Since PS3 can run Linux, it is a PC after all. So could be possible to attach an external HD-DVD Drive to PS3 and watch HD-DVD movies besides Blu-Ray??

For example the X360 HD-DVD Drive will be compatible with Windows PC. Until now we have seen the Wii remote and the X360 controller to be compatible with the PS3 through Linux with the use of the right (homebrew) drivers.

So creating the right Linux drivers fot the HD-DVD Drive seems possible to me. What do you think???

Play-asia sells the X360 HD-DVD Drive for 160 euros. So with this amount of money, a PS3 owner could have a combo player, if of course a way to install the HD-Drive in Linux PS3 is possible.

Its possible. But with the imminent failure of HD-DVD it would be a waste of money. I'd say wait until mid 2007 and see what develops.
