PSP Dark_AleX releases 3.02 OE-B- Run ANY PSX Game at Full Speed on your PSP

Dark_AleX has just posted the news about his new revision to the 3.02 OE which lets you run any PSX game on the official emulator by converting a game using the included tool.

Read more info in the readme.


This is the update from OE-A to OE-B.

Place the folder OEB_UPDATE inside /PSP/GAME150 and run it.

The update will take a very little time, since it only updates the files needed.

The new addition of this update is the ability of playing your own psx games, using the provided
tool (popstation) to convert them.

Although, a feature that was in OE-A and i forgot to comment:

You can use plugins in psx games. Just create a file called pops.txt inside seplugins, with the
path of your modules.

Note:Dark_AleX says PAL games can have graphical glitches and screen misplacement, just so you know. I bet this will be fixed later on, though.

Also you must have 3.02OE-A (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/psp-3-02-oe-released-custom-firmware-for-psp-released-46711.html) to update to 3.02OE-B. So if you havent already you must do so to run 3.02OE-B.

All users that are running on a firmware, lets say the official 3.0 firmware you can not update to this custom firmware.

Warning: Flash always risked bricking your psp, so please read the instructions and make sure you have all the nessesary files in the correct places.

THere's good news and there's bad news.

The good news is that you can't brick your PSP. ^_^
The bad news is that you can't brick it because you can't run any of these programs. You need to be able to downgrade to 1.50 to install 3.02OE. You're on an official firmware and on too high of a mobo.

I'm sorry to say, but for now, no, you can't run this.

Just use PBP Extractor to get them from an original PSX game downloaded from PS3 Shop.

You should already have Hot Shots 2 Golf, because popstation doesn't work without it :) So, you can use that, to get your pics/icons size :)

The PSP is SCREAMING out for a quality, high compatibility and high speed MAME emulator similar to the quality of NJ's work.

I know we have the CPS1 and 2 EMUs which show just how damn well even modern arcade classics can run, but why can't we see a MAME emu with high end compatibility and SPEED for the older stuff? The MAME EMUs to date have been slow with poor compatibility and unfriendly user interfaces and lacking in features when many of those old roms required hardly any processing power at all in comparison to much of the full screen, 100% speed emulations we already have for the PSP!!!

1942, Pac Man, Space Invaders, Wonderboy in Monsterland, Double Dragon, Vendetta, Tiger Heli, Kung Fu Master, Gauntlet, Operation Wolf, Track and Field, Mat Mania, Defender, Time Pilot, Arkanoid, City Connection, Gun Smoke, Choplifter & Outrun all at full speed on the PSP?

Yes it's easy to revert back. Risk is minimal. Just follow the steps...

I got the cygwin1.dll in C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 folder and I got the popstation folder with all the necessary files in it into the ROOT of my C Drive.

Everytime I open the popstation.exe file, it just closes again and doesn't do anything.

Ok, to avoid having to open the command prompt every time, I created a nice little batch file for popstation. Here's how to do it (very simple):

1. Open notepad, write this text (you can also put pic1.png and icon0.png there if you want):
popstation.exe image.iso
2. Save the file as "pops.bat" (WITH quotes) to the folder where your popstation.exe is
3. Get cygwin1.dll, the hot shots golf EBOOT and rename it to base.pbp, and the Hot Shots Golf keys.bin
4. Put your PSX ISO to the folder and rename it to image.iso
5. Doubleclick pops.bat and wait a while and your EBOOT is generated

I converted my original Soul Blade CD and this is what found

Editing the ICON0.PNG, PIC0.PNG, PIC1.PNG worked without problems.

I do have a question:
What is the transparent color used in? PIC0.PNG
I keep getting a solid white.

The into video looks great
The intro video sound is poor.
There is a high pitched whine in the background.
Anyone have any ideas?

In game graphics look great.
However, the game does not run at full speed.
Although it plays very smooth there is a noticeable slow down.

Yeah, there are issues with the PAL versions of the games, just get NTSC versions from your local importer if they have any knocking about.

Couple of questions to those in the know :)

I have corrupt icons again! I have tried SeiPSPTool but it comes up with folders not found :(

Where can hot shots golf be found if you don't have a PS3? No doubt it will crop up everywhere within the next 24 hours or so but I am dying to try out THPS2.

All seem very good so far, although for some reason I have to have a GAME folder aswell as GAME150 and GAME271. GAME302 is for single eboots I take it so I don't have one, as yet. If I didn't have a GAME folder the PSP said there was no games on the card. I formatted it (after copying everything off) with no luck, made the GAME folder and stuck the snes emu in there and everything was there (7 odd emus and PSPR), moved snes back to GAME150 and left the GAME there too and snes was showing up along with everything else.

Are there any benifits of having the single eboots as too the 2 folders, one with the %?

