If you don't upgrade then you are stupid. 3.03OE can do anything that your 1.5 can do plus
PS1 games
Run upto 3.03 UMD's without 60mb of DevHook on your MS.
Recovery is also a godsend.

3.03 OE-B is awesome trust me i upgraded to it and i love it you can have all the fun you can with 1.50 plus you can have all the stuff you have with 3.03 plus built in PS1 emulator and a recovery menu so you can change CPU speeds and if your PSP every bricks(rendering your PSP useless) you can go into the recovery menu and restore it back the 1.50 so you wont get stuck with a useless psp... trust me its a WIN WIN situation here.... you will be pleased with this firmware.. and the chance of bricking is very minimal its like a 1% out of 100% so its very unlikely you will brick... most bricks are caused my human error not flashing the firmware its self should be ok.. i would upgrade and as for you dad its a pretty safe process but just so you know if this is a new PSP and you have sony's warranty you will void your warranty(i think you might want to double check that) but i would do it you will be happy!

tell him the only way to brick the psp is if YOU make a mistake, follow it word for word and there won't be a problem, plus the recovery menu fixes partial bricks.

I upgraded to 3.03 OE-B and if I never did that I wouldn't have half as much fun w/ my psp as I do now.

Dette - while browsing a forum, there should be a New Thread button near the top of the page, left hand side.
