Gamercamp has announced the launch of a new free print magazine for the Toronto-area scheduled for October 16.

Tuesday, Gamercamp festival director Jaime Woo announced a bi-annual magazine to expand on the work being done at Gamercamp, dedicated to games pushing the boundaries of art and creativity in the field. The first issue will include an interview with Vander Caballero of critically-acclaimed Papo & Yo, a look at how Toronto became an indie games darling, and a preview of art from three of 2013's biggest games: Ubisoft Toronto's Splinter Cell Blacklist, Capy Games' Super TIME Force, and DrinkBox's Guacamelee.

"There's still something very satisfying about print media," says Woo, "which gives stronger resonance to the creative work that's being done in these games. The magazine allows us to share smart, entertaining pieces about these games in an accessible manner."

The star of action-platformer Guacamelee also graces the cover of the inaugural issue. "You can tell DrinkBox has a great sense of play and whimsy," says Woo. "Mutant Blobs Attack was a big success for the studio and we thinkGuacamelee will only outdo it. We really felt like it was a breakout star moment."

Gamercamp is one of Canada’s largest games festivals and brings global talent to Toronto. Over 1,000 people attend Gamercamp annually, and this year should prove no exception. Passes are on sale and available at Gamercamp.ca.
