Ha ha, I was wondering the same thing. I had a go at a mate from work because he borrowed my PSP for lunch on Friday (1st) and when he gave me it back the background was PINK, I had to do a search to find out why. I though that the colours might get darker as month comes to an end but they're not that clever.

from the source i used it would appear that 2006 might have different colours still

Can we in anyway custom our backgrounds? Say use a pic from our gallery?

I found a way to do it, Just go to your gallery and load up an image which is the same size as the psp's screen (doesn't have to be, your choice) which is w:480, h:272 and then press X to view that picture then press select which takes you out of viewing mode but still keeps the image in the background.. only thing is it will be faded to whatever colour your psp screen is for that month. Changing the main menu colour to a light colour should work best if you want to retain the images original colours.

Yeh I did realise that, that's where I got the idea but as soon as you 'click' something else the image disappears :(
