Hello!

Well, I'm back from the grave!... Over a year has passed without doing any development for the mighty Dreamcast!

So I'm posting this thread to let everybody knows that I've just released my new "VMU Backup CD"!

I guess you're asking "and what is it?"... in short, its the greatest VMU save collection ever made! (what a humble definition, uh? )

But its not just +3000 vmu saves for over 300 DC games, because everything is packed with this pretty neat VMU app that I´ve coded specially for this disc, so you can browse all the games, see all the saves and read the description of each save.

Screenshots: http://sourceforge.net/project/screenshots.php?group_id=99309

So, go and grab this selfboot CDI (made with Padus DiscJuggler 4.1) and have fun!

Download links: (12 Mb file)

My Web Site: http://www.bucanero.com.ar/ (http://www.bucanero.com.ar/descargas.php?id_categoria_descarga=1)

SourceForge: VMU Backup CD (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=99309&package_id=106534)

Btw, interface uses: UP & DOWN (digital pad/analog pad), L & R triggers, A (select), B (cancel) & Y (display credits)

please test this app and post your comments!

Well, I prefer to work and then to talk. Not viceversa. :D
Anyways, it was a bit more than a month of work, until I got it just like I wanted to be.

btw, not related to this topic, but fackue's DC help site its pretty good! I was looking for some info about scrambling bin's and other stuff and your site had the right answer.

Heheheh, you see, sometimes dreams come true! :P
To be honest, I made this app because I wanted to have all the DC saves available anytime, without having to connect to the Net and use a DC web browser to download a single vmu file.

Thank you very much - this is sooooo awesome!
DCEvo's images are awesome too! :) Feel free to post a link to my files in your site if you want. If you want to create a custom disc, my app is available for download at sourceforge, source code & unscrambled binaries.

Thanks a lot for posting it on the main page of DCEmu!

btw, can you check the links? because the sourceforge.net links at the main page are not working. I think that maybe after copy&pasting my post the links got broken somehow.

About the DC coder rank, just take your time, as long as I can post my work in the forums of this great site, everything is fine! :)

thanx again, c ya!

Your question reminds me that I forgot to tell something about this CD:

The disc contains all the saves available at dreamcast.planetweb.com (PlanetWeb's VMU archive), and it also contains all the saves available at www.dreamcastcn.com (Jeff.Ma's rare Jap saves and more)

So, in case you're wanting to add some save file from either of those sites, I´ve to tell you that those files are already in the CD. :)

But, in any case, the app is totally customizable, if anyone wants to add a game, just edit GAMELIST.TXT and add a line like this:

GAMEDIRNAME=Some Game Description

then, create a directory GAMEDIRNAME, and inside of it you'll have to create/edit SAVELIST.TXT and add as many lines as you need, in this format:

EXAMPLE.VMI=This is the description for this vmu save file.

That's all... you can add as many games and as many saves as you want.

I hope this info is usefull for everyone who wants to customize this app.

greetz!

Sorry to tell u but there is a lot of perfect saves missing (like cleared for Tennis 2K2 and Virtua Tennis 2, Le Mans 24H with all cars, Action Replay with 423 game codes, Propeller Arena, NEO CD Emu and more). U can once more update save collection with saves stored on www.blueswirl.fr.st (maybe Speud can make rar file with all saves stored on his site?), http://www.booyaka.com/games/vmu/saves.fcgi and get some mine perfect saves from ( http://members.lycos.co.uk/dreamplay/pavlik/pav_vmivms.rar [1.12mb])

This rar file cointains all codes for DC games - U can add this file to ARCDX Dir: http://members.lycos.co.uk/dreamplay/download/pav_codes.rar

ps. delete all bleem! files - its one big fake :D

btw. there was in past a greatest site with saves and only with it: www.dreamsaves.de / www.gamesaves.de - maybe some1 has sotred saves from this site or know BigRib - site webmaster...

Well, as far as I knew, Speud was always against using the saves on his site or even his VMU app to build a vmu disc. That´s one reason I decided to do my own Backup CD using the saves I got and with my own app.
I totally respect Speud's wish, and unless I get direct permission from him, all the saves from his site won't be on my VMU Backup CD.

btw, I'll be glad to add your saves, if I have your permission to do it.

About the bleem! files, I checked and you're right, they're all fakes, but to be honest I didn't check the saves, I trusted what I got from PlanetWeb site & from the vmu package that Jeff.Ma sent me. Probably many more saves are missclassified or just fakes. It would be a really hard work to clean all those saves. :(

many thanks for your comments,
c ya!

