Well iv been seeing around that there are quite a few people updating there psp's to the custom firmware that Dark_Alex has provided us with. Many don't understand the recovery menu that well, nor do they know how to downgrade back to 1.5 via the recovery menu.

-Why is this pack important?

As soon as you update to the custom firmware its always a good idea to have the recovery files on your memory stick just in case anything were to happen that would intern brick your psp.

-How to go back to 1.5 via custom firmware!

1.download the recovery pack
2.extract the content in the recovery pack onto the computer
3.place the "RECOVERY" folder into the game folder of your psp
4.obtain the 1.5 eboot. Rename it "UPDATE.pbp" and place it into the "RECOVERY" folder.
5.Go to the recovery menu on your psp by turning off your psp. Then hold the R trigger and thus turn on your psp and you will be at the recovery menu. It should look like a purple screen.
6.Go to the option "Run program as /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP
7.hit X and the process of the downgrade will begin.

Hope this helps!

This is good to hear. I've been trying to run the downgrader via recovery on 3.03 OE-B' but it didn't show up at all. This time it shoud work. It's not that I'm going to go back to version 1.50 anytime but I just want to see if it the generic downdater program loads at the point be confirming the flashing action so I can downgrade if there's any big problems.

No offence but why would you want to go from 3.03 OE-B to 3.02 OE-A it makes no sence. 3.03 can do everything the other can do an its much better. And this thoes work but i dont have a TA motherboard but i have tryid it.

Correct me if im wrong?

I currently have 3.10OE-a, i want custom xml icons and stuff..

I want 3.03OE-c (that is the new 3.03OE isnt it?)

So i can downgrade to 1.5 like this, and go back up to 3.03OE-c (or A, i dont know)

Is it safe to do that?

Please reply.

Apoklepz

Use the recovery pack to recover to 1.50....not downgrade. Then upgrade to 3.03 OE-C from 1.50.

Just wanted to say thanks for this recovery pack.

I'm new to homebrew (just started playing around with this stuff 3 or 4 days ago) and this recovery tool saved my a** twice already- running 3.10OE-A2:
-No idea what went wrong the first time, but I couldn't get my PSP to boot past recovery mode.
-Made some changes in Flash0 trying to get my LocationFree Player back and couldn't get my PSP to boot out of recovery after making those changes.

All is well now though. 3.10OE-A2 seems to be running great and I got my LocationFree Player working on the 2nd attempt.

I went from 3.03, then used the downgrader to go to v1.50.. then upgraded to 3.10.. will it be safe for me to go back to v1.5 because I've had enough of playing my only three commercial games and I want homebrew again. ???

Someone help please thanks!

If this is possible, I'll have to get a new mem stick first since mine corrputed!

The only reason im asking is because in the 1.5 downgrader they said not to downgrade twice.. i really hope its safe for me to go back to 1.5

Cool. But what's the point? Recover for a semi-brick or something if you don't have a back-up? I'm sorry but I'm not that good with english. But if this is it...I recovered without any back-up froma semi-brick once. I don't remember how though...If this isn't just tell it to me. Lol, I'm acting dumb today for some reason...

Ok, a HUGE freakin' bunch O' Thanks to you guys that provided the files! Awesome!.
I made a goof of NOT removing a GTA UMD while trying to up from 1.5 using an easyupdater 3.0x and the only thing I coudl get to work was the recovery option! -- Of course it didn;t find any files so it didn;t really help .. Luckily I had another PSP that I could get your recovery files and the 1.5 eboot file onto and 'presto' it worked..

Thanks saved my ass and my PSP. :-)

I am going to keep this file on the original 32MB memory stick which is spare since I also have a 2GB one.
So basically the 32MB card is formatted by my current FW which is v3.10 OE-A and has all the proper folders in place and now has the 1.5 EBOOT.PBP file renamed to UPDATE.PBP and everything else in place and ready for action just in case.

This way no-one can accidentally make changes if the card/software are not in the PSP and all I need to do is swap memory cards if the worst happens.

