Read me!
TA-082 downgrader by Dark_AleX/Mathieulh/Harleyg

This is an application to downgrade a ta-082 unit running 2.71 firmware and HEN-D
to 1.50, although teoretically can downgrade to any version, but only 1.50 has been tested.

The application, at the moment of writing this readme was tested in 5 psp's, with 5 success.
As always, this kind of application have risks, this one in concrete write to idstorage area
of nand.

The authors don't get responsabilized of any damage that may happen by the use of this
unlicensed software. You are on your own when doing it.

The method of ta-082 downgrade is based on research on hardware-downgraded ta-082 selled in ebay.
We realized that the process was not very complex, and easy to imitate by software.

READ CAREFULLY THE INSTRUCTIONS AND DON'T SKIP ANY STEP

Instructions
------------

- Copy the UPDATE and idstoragechange folders into /PSP/GAME/
- Get the official sony 1.50 eboot and put it in the /PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder with the name of
UPDATE.PBP

- Run HEN-D if you are not already running it.

- Execute the idstoragechange. It needs 75% battery.
It will change some keyes of your idstorage needed to downgrade the ta-082.

- The program will exit to the XMB. Now execute the generic downgrade, which will show in the xmb
as "Update X.YX" in the psp language.

- The generic downgrader will also need 75% battery. IT will downgrade your psp to 1.50.

- At the end, it will ask you to press X to restart the psp. Do it.

- If all went fine, you'll receive a blue screen telling you to press O. Do it, and reenter your settings.
Welcome to 1.50.

- If things didn't go that fine, you'll have a non-functional psp, aka brick.
You accepted that risk, remember.

Warning: downdating always risks "bricking" your psp. So we advise that you use extreme caution.

Okay, so here's what i've understood as far as upgrading to 3.02 OE-B on TA-082's:

1. Downgrade using D_A's TA-082 Downgrader

2. Upgrade using D_A's 3.02 OE-A Firmware

3. Upgrade to 3.02 OE-B using the OE-B update

Okay, so then I should be running 3.02 OE-B in all it's glory. My question is though, that many people are confirming that if you use the recovery option in 3.02 OE-B (R trigger on boot) that it will brick your PSP because of the whole v1.5 UPDATE EBOOT.PBP incompatibility. What I am wonering is, can I simply replace the v1.5 UPDATE EBOOT.PBP file in the recovery folder with the v2.71 UPDATE EBOOT.PBP and then when I use the recovery option, it will simply install v2.71 instead?

If that is possible, then TA-082 users will have a perfect setup, and a perfect exit if they wish to go back to v2.71. :D

Btw i wanted to say, since it was not specified in the readme, that there is no danger in installing 3.02 OE or 2.71 SE once downgraded.

For those 2.80 users, don't desesperate, the downgrader for it will be released at its time.

I THINK he means that once you've updated to 3.02 OE there's no way to go back, because the recovery mode may not work. There's been no confirmation one way or the other about this ...

Because official SCE updaters don't work in that 1.50 kernel environment (because they need some vsh files
not available), i've included with this package a flasher that lets to flash any official update from
1.50-2.71 to your psp.
To use it, copy the files inside inside "flasher for recovery/RECOVERY" in /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/
and the official SCE updater renamed as UPDATE.PBP in the same directory, and run the program
through the recovery option.

TA-082 cant read any official update eboot from 1.5-2.5, thats why this was never possible in the past, it can read 2.71, recovery to that and use hen-d again

This is really, really awesome! TA-082 users are damn lucky! Welcome to the real PSP world (as cal360 said. :p) !

Dark_AleX and his team never stop to amaze me. This has been a fantastic year, and even month. I really look forward to what the next year brings to us. I don't know what I would have done with my PSP now, if it hadn't been for those heroic coders who make it better every day.

December 28th, 2006, 14:32
Tested and worked fine on two PSP's..

One white 2.71 TA-082 and one black 2.71 TA-082...

Cutting a long story short, I downgraded both of them to 1.5 successfully after going through the readme instructions.

I then got the 3.02 OE-A installer package for 1.5 and it copied over all the necessary files. I then ran the install from the xmb on both psps and volla we have two ta-082's on 3.02 OE-A...updated them both to OE-B...

Only thing I did was in the recovery folder I replaced the update.pbp with a 2.71 eboot to revert back to.

Thank you Dark Alex, Mathieulh and Harlyg

burrito
December 28th, 2006, 14:36
Will recovery mode only work on my psp if I change the update.pbp to a 2.71 eboot named update.pbp?

FrostyTheSnowman
December 28th, 2006, 14:38
You can put any eboot named "update" in the recovery folder. 2.71 included.

Awesome, thanks for clarifying that.

By the way, we can add another success to the list, I was able to downgrade my TA-082 to v1.5 and then upgrade to v3.02 OE-B with ease.

PSP Information:

Model - TA-082 (IC1003)
Original Factory Firmware - v2.6 (Upgraded to v2.71)
Current Firmware - v3.02 OE-B, running flawlessly

December 28th, 2006, 14:43
I have a theory for 2.8 PSPs. A TA-082 PSP cannot downdate to firmware versions below 2.5. I think you can use the 2.8 downgrader, replacing the 1.5 files with 2.71, and then use the TA-082 downgrader.

