Acer has said that Microsoft's plans to launch its own tablet PC would be "negative for the world ecosystem."
The Surface device is the company's attempt to compete with both Apple and Android, who currently dominate the mobile device market.
However, this is not the only competition the Surface will face, as it will also compete with devices from Microsoft's own partners - such as Acer.
Microsoft rubbed more salt into the wound by informing its partners of the plans surrounding the Surface just before its official announcement back in June.
Acer CEO JT Wang told the Financial Times (http://www.ft.com/cms/s/9e522560-dca1-11e1-a304-00144feab49a,Authorised=false.html?_i_location=htt p%3A%2F%2Fwww.ft.com%2Fcms%2Fs%2F0%2F9e522560-dca1-11e1-a304-00144feab49a.html&_i_referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ft.com%2Fhome%2Fuk#axz z22qml4lEg): "It will create a huge negative impact for the ecosystem and other brands may take a negative reaction."
He continued to fire back at Microsoft, stating: "It is not something you are good at so please think twice."
Wang also suggested that if the software giant does continue with the Surface, Acer may look for a replacement partner.
"If Microsoft is going to do hardware business, what should we do? Should we still rely on Microsoft, or should we find other alternatives?" Wang said.
It is hardly surprising that the company's partners are reacting negatively to the Surface, after all, they're looking to compete with their own manufacturing partners.