My PSP was a v2.81 FW when I got it last week from fleabay, thankfully I managed to update to v3.03 and use the GTA liberty city stories hack to downgrade to v1.5 then upto V3.10 OE-A what a carry on but worth it, as it can play homebrew software now and so much more :-)

Hey I just wanted to point out that under the recovery mode the recovery option looks for the file :PSP/BOOT/EBOOT not :PSP/RECOVERY/BOOT. Am I correct in assuming that one just needs to rename the RECOVERY folder as BOOT?

You folder's name should be kept as RECOVERY. EBOOT references the .PBP file inside the folder.

There should be *five* files in the folder:

- EBOOT.PBP
- UPDATE.PBP
- decryptprx.prx
- extprxs.pbp
- libpsardumper.prx

UPDATE.PBP should be 13M (the EBOOT is only 62K).

I just foundout by messing around that instead've using a 1.50 EBOOT renamed as UPDATE.PBP you can use just about any firmware with the recovery downgrader...

...I did so with a 2.50 EBOOT which my PSP downgraded with no troubles whatsoever, I really mustn't mess around with using different firmwares than stated as I had already bricked one PSP (now repaired). But I found out something that I don't think has even been documented :D

Ok, so to recap what I said:

Firmware 2.50 and any other firmware (I think??) can be used instead've 1.50 if desired (which I didn't know until I experimented) :)

Guys,

I#d really appreciate some help on this one...
I was running 3.03OE-A and managed to half brick my psp. I can still boot to the recovery menu by holding down th R button, and I've tried copying the 1.50 recovery files to the psp/game/recovery folder, namely:

decryptprx.prx
EBOOT.PBP
extprxs.pbp
libpsardumper.prx
UPDATE.PBP

When I exit USB mode and run the "Run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP" all that happens is the screen goes black (not off) and the memory stick access light flashes at 3 second intervals....no recovery

Do I have to do anything else? Am I doing something wrong? I was under the impression that so long as you could access the recovery menu, the psp was only half bricked and could be saved?!?!

Any help would be MOST appreciated!!

Updating 1.5 > 3.02 Custom

Created the DATA.DXAR successfully then copied into the flasher then ......

When I ran the oeflasher it said copying the 1.50 then it said something abut the 3.02 but said "error DATA.DXAR in use" then the mem stick access light started flashing every couple of seconds.
I can access the recovery menu but everything I try results in the access light flashing for a second or 2.

Has anyone got any idea what this could be?

xg917
July 23rd, 2007, 20:41
try this recovery pack instead, it contains the already extracted files so it should work
delete all the .ds_store files if you see any.
take the 1.50 eboot and rename it to UPDATE.pbp and put it in the recovery folder. put the recovery folder in GAME folder. and go to recovery menu and run program

xg917
July 23rd, 2007, 22:30
hmm
try this one. i rared is this time instead of zip
delete all the .ds_stores you see.

Sunriselad
July 23rd, 2007, 22:43
Thank You, I managed to get the files out of the zip before when I downloaded them with firefox, it was only IE that corrupted the zip. The problem I seem to have is that nothing seems to launch. When the mem access flashes there is a high pitched noise as it accesses then nothing. This repeats but at anytime I can go straight back to the recovery mode by pressing R again.
I have another TA-081 board from a broken 1, I think I'll transplant that to see if it works (thats if I can get the thin LCD connector back in!!)
Shame this recovery won't work, I wonder if anyone who knows the flasher code would know what happens when it says "Error DATA.DXAR in use" cos that was the start of my trouble.

xg917
July 23rd, 2007, 22:52
i kind of dont get your problem.. but here is a suggestion

try making the dxar again and flashing it through recovery

This is probably a dumb question, but where is the 1.5 eboot file? The steps are simple to follow, and I did, but I see no results.

xg917
July 23rd, 2007, 23:09
the 1.5 eboot you have to download from psp-hacks.com or dl.qj.net

preythesun
July 23rd, 2007, 23:43

preythesun
July 23rd, 2007, 23:47
When I go to check my card for the data, it is corrupted, so idk. Someones else have this problem before?

preythesun
July 23rd, 2007, 23:51
Nvm, I got it.

