Everyone, please show your support for the DCEmu revival campaign. We need your help. One person can make a difference. However many people are needed to for these changes to happen. With virtually no active userbase, boards a mess with too many forums, signs of previous hack attacks, a broken download database plus a number of other problems, this site is nowhere as great as it once was. Add your voice of support by replying via comments below!

Wraggster, take note of this, -please- listen to us and give your input to help turn this site around!

Dcemu is home to many. Many of us learned what homebrew was right here at dcemu.co.uk later I learned to code and went on to use that knowlage to even make money.. this community is my home.. I owe it so much. Everyone that loves this community owes this ship at the very least their full support!! Show your support!! Help revive this great community!!! Everyone's voice will be heard!!!!

I have been visiting DCEmu for years. I love this site, I visit it almost every day, sometimes twice.
For me it has been a number one spot for solid gaming news; mainstream, homebrew, and everything in between.
Once I won a prize of a light gun for PS3 from a competition held here.
I am not active on the forums, I sometimes comment on posts.

I would be very sad to see this site go away.
The site did become a bit shoddy after the hacking spree, the homebrew community got a bit hairy there, and neither have been the same since.

I support DCEmu's revival!

Much love

DCEmu definitely needs a housecleaning! I haven't been by in ages (bad me), but Shrygue is right.. the place does seem more like the scary house on the edge of town than the beacon it once was. Save DCE!

Yes. Wraggster, please comment on this. We want to make this site as strong as it used to be, there are many volunteers around here that would help - but we need your approval. Otherwise DCEmu will continue to decline. According to Alexa.com, it has lost like 80% percent of its daily visitors in the last year. We can't go on like that.

i was hoping by this point i would have heard something from kaiser or quzar..

Maturion
August 22nd, 2012, 10:44
Quzar is still around on IRC, maybe you introduce him to the revival campaign over there. However, I am very disappointed as well by the fact that wraggster hasn't reacted at all so far to the whole campaign. Although I am "just a user" I really would like to see this site thriving again. If we will go on like this another year, DCEmu UK will be completely dead. Using the site is currently a pain in the ass and the whole site is really scaring off any new users.

I've been coming here for a long time. Like since before gnuboy. I NEED dcemu.co.uk. I check the news feed everyday. I don't homebrew as much as I used to, but that doesn't mean I won't. I would like more android news. I go to other sites that have their own content, but I haven't really found a site I like that has the news I want. Also I need the Dreamcast database back up, for posterity, and sick days.

I wonder from time to time why wraggster even bothers upkeeping dcemu at all if he doesn't want it to be a thriving healthy community.... this place could be great again. But the powers that be seem to care less..

You know.. I've fought this battle diplomatically wraggster.. I've appealed to your love for this community. Your love for the craft.. I've never stopped to childish tactics or flame wars to get your response to this much over due community request...

Be a man wraggster.. be the man that I know you are even if very few know you that well.. I know you love this community.. you know dcemu means as much to you as it does to many of us..

Wraggster the community is calling you to action. We want as you want. To see dcemu be at the top of it's game again..

Wraggster.. we can help make that happen.. but not as long as you set on your ass and ignore us all...

I have noticed one can not send a message to wraggster. He rarely ever replies to posts. My current conclusion is most of the time wraggster has a bot posting news from RSS feeds under his name..

Hmm. :/

So dcemu is practically automated now....

Shrygue
August 30th, 2012, 22:46
Yeah, basically that what we think and if he's actually typing something without the bot in place you'll be able to tell from the way he does writes the posts.

Wow I remember you!! Long time no see!!

Welcome to the revival brother. Rome wasn't built in a day. And dcemu won't come back over night but ever member that comes back to the ship is one step closer to that revival!

Bashing Wraggster will get you nowhere (probably). Let's work down the list of things we want from the OP. We need to talk about HOW they are going to be accomplished.
My personal concern is the downloads section. More for the pointers back to the authors and source code. Those two pieces of information could be valuable to other projects on future machines.

The problem is.. a lot of us ex staffers worked harder then he ever did and ran this place with very little help. Our only thanks was none. And to be dissrespected by wraggster ignoring the very people that helped him build this place is quite unacceptable...

There is no need for bashing that is true. Nor is wraggster bashing us.. but there are a few truely unjust acts that need to be addressed. And kissing wraggsters ass is not in the cards..

Why does this smell like dcemulation.com all over again? Say it isn't so.

shadowprophet
September 8th, 2012, 19:44
Well.. anything is in the realm of possibility.. but my intentions where to help save this particular site.. I and many others are awfully fond of it.. the problem is wraggster just doesn't seem to care about the wishes of the community.. and to be honest. Even if wraggster did have a complete change of heart and allow his staff their proper rights. He has still racked up a lot of bad karma over the years by treating hard working staffers as disposable labor... if wraggster was a very intelligent business man. He would disappear and come back under a different name deny all knowledge of the wraggster persona and put the proper amount of power trust and responsibility into his staff that they deserve..

