Microsoft has scrapped its free-to-play flight simulation as well as its Kinect title Project Columbia.
"Microsoft Studios is always evaluating its portfolio of products to determine what is best for gamers, families and the company, and this decision was the result of the natural ebb and flow of our portfolio management,” said Microsoft in an official statement.
“Many factors were considered in the difficult decision to stop development on Microsoft Flight and Project Columbia, but we feel it will help us better align with our long-term goals and development plans.”
Microsoft Flight is a free-to-play successor to the old Microsoft Flight Simulator series. The game was supported with numerous post-release DLC packs, including the recentAlaskan Wilderness and Hawaiian Adventure packs.
Project Columbia was touted to be a Kinect-based title to engage young players by pairing books with interactive music and illustrations.
Both games were being developed in Microsoft's Vancouver studio, and although the studio will remain active, 35 jobs have been cut.
