Students inspired by handheld device

You know your product is a winner (or you're sponsoring the right people) when it is cited as the inspiration behind a piece of artwork, and this is the enviable position the Sony PSP handheld finds itself in this week. Apparently, six students studying at the Royal College of Art were so taken with the slick entertainment device that they've designed several pieces of 'concept furniture'. The 'pieces' take their inspiration from the poses adopted by those engrossed in the device, rather than the pleasing aesthetics of the machine itself, and the official website explains the symbolism of each creation.

The chairs and sculptures are in fact designed for those playing the PSP, and they will go on display from December at the Entrance Gallery of the Royal College of Art in Kensington. The exhibition will run from the 2nd until the 10th of December, and the artists have previously worked on some other interestingly technological pieces, if you fancy browsing the website.

Another coup for Sony it would seem - even if your average gamer isn't too interested in modern art. They probably do like chairs though. And sitting. In the dark.