Yeah, add Pavlik's saves - it's worth it but you should credit him for it! He supported DCEvo's VMUTool project during the whole last year with updated saves and has done some incredible job on the CDX save : )

Hey Chris. I uploaded Code Breaker / Xploder save (my codes (not only) for Carrier EU, Super Robot Wars Alpha JAP, Doki Doki Idol Starseeker RMX JAP, Evil Twin PAL etc). Link is on first page on this topic.

btw. I get contact to BigRib (he is very hard to find). :) He deleted all saves one year ago :(

I still searching perfect save for Shnmue II EU. I have almost all (without last arcade game) :(

Hi there,

I've been reading these forums and other dc homebrew scene forums (dcemu, consolevision) for a couple of years now, but never tried to register up until now until after I read about Bucanero's VMU save cd. Thank you for making such a handy little tool for everyone to use! I was trying to put together a collection of vmu saves from different sites (gamefaqs, speud's site) to burn to a cd and use with VMU tool (since I can't really program anymore) for personal use. So i'm glad someone took the initiative to put it in such a convenient package.

Anyhow, other than praise, I had a question. Is it just me or is the font really hard to read? I can still navigate through the cd without much problem, but there's times when I can't even make out the description of the vmu save files due to the font used. Once again, maybe it's just me, so don't take it the wrong way. :D Just in case though, is there any way to change the font used in the menus? If not, is there any chance of this being an option in the future? Thanks.

Yes, I saw the bug about the hard-to-read font... :(

I developed the app using my VGA box and the font in the high-res screen looked great, so I didn't care about it.

After releasing it, I decided to burn the disc and try it on my TV. The font (due to the low-res) looked almost unreadable.

I´ll try to get a better/easier-to-read font file and maybe do a new release. But in any case, all the descriptions are inside a SAVELIST.TXT file inside the game directory, so right now you can always check the text on your computer and then just use the app to download the save to the VMU.

My apologies to everyone using a TV for this mistake.

Hey...I'm trying to brun this with nero 6, so I downloaded cdi2tao to convert the cdi file to a TAO Nero image file. When I load up the CDI in cdi2tao, however, it says it is an unsupported image type. I've tried using cdi2tao with other CDI files, and it works fine. What am I doing wrong here??

Use the newest version of CDI2Nero (0.9.9).

When you save the image, choose to save it as a TAO image.

Don't use Nero 6 for dc burning. Oggy (http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?url=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.aceboard. net%2F4752-534-7136-0-.htm&lp=fr_en) from DC-Reload have tested it and it doesn't work. Use only Nero 5.5 or DiskJuggler.

i don't know if CDI2Nero is really a good idea.

First tip, be sure to download the latest version of my VMU Backup CD. (v1.1.0)

Next tip, if you want to burn the CDI image with Nero 6, I suggest that you download a virtual drive software like Daemon Tools (freeware). Then you just load the .CDI file as a virtual drive, and you can use Nero 6 to make a CD-to-CD copy. (source: virtual drive, target: your burner)

Hope it helps... c ya

Here's a new version of my VMU Backup CD, released on 15/May/2005.

Change list:

Icon display added: Now you can see the VMU icon for each save.
More saves added: About 200 new VMU saves included.
No more miss-classified saves: Now you'll find only correct saves inside each game title.

You can download a DiscJuggler demo version from: http://www.padus.com/downloads/demo.php

You can use it to burn the .CDI DiscJuggler image without problems. Also you can use Daemon Tools (freeware virtual drive), load the .CDI file and then make a CD-to-CD copy with your preferred burning software.

This burning question is probably a bit off-topic... but, as before, best choice, use Daemon Tools as virtual drive, load the A120% image, and then use your preferred burning software to do a CD-to-CD copy.

Hi,

Just was wondering how all this work. I've downloaded the file onto my PC. Do I burn the extracted file to disc then put it in my Dreamcast? I've tried that but nothing happens.

What I ideally want is all Action Replay codes on my Action replay cartridge, would be nice to have updated saves too on my VMU.

Am I doing something wrong, as I guess you have to drag the file from the burned CD onto the VMU.

Thanks

Gav

Got it to work. Had to download the Discjuggler software.

The majority of Action Replay codes are for Jap or US. When I put the first set of codes on it does look like they relate to the UK ones but there are loads missing for eg. Headhunter and PSO. Has anyone got any Phantasy Star Online unlimited health or Action Replay codes?

Thanks

For some reason I can't get Code Breaker to work. I burned it to disc using discjuggler but when it loads in my Dreamcast it just keeps going to the settings screen.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