Sunriselad
July 24th, 2007, 06:06
xg917, that worked, I used the recovery to flash 3.02 again, it was the only eboot that didn't do the black screen.

If anyone has the same problem, i think I read one earlier then the solution (from xg) is to use the recovery to reflash (ie put the oeflasher eboot and the data.dxar in the recovery folder and execute)

Once again many thx xg

Thanx for the quick response. One more question, this will sound odd, but can i use this to get back to non-custom firmwares?

I have a PS3 and currently i cant copy any games from the PS3 to the PSP. I havent played with any Homebrew for a while now and i have no interest in running dodgy iso's so i think its time to go back.

Thanx in advance

Chameleon
August 3rd, 2007, 12:50
no, it wont.. the farthest you can go up the official ladder is 3.10 I believe ( sony patched it so you cant go to any higher official firmwares if any tinkering was done)

Did you try restoring default system settings? Thatll probably solve your problem with the game issue.

Even if you dont use it for homebrew, it will always be there if you get really bored ( you might regret it later down the line if you upgrade to official)

i am un able to access the recovery mode of the psp maybe im stupid but if some one can help me out with a detailed explanation. but i have attempted to enter the recovery.
Here is how i did it
Hard shut down
hold R and turned on
no recovery screen
i don't have cfw
i used the 3.5 exploit to down grade to 1.5
then i was trying to install cxmb but didn't know which one was which so i kept installing new ones to get a taste of what i wanted but i guess i over flashed my memory and now i can't get past the opening sequence and i haven't installed any flash formatters so am i just royally screwed or what. if you could send the help in a form of a pm since its hard to find my posts again.

MicroNut
August 5th, 2007, 02:30
Well your not stupid.

you cannot get into the recovery mode...
and I hate to be the one to say this
If thats true your psp is a brick.

You can try and pull the battery out to make sure its 100% off
then put it back in
Hold the R button, Power it up and hope.

But you say have never installed a custom firmware
Only downgraded to native 1.5
If this is true the recovery menu wont be on the flash (NAND)
Nothing to boot too except the corrupted files.

You'll have to fix the corrupted files on the flash somehow.
You'll need a flashmod device to do that.

Hope you read this. when you say put the recovery folder in the game folder is it the 1.50,3.40, or the original because I looked at it in all of them through the xmb and it always says corrupted data. I havent tried it yet but is it supposed to say corrupted in the xmb or did I messed something up? P.S. firmware 3.40 oe-a is the best!!! Everybody should do it! when i are going to run it in the recovery mode it only turns black ( i have 3.10 OE-A ) and have tried many downgrading methodes.

Same here. It never downgrades. I get the black screen of death, shut it off, turn it on a bit later, it's back up and going like nothing ever happened, still on 3.10 oe-a even though i used the recovery menu and tried to load 1.5.

Can you help? My son has a psp with 3.40OE custom firmware on it but cannot play new bought games. How can I change the psp so it works like it never had custom firmware on it? Or upgrade (easily) so he can play newer games? Please help ??

You can upgrade to the new 3.90 m33-2, which is a custom firmware.

This should play all of the games you want to play.

Thanks for replying. Will I need to downgrade to 1.50 first or just download the 3.90 m33-22 straight off? Is there anything else I should know - for fear of breaking it ?

That is exactly what myne does and i cant figure out how to actually have it work. for some reason with 3.10 oe-a it will not go up

Go into the Recovery Menu and make sure the Kernel for Game is set to 1.50 not 3.10

Recovery Menu
Configuration -> Game Folder homebrew (currently: 1.50 kernel)

By default it should be set to 3.10 kernel.

To get in to the Recovery Menu.
Cold Boot your PSP + Hold the Right Tigger.
Cold Boot means that your PSP is completely off - Not in standby mode.
Hold the Power Button all the way up for about 8 Seconds and the PSP will turn completely off.

Locked, 3.40OE is dangerously old and is considered unstable.

Update to 4.02 M33 =)
