and also change the "GAME" directory to use the 1.5 kernel, instead of 2.71 as is default. This is reccommended as some homebrew is hardcoded to use 1.5.all you need to do is place your homebrew and emu's in the "GAME" folder and rename "GAME150" to "GAME271" and put your 2.71 stuff there.
Thanks to Cloudhunter for that little update.

If you are looking at running "irshell" from your new firmware please follow the link to this post by Jak66 it was most helpful.

scene, without everyones help, where would we be.

Might I also recommend the changing of the GAME folder to kernel 1.5 to be added?

what cloudy means is saying in the tutorial that if you change the option in the recovery menu, you can run all your 1.50 homebrew from the GAME folder, and all your game demos/2.71 homebrew from the GAME271 folder

Indeed. I find that is alot more easier to use, as 1.5 homebrew is sometimes hardcoded to the game folder.
