Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says E3 remains as important as ever, despite fresh criticism over its relevancy from some corners of the industry.
Event organisers the ESA was forced to defend E3 last month (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/esa-blasts-back-at-the-e3-critics/096691)following criticism of its continued focus on the struggling traditional boxed games market. The trade body pointed to the appearance of Zynga and GREE as proof that the show is as relevant as it has ever been.
And now Guillemot has backed the annual showcase, telling MCV that the expo is important in judging critical, consumer and trade reaction. And that Ubisoft is planning to reveal some major new titles at its press conference tomorrow.
"E3 is really a time where we get reactions from lots of people. And unveil some things to generate hype," he said.
"It is big event for us because a lot of people are logging in to find out what¹s going on in the industry and find out what's new.
"It is going to be a very strong E3. Which will be nice. We are doing products on many platforms, including mobile, tablet and also free-to-play games for PC, as well as what we expect to come this year, which is Wii U. It should be good if the reactions are as we expect."