I'll report back with a progress report :D (My battery is at 76%...I'm going to wait until it gets fully

Only thing I did was in the recovery folder I replaced the update.pbp with a 2.71 eboot to revert back to.
And you did that because TA-082 MOBO's can't run the 1.50 update right?

I am under the impression that you can't use recovery mode to revert back to 1.50. Is this correct?

Downgraded a TA-082 2.71 PSP for a co-worker. Took me awhile to understand HEN-D since I never had to use it (my PSP is 1.50 > 3.02OE-B). So after downgrading his TA-082 PSP to 1.50, I upgraded it to 3.02OE-A and then to 3.02OE-B.

He's going to have a kick out of his new PSP.

Just downgraded my TA-082 no problems - just a few nervous moments thinking 'Is it going to brick ....?'
All good tho. Big THX to Dark Alex and all......

A TA-082 downgrader is finally here? That's all good then. Next time I feel insane and want to grab another PSP from the store, I wouldn't have to ask for one that's got a letter codes H (with version 2.50 firmware) or I (2.60) on the box. Codes H and I don't have the TA-082 motherboards.

Worked like a charm. I am now TA-082 and fw 3.02 OE-B equiped.

Install with confindence, just Follow ALL of the steps and try it on your own PSP before you do it to your buddies.

Good luck.

Just wondering if the guru's out there might be able to help.

I've upgraded my 1.5 to 3.02 OE-B with no problems and my mate wants me to upgrade his.

Problem we have is the one he's got was a replacement from Sony so there is no box to find out if he's got a TA-082 motherboard or not.

Question is, as he doesn't have the box is there another way to tell what motherboard it has?

Also does this downgrader only work with TA-082 motherboards, or can it be used like a general 2.71 downgrader for non Ta-082's?

Hope that makes sense, any help grately appreciated.

The way to check for a TA-082 is to open the UMD drive, hold the PSP with the screen facing away from you. Yuo should be able to see a bit of the green motherboard inside the UMD Drive. If there is writing saying "IC1003" you have a TA-082. If not, you are good to go to use the non Ta-082 downgrader, as long as your firmware is 2.80 or under.

So I'm guessing that between the 2 steps requiring 75% battery, the psp will need to be recharged?

- Get the official sony 1.50 eboot and put it in the /PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder with the name of
UPDATE.PBP

so do i put the replace the eboot inside the update folder or do i rename the eboot to "update.pbp"?

- The program will exit to the XMB. Now execute the generic downgrade, which will show in the xmb
as "Update X.YX" in the psp language.

HELP mines said update x.yz not x.yx

I would love very much to do this, but I just cant seem to figure some things out.. Such as how to simply run HEN D, or to install it for that matter, I've downloaded everything, winrar and all, I'm just really confused. This is why I bought a PSP, my NES stopped working (RIP) and I just want to play my old games again.

Is that so much to ask?

Any help would be welcomed and appreciated.

Ok, so now I'm worried.
I followed all the steps word for word.

1) Put everything in the necessary folders on my PSP
2) Ran HenD
3) Double checked the System Settings -> System Information -> System Software (said "2.71 HEND")
4) Went to Game -> Memory Stick and ran "TA082 IdStorage Change"
5) Hit "X" once it launched and verified I really wanted to do this.
6) It finished, went back to XMB
7) Went to Games -> Memory Stick and then ran "PSP Update ver 1.50"

It then tells me:
"The system software of your PSP system is version 2.71. There is no need to update."

What the heck did i do wrong?!
I'm now scared to shut my PSP down.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, well I finally got the guts to reboot, and my PSP seems to be working fine.

I'm still not certain why my PSP didn't respond as expected. Once again, and ideas or hypotheses would be much appreciated.

By the way, here's the numbers on the inside of the UMB bay:

Left: IC6001
Right: IC1003

...therefore it is, in fact, a TA-082

************Edit************

Ok, so the reason this failed the first time, and looked like it did, was due to user error.

I'd copied the 1.50 firmware over twice to the UPDATE folder. Once as UPDATE.PBP and once as EBOOT.PBP
Yeah, I know. I deserved to brick my PSP.
Luckily, it DIDN'T brick...

So, on second attempt with the correct files in the correct places:
1) I re-ran idstoragechange and it merely told me something along the lines of "You already ran me, you dolt. The changes I originally made are still on your PSP... so stop running me!"
2) I hit X, it reloaded me back into XMB
3) I held my breath and ran "PSP Update ver X.YZ"
4) Everything went as previously stated and I now am running a TA-082 on FW 1.50.

All's well!

I have just got a silver Jap PSP from success-HK which has 1.5 firmware on it. I looked inside the UMD draw and on the board it has the IC1003 which I believe means it is a TA-082 board.

Does this mean I don't need to do any firmware upgrades, or does it mean I can't.

Any helpful instructions on how to get the best out of this would really be appreciated.

Regards
Ricky

You don't need to downgrade :) But you can upgrade to a custom firmware :)
