PopStation Icon and Picture thread

Hello all lucky 3.02 OE-B user :)

Thanks to the great Dark_Alex we can now play almost all PS1 games on our PSP. To let them also look fine in the XMB menu we have to put our own pictures in there before converting them to a EBOOT.PBP.

I thought maybe we could open a thread here and share our icons and background pictures here.

Here are some pictures I created for my Dragon Warrior VII and Strider Hiruy 2. I am not very skilled with programs like Gimp or Photoshop and just made them for personal use, but maybe some of you will like them ;)

Note: I don't want any text information on my pictures, to avoid having them from Hot Shots 2 appearing in the XMB create a 310x180 PIC0.PNG that is full transparent.

No worries. They're generally pretty easy. Not like I'm creating the artwork myself.

The Wu-Tang one was a bit of a chore though. Not much good imagery around for that one.

I've been working on a lot of these, so I'm going to post what I've already completed...I'm making custom ones for each of my games (Although I'm more than likely going to 'borrow' a few of these rather nicely done ones as well for some of the games I haven't quite gotten to yet ;)

My girlfriend's sister is over today so since they are speaking to each other in Korean all the time I'm confined to doing this...

I probably won't be doing many past today. I'll do some more animated ones and then put some packs (backgrounds, animated icons, music) together I think. So if anyone has any requests better to get them in now than later if I'm gonna be on them.

By the way, if I'm doing ones that are already done its cause I just like doing them my way and its quicker for me to just do my own than look for ones other people did (go figure).

Here's one I made for Medal of Honor. By the way, I ripped this game from the PAL disc and the graphics were pretty messed up, but the PAL to NTSC conversion tools fixed them completely. Just in case anyone else had that problem.

Nice ones there tunglashor. Remember though, you can use transparency on them. I think the Medal of Honor would look better making the black transparent.

Here's one for Spider-Man. Anyone know if the NTSC version of this game works properly? I have the PAL version and the draw distance is terrible, the buildings are mostly invisible! Everything else about it is perfect.

In my experience all PAL games have problems and all NTSC games have worked perfectly.

I'd say I'd give Spiderman NTSC the benefit of the doubt without knowing for sure. BTW though, while many have had good experience with PAL->NTSC converter, I've not had any luck yet.

PSPBrew takes a long time opening the eboots as they're huge files, that's why it goes blank and unresponsive - give it time and it should open it OK, depending on how much RAM you have I guess. I don't know of any other apps that will do it.

In the Layer Properties, set the Opacity to a value less than 100% (0% = completely transparent, 100% = no transparency).

To save an image as a .png, choose Save As and in the file dialog, change the Format to PNG.

you make a file called " pic0 " , if you use paint to text it will come up as a white background...if you use photoshop, you can make it transparent by going into the layer properties and changing it....i dont know how to say it to a .png tho

To make a png in Photoshop go File -> Save for Web.

In the dropdown choose either PNG-8 or PNG-24. PNG-8 will give you a smaller filesize but has less colours so may not look as good. PNG-24 allows more colours and transparency (including partial transparency, which is why this format is so great) but will be larger file size. Be careful with this as the PBP will only allow 300kb max filesize with all three combined images, so don't be using PNG-24 unless you have to and you can keep the size down.

^its a free download, and you cant buy it because it wasnt released in stores because of violence extremety. only available online. if you dont believe me, try and find a disk copy (not counting a disk that had the file burned to it) IT IS LEGAL TO HAVE THIS GAME DOWNLOADED!!!! DONT FLAME ME FOR POSTING THIS. IM GOING TO STOP THE CAPS NOW. :)

EDIT: I put everything back for those of you who were interested in it. I would show a graphical example of a lot of my works, but there are over 141 games I've done :P

Also, I kinda screwed up on a few, and set a transparancy on a few of the earlier PIC1.png files...(you'll be able to tell on which ones when you preview it on PSX2PSP) simply open up that file (In GIMP for example) add a layer to the bottom of it, fill it with black, and it -should- look normal. Sorry about that. Also, some of these I'm really proud of how they turned out...others are kinda 'meh' as I wasn't able to find pictures I was happy with. And Thunder Force V, the PIC1.png is not mine that I found, but from this thread (Page one I believe)...Same with Thrill Kill

Your icons are great....you and tunglashor do great work.....do you mind me asking how you get that wave on your icon? Highly appreciated......im a big fan of your guys work and check frequency...
