I have a 1.5 PSP and I want to play MGS: PO and Vice City Stories and still be able to use my various homebrew and emulators. I searched around but I couldn't find a definitive answer.

you have the nerve to call a respected DCemu member an idiot, then think you can get homebrew on a PSP with firmware 3.01...i think we all know who the real idiot is. Devhook 0.51 can only be used on firmware 1.50, 2.71 (Using HenD) and 2.71 SE (which is both 1.50 and 2.71)

Here is link to thread with DevHook 0.51 for 1.50 PSPs(1.50 kernal on 2.71 SE) (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=45371)
Here is link to download page for DevHook 0.51 for 2.71 PSPs(2.71 kernal on 2.71 SE) (http://dl.qj.net/Devhook-0.51-launcher-for-2.71-HEN-D-PSP-Homebrew-Applications/pg/12/fid/11611/catid/151)
Here is link to Devhook Firmware Installer (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=45571)

3.01 cannot run any hacks. Dev Hook is only for 1.5, 2.71, and 2.71 SE.

No he said he FOUND a guide on how to run 51 on 3.01FW and it didn't work for him.

Stumper where'd you find this guide?

Sounds like people are getting confused. They think that devhook .51 runs on FW3.01 when it only emulates it.

runs on, emulates it... whats the difference! XD

devhook isnt emulating anything

it redirects somehow the flashloader to memstick

there should be a rule that every one with a firmware related question must post his actual firmware version and maybe the devhook version

Never will I help you again.

To the person who said runs on , emulates what's the difference?
DevHook does emulate 3.xx FW, as in it makes your PSP believe it has the firmware installed. But DevHook also RUNS on 1.5 (or 2.71SE) because it needs the slacker security from these firmwares to be able to do this.

BTW thanks for the back-up jak66

not really dejkirkby

devhook tricks the flashloader into loading the firmware from memstick
the psp does not think its a 3.0x at that moment
when you loaded devhook your psp it is a 3.0x until you shut down

a emulator runs a 1:1 copy of the hardware inside a virtual machine

your psp doesnt need be emulated by devhook cuz its the actual device
you want to run a psp programm (fw3.0x via devhook) on a psp
just do it
but if you want to run a gameboy fw on a psp you need a emulator like gPSP

I stand corrected, but the end effect is the same.
The bottom line is that DevHook still needs to be run on 1.5 or 2.71SE Firmware.

this is getting cofusing. devhook is for hoebrew compatable fws only and if you are on 3.01 then whats the point as it is made to EMULATE higher fws than you are on, not put you back to 1.5 or anything. to theread starter; yes use devhook .51. go to dl.qj.net or psphacks.com and you can find loads of instructions /guides and instalers (devhook ultimate installer works well.)

devhook does not emulate fw's
it runs them from memstick instead of the flashrom

and you can run any fw you like
for example if you are on 2.71 you can use HEN D to activate homebrew and then load devhook to load 1.5 firmware to run maybe dgen or gpsp or any other brew

So what does it do then.

Of course it Emulates Higher firmwares.

And for the people that think they can run devhook on a 3.01 PSP.Read Carefully the next 8 words.

Devhook only runs on 1.5 and 2.71 PSP'S

The reason it only runs on those two fimewares is because we have Kernel access. And if your wondering why they have Kernel and you dont is because these firmwares were lacked in security and it gives coders to run their own code on the PSP.

The reason higher firmwares dont have Kernel is because of the high amounts of security implanted in the firmware

Yes, but I think we are getting into semantics now, do you think that newbies are going to understand the exact processes involved, or a simpler concept of "emulation" of a higher firmware. Especially as many don't even seem to know what firmware they have!

maybe youre right but there are differences

if you think of the psp as a pc and the firmware is like windows
i personally would really want to know which windows im running
ok the psp is a gaming device but if you want homebrew
which means running pc like software on psp
then you have to find out what this little thing is about
this means reading atleast the manual that came with the psp
or go to a forum like this and ask "stupid" questions
the people here are friendly and willing to help everyone
you just have to ask the right way
