Capcom sees sluggish sales overall for the fiscal year but Raccoon City beats projections
Despite drawing the ire of game critics everywhere, Resident Evil: Raccoon City managed to tally a total of 1.7 million units sold. Capcom said that the latest Resident Evil was the top seller of the year, beating out Street Fighter X Tekken by around 300,000 units.
The news comes as the Japanese publisher reported a sales drop of around 16 percent to 86.02 billion yen ($1.02 billion / 824 million euros)for the fiscal year ended on March 31. Operating income also took a hit, sinking to $154.1 million, with net income declined 13.2 percent year-over-year to 6.72 billion yen ($84.06 million / 64.4 million euros).
Capcom remains upbeat about the future, now that Resident Evil 6 is in development. The highly anticipated title is expected to bolster the company up to $1.31 billion in sales for the year ending March 31, 2013. Earnings are projected to hit $122.6 million in that same period.