When i'm fully up and running i'll happily send over £10er or so to DA :)

Tested and to my amazement it works .... with sound! Now I understand why Sony didn't release all the games of PSone like Tekken 2 instead of 3... I tested Tekken 3 but it does not continue to load... I think the official PSX emu has alot of incompatibility problems.

Ok. I have read some of the help replies but none of them seem to work for me. I did the ''pops.bat'' thing. I tried putting the CYGWIN1.dll into the system32 folder but it doesnt work. I tried using the command promt like the other guy said

that didnt work either. When I got the CYGWIN1.dll file it talked about installing it but if thats a step then i haven't done it yet....cause i dont know how. Please anyone. I'm on firmware 1.5 US, and am trying to upgrade to the 3.02 OE-A right now, unfortunatly the DXAR Update Maker seems to be giving me issues.

Reading, and packing 1.5 takes about 3mins, but then it sits on 3.02 JP for like 20 mins....what should I do?

I haven't touched my PSP in a year or so now, but now I have reason to!

I'm on firmware 1.5 US, and am trying to upgrade to the 3.02 OE-A right now, unfortunatly the DXAR Update Maker seems to be giving me issues.

Reading, and packing 1.5 takes about 3mins, but then it sits on 3.02 JP for like 20 mins....what should I do?

It doesn't exist. The only other system32 folder on my comp is
Windows/lastgood/system32

Oh and when I try to create a new folder called System32 in the WINDOWS folder it asks me if I want to overwrite the one that does exist, if that makes any sense? But I honestly don't see a folder named SYSTEM32 directly in the WINDOWS folder.

make a text document in the same folder as popstation

You have to run the popstation.exe using command prompt.

i put my ff tactics eboot in a folder called FINALFANTASYTACTICS and its working just fine.

Arrrrrrrgh, Driver 2 PAL refuses to work in ISO, in BIN it gets to the Playstation logo and freezes, using a PAL to NTSC patch doesn't help either. Same for Final Fantasy 9.

Am I just better off legally obtaining some original American discs and using those?

Hey, I got everything i needed, following along with the readme. However I'm having trouble with converting the image to an eboot. I've tried researching, but haven't found any troubleshooting stuff on it.

I got hot shots golf's eboot renamed to BASE.PBP and i got the KEYS.BIN file. Then I put my FFT iso file into the same folder as popstation and renamed that to image.iso. I'm stuck for what to do now...

I tried opening a txt file and typing in 'popstation.exe image.iso' without quotes, and saving the file as pops.bat, and then running the .bat file. I waited awhile and nothing still happened.

Any help please?

-get this dll file from internet and put it in windows/system 32

For the multi disk questions, in FF7, your save is in the XMB menu. Before the game switches to the next disc, you'll be asked to save, do so. Turn off the psp, copy over disc 2, reload your game and it should be fine. I remember having to do this since I had a backup and was using a Gold Finger to play it and this method worked fine.

For those having those Black screen errors, extract your games in Bin format and not ISO. I found that fixed all my problems. Before spending time on transfering the game to your psp, try out a psx emulator such as ePsxe on your computer and load up the ISO. If you get a black screen, you know you have a bad dump.

The ICON0.PNG and PIC1.PNG files are easy to make.
PIC0.PNG is a pain... anyway to disable this?

For any 1.5 user, I too was a bit, 'don't really know' but trust me, this is so much better in so many way. Even without this psx support it is still better. A 1.5 psp with the brains of a 3.02. Have a dabble on gpsp then go back and load up GTAVCS. Takes no more than 2 mins to upgrade to A, and about 5 seconds to B.

So would it be possible to make eboots like this that include an emulator for SNES roms and other systems? This way, we could sort it into different folders and then just launch any game from the XMB. I think that would be a sweet idea but I guess it would just be up to the coder of the emulator or if someone else wants to compile the emulator so it could be run for one game from the XMB just like it would appear on the normal system rather than going to a menu first.

Finally Got My FF7 problem fixed. Turns out all i needed to do was to name the folder of the game on my memory stick - e.g. folder name "Final Fantasy VII"

Final fantasy VII NTSC CD 1 works just fine, but i wonder, due to fact that the game has 3 cds and you have to put them all on diferent folders like if they were diferents games, will the savefile of the first cd work with cd 2?
or maybe the emu will see them as diferent savefiles for diferents games?

In other words sony's compression method could eventually be used for other emulators. just a thought from someone who actually reads the god damned readmes.. you know they put them there for a reason.

POPSTATION FOLDER
put the hot shots eboot in there as base.pbp
the key.bin also goes in there
Your iso, bin, img whatever, name that image.***

In notepad tpye in "popstation.exe image.***"
no quotes

save it as pops.bat and put it in the popstation folder

double click pops
and youre done

When you download it from the PS3 Store, there should only be a keys.bin, eboot.pbp and sometimes a document.dat (Depends on the game). If you downloaded it illegally, don't ask for help here.