And I say this all from a business based on add revenue perspective alone... just the persona of wraggster has wracked up so much negativity that people just don't want to deal with him..

He really isn't a bad guy.. but his vision of dcemu and treatment of people and actions under the persona of wraggster have cost him untold numbers of money in add revenue.. a smart man would change everything even the persona of wraggster and fix this mess if even for his own bank account....

Shrygue
September 9th, 2012, 00:48
Guymelef, I'm inclined to say this sounds most likely Dcemulation.com all over again and could possibly end up the same way if things here don't change for the better in the not too distant future.

shadowprophet
September 9th, 2012, 01:33
I wonder if wraggster thought of this from a logical business sense dcemu could be a much more successful web site..
A successfully web site must do at least one thing to be considered successful ,it must at the very least make enough money to support itself.

One is forced to resize that running a website is a business..

A good quality website these days ,to be successful must be maintained and updated to keep with the times or That website isn't going to get a whole lot of traffic....
In short dcemu very badly needs to be modernized and updated...

This is wraggster's website. Love it or a hate it. A hostile take over would wind up just like dcemulation.com. Competition would be the best strategy.

Yes this means abandoning the information on the forums. Unless someone can convince wraggster to take a back seat or hand the website over, a new site is the only real alternative. I would personally like him to stick around. We shouldn't speak for him or make assumptions.

The major thing missing now is a homebrew scene. With the DC long dead and buried, and the PSP scene dying because of Android, the PS3 cell tech dead because of Sony, XBOX is a little flat as well. I am not sure the next batch of next gen console will have as big a homebrew scene as the previous iterations. Rather, I see homebrew moving into Apps.

Dcemulation has evolved under Wraggster from just DC to encompass most all platforms. I still want this site rehabilitated and maintained for posterity. Going forward, I have no idea how to create a vision of the future that stills gives the same feeling of connection that sites like dcemulation.com and dcemu.co.uk gave us all.

I think the lack of security planning and disaster recovery from the hack attacks really destroyed our faith in this sites management. All those weeks when the site would just go down because of poor infrastructure didn't help either.

Yes sites like these are labors of love. Which is why most of us didn't create our own.

Speaking of similarities, does any remember Zophar.net in its heyday?? If you've seen it now, you would weep.

#edit

Never mind, the new management finally turned it around, but the downloads section is still a little inconsistent.

I don't entirely agree with you guy.

But you do make several Well informed and intelligent points..

And after rereading your posts. (I just woke up) I mostly agree with you.. your logic is pretty flawless

And yeah, I'm still alive too. :)

Fair points everyone.

I'll start today by upgrading to the latest vBulletin version (4.2.0). I agree that there are too many forums on the front page. This could be sorted under subforums.

My input:

- News posts should not be indexed in the forum search engine. If you click "New Posts" you'll see what I mean. Almost all threads are news posts for the various sites. You'll have to sort through them to see the actual forum posts.
- The downloads system needs to be sorted. The old version we had installed was flawed (security wise) but I'll have a look and see if they've improved security.

You'll have to sort through them to see the actual forum posts. This is one thing that I can see bring a lot of people back to the site, and keep new ones around. Going through the forums, its almost impossible to find a post that is anything other than news.

Great! Although I'd still like to have some newsposts included on the search, I mean those who really have something to with homebrew. But 80% of news posts don't have anything to do with it. :P

Yeah it's a bit difficult to sort out since news is posted in nearly every forum. :)

You can now select the DCEmu Blue (Full) style, it auto adjusts to your browser size:

http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/threads/482523-Support-the-DCEmu-revival-campaign!?p=2148530344&styleid=26#post2148530344

Select your style from the bottom left corner of the site or from your profile.

Reduced the number of forums on the main page from over 70 to around 25. Much cleaner look.

The forums haven't changed at all and the URLs to them stay the same. They've just been moved here:

http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/forums/362-Console-Forums

Click "Console Forums" from the main forum and you'll get to them.

We're going to play with a few ideas to try and organize posts better. It can certainly be a bit unfriendly to users when they see a wall of newsposts and are really only looking for specific stuff.

Been with the site for a minute myself. even tho i rarely post i can say this site has provided me with invaluable information over the years. -this is where it all started for me. i remember dark alex's psp heydays-they were the best! he would crack sony's ofw on the same day it was released.lol
-nowadays this site seems to be missing major headline opportunities like the psvita cfw leak that just happened a couple of days ago. :(
these days i stop by the site at least once a day to get the latest gaming news. I stand by everything said in this thread. -i have nothing but love for this site & want to see it thrive & grow into something more...

Hello chaps. Good work on the rejig.

The mobile style is broken by the advert at the top.
Compare to how it looks when it's not broken: bordersdown.net/forum.php?styleid=91
You could also do with a logo for it too instead of the standard vbulletin one.
