Hi all,

i 've bought a 4gb sone magic gate me stick pro duo, msx-m4gn model. I have recurrent problems reading / writing frm this device. problems like:

* Path not found.
* Path too large.
* Delayed writing error.

apart from this i have corrupted data, most likely when writing files beyond 1,5 - 2 gb treshold. It doesn't even allow me to create new folders making them corrupted data aswell.

This happens wether writing with a connection directly hooking up from the psp's mini usb and from an external reader, formatting and re-formatting from psp's menu and also from my computer.

My computer's running Win Xp Btw.

i've come to the retailer and changed it 3 times!!!
i'm trying the third mem stick right now LOL.

So what are your thoughts? what's your experience with 4gb mem sticks? i have 1 and 2 gb ones and they work like a charm but this one's no joy.

I updated to 3.02 OEB FW btw so could this be the problem? Don't think so but...

Thanks in advance, cheerz have a nice end of the year and a good beggining too.

I think it might be the problem being 2 gb or 1.5 in fact but showing a size of 3878 mb avaiable.

I would like to know how the people is doing with their 4 gb cards, working ok, how fast the acces is, this one's seems to be quite slower then 2 gb or smaller

Go to video And press triangle. It will then come up with information select information and then it will tell you information about your memory card you want to look at the last thing it tells you.If it says unknown it is a fake

user mem = 3878 mb
free space = 2081 mb
magicGate = unknown

what's that mean?

bte i'm now using up to 1800-1900 mb less than 2 gig, it seems the real capacity and works fine.

Wait im confused did you solve it? cause i would say to try to switch to 3.02 kernel envirment since 1.5 doesnt support 4 gig

That's not true 1.5 doesn't support above 4gig anything 4gig and below works fine anything above 4 gig on 1.5 doesn't =/

Well the amount of space you said you had available is right on. Cause I have that same amount available on my 4GB when I format. I bought a 4GB for a friend on Ebay and it was most likley a fake I got it for like 87 bucks. But I had none of the problems you say your having. It was a ''Sandisk''.

I've been doing some tests,

all of my 3 x 2gb cards are fake, suposed to be sony.
Strangely they work fine so far (!!!).

my 2 x 1gb cards show as (1 sony, 1 sandisk) "compatible" wich means they are true, also the 32 mb card wich comes bundled with the system.

So we're surrounded by this shit!! Beware!.

PS.: I guess the best way ti guide is by looking at the ones that work ok, that's it.

Allow me to add to this. ;)

I have bought a few fake ass sony 4GB MS PRO DUO, from ebay, i wont mention the sellers. :o

I have had lots of trouble getting reliable free space, and performance,. under 3 gig usage, Freezes, Corrupted Data.

I suppose i could have suspected this with the cheapo price, , ( all around £25-30 delivered )

I have also purchased (for myself), a (£90) 2GB SanDisk Ultra II, and a (£80) 4GB Sony PRO DUO. Both from USA, with vouchers discounts, from reputable stores.

These MS present no problems,

I bought these as soon as they were released, to access the potential of the PSP, Video , Music and Backup's.

With all my hands on experience of PSP/Homebrew/Flashing a Bad MS is the last thing you want.

Its should be a Drag n Drop breeze, not this tedious chore of waiting for files to transfer, then they dont work, or appear at all. WTF??

If it reads MAGICGATE : 'UNKNOWN' in the Memory card information
(select the memory stick icon, press Triangle, then X for Information)

YELL FAKE!!! :eek: :eek: :eek:
