View Full Version : Problem with New Popstation and 3.03 OE-C

I have been using Future Cop LAPD to test the creation of an eboot.pbp using the new popstation and data.psar.
Primarily because its the only game I own that requires the 3.02 plug-in.

And I have run into a strange problem.

I have the new DATA.PSP (edit: not .PSAR) in the same folder as the base.pbp and new popstation.exe
My understanding is that the new data.psar is supposed to allow the use of psx eboots without the Keys.bin file.
Well that's the part I am not sure about.

I can launch the newly created Future Cop LAPD eboot and start a new game.
However the game crashes in the exact same way as it did in 3.03 without the 3.02 plug-in.

Thinking that all i needed to do was go in and reset the 3.02 plug-in, in the recovery mode, I started my journey.

I reset the plug-in and the game still crashed loading the first level (without the keys.bin file.)
Exactly as it does in 3.03 without the plug-in.

I put the keys.bin file back into the game folder
and the game crashed at the same spot again.

I then reset the 3.02 plug-in registry and the game loads and seems to play again without problems.

This is repeatable.
-Delete the keys.bin
-Game crashes same spot.
-Replace keys.bin
-Game crashes same spot.
-Reset 3.02 plug-in
-Game loads first level like it should.

Do I not have the DATA.PSAR in the right location?

What else am I doing to cause this?

Is this expected behavior based on this statement in the 3.03OE-C popstation read me?

"Note: these EBOOT.PBP cannot work in versions prior to 3.03 OE-C due to a bug that those versions had."

If I read this correctly games that are known not to work in 3.03 will always need a keys.bin file.
(the keys.bin file is still created with the new pops.)

Deleting the keys.bin file then launching the game forces the 3.02 plug-in registry entry to fail,
until its disabled and enabled again.

what im gonna do is wait for a GUI interface that will do all of that for you, telling me where to put the files i need, i expect a GUI will be released in the next couple of days

Its possible the plug-in for 3.02 PSX doesn't work with the new created popstation games, patience i believe is the key here

I have no problems using a command line whatsoever.
Living in that dark world keeps my skin from burning.

Right now I use PSX2PSP which is a no-brainer.
I like it very much. It comforts my overly taxed logic centers.

I don’t think that this GUI is the problem.
But I haven’t tested creating the game from the popstation project folder using the cmd prompt.
So I should try that.

Maybe the 3.02 plug-in isn’t working the way it should.
I don’t know.

I do know that it needs to be active to play the game I have.
A game that is known to have problems with 3.03 pops.

I do know that it still needs the keys.bin file after it has been converted with the new pops.

I am a very patient person so no worry or anticipation issues here.
I can still play and test my game.

Most importantly I wanted to report my "discovery"
Because it may effect other games that need the 3.02 plug-in
and the keys.bin file to work when using the new pops.

Again the 3.02 plug-in may need to be fixed.
I don't know.

Thank you for the kind reply.

Thats no worries, I know that all of the devs out there for the PSP are nice guys and they will help us out in way they possibly can

Um... how about naming it DATA.PSP instead of PSAR? :D

Although it might have been a typo in your post.

That is a typo.
I do appreciate the keen eye.

I wish I had made that mistake.

It is the correct 19kb DATA.PSP <---

I am bumping this in the hope that someone would be willing to test Future Cop LAPD using the newest 3.10 OE firmware
and let me know if the first level loads and plays with sound.

I would like too move up to the 3.10 OE firmware but the pops 3.02 plug-in for 3.10 OE has not yet been released.

I know that I can always go down and backup in firmware but I don't want to risk bricking during all of those flashes.

Thank you.

I'm able to launch the game on 3.10 OE however it crashes while loading any level.

Zukan Thank you very much!

keefurxxcore I have the original and have used bin/cue and cdd with the same results.
Its not the GUI.
I have tried a conversion from the command prompt and its the same.

The game just doesn't play well or at all in any other pops other than 3.02
