xcjzerox
January 27th, 2007, 22:45
it was too late

It was common sense plugin

Shrygue
January 27th, 2007, 22:45
Now I see, it was a bid to free flash0 space to jam in the slash and blood gameboot, as its file size is 516kb.

xcjzerox
January 27th, 2007, 22:46
Does right

splodger15
January 27th, 2007, 22:48
The font shouldnt have done that much. I believe it might have the the update.rco file that done it

xg917
January 27th, 2007, 22:49
MAN Y DONT RECOVERY SHOW UP, The screen doesnt even light up. ughh

splodger15
January 27th, 2007, 22:52
Have you tried taking battery out.

Shrygue
January 27th, 2007, 22:54
I'm not excactly sure but doesn't X-flash v18K delete the update_plugin.rco, along with the associating update_plugin.prx? If it did, my PSP that was previously on 3.03 OE-B' didn't brick and worked fine. I got the s&b gameboot on that afterwards using PSP filer 2.5.

xg917
January 27th, 2007, 22:54
yes sir... doesnt do anything. im trying to make the battery run out

xg917
January 27th, 2007, 22:55

xg917
January 27th, 2007, 23:00
no man dont try iT!

and i read this on qj.net:
jpn0.pgf (1,545 KB) also located in flash0:/font can also be replace with a ltn0.pgf however the following will be missing:
arrows at the bottom of xmb "agreement" screens are blank
some "tm" signs are blank
DNAS icon while authenticating is blank.
Arrow to the right of the On Screen Keyboard is missing.

xcjzerox
January 27th, 2007, 23:01

xg917
January 27th, 2007, 23:09
how did u brick acn? xcjzerox came up wit a good idea for us man

go to wal mart, buy another psp... wehn u go out of wal mart, open it and put the bricked psp in the box, then keep the new psp. and return the bricked to get money back, then there but we have to make sure that we find the correct firmware.

\EDIT: hey acn, ur recovery dont work???

carlitx
January 27th, 2007, 23:18
hmm good i dea i do something like that to wallmart sometimes lol u can returne anything there. hahaha well if u needs the file to replce it if u can find some way to open up ur flash ill send it over msn k.

xg917
January 27th, 2007, 23:23
nah, i alredy backed up everything including flash. i thought that the brick wasnt going to be this bad..

Shrygue
January 27th, 2007, 23:24
I've just tested out in official firmware 3.03 under Device Hook 0.52 emulation the jpn0.pgf file can't be removed as it would lead to a contstanly repeating cycle of the Blue Screen of Death. So if that's the case, it couldn't have made a total brick; i.e the screen not lighting up.

xg917
January 27th, 2007, 23:32
the screen isnt lighting up, and there is no BSoD unfortunately... and also the recovery does not show up, so for some reason. something that does not totally brick, just bricked my psp. but shouldnt the psp turn off after like 15 seconds on a brick? man this sucks, im surprised that i was still on recovery after deleting files..

carlitx
January 27th, 2007, 23:39
haha ya psp is weird like that

Shrygue
January 27th, 2007, 23:42
If the screen doesn't light up and the power goes off after 15 secounds of turning on then it's practically a total brick. I have landed up with one before as I once stupidly fell over the AC cable and the battery came out of the PSP (it was a beat-up second-hand unit) during an update to 2.70 from 2.60 (a time before I got onto homebrew).

xg917
January 27th, 2007, 23:53
i thank you for information on brick. i think mine is an unusual brick. my psp is still on, im letting the battery die out, i think i am gona go to walmart and try the swapping trick

It isn't a brick. Take your battery out, put it back in and hold down the R button when turning it back on.

All you've been doing when turning it off and on is taking it in and out of standby...

It definently wasn't the deletion of jpn0 as I have done that ( dummy jpn0 with itn0) and my psp has worked fine, while I freed up 1.5 Megabytes on my flash0. I believe though that deleting the plugin was the bullet that did your psp in. OF course your memorystick may have gotten corrupted somewhere in the process, and that could be the source of your problems. Try using someone elses PSP and test your Memorystick to make sure it still works before you try the whole walmart trick. I only say that because chances are if the guy deleted a PLUGIN, he will most likely make a stupid mistake returning the psp like using a Credit Card somewhere in the process. I'm not hatin', just being truthful and I don't want to hear that he has a bricked psp AND is in-jail/beingsued/banned-from-walmart.

Did Recovery work before his happened. Try doing anything and everything different e.g A.C adapter.

Get hold of someone elses mem stick with recovery on it. To make sure its done correctly i advise using the installer, try booting recovery from there

acn010
January 28th, 2007, 01:11
wont work for me at all

xg917
January 28th, 2007, 01:13
yea i was in recovery and i hit exit, then then nothing happened for a while so i turned it off, then i turned it back on and nothing happens and i cant go back to recovery

Cloudhunter
January 28th, 2007, 01:14

xg917
January 28th, 2007, 01:16

pt9087
January 28th, 2007, 01:17

xg917
January 28th, 2007, 01:25
replace it? can u tell me wut u mean by that?

yea on monday im gona use my friend's card to see if i can acess recovery, but the thing is that wen i take out my memory stick the same thing happens: nothing!

acn010
January 28th, 2007, 01:30
it seems that you have the exact same problem

xg917
January 28th, 2007, 01:42
this shit just aint fair, brick cuz of 2 things that i deleted.... just cant be, hey acn, does ur psp stay on? or does it turn off in 15 seconds. and also does it read ur memory card?

acn010
January 28th, 2007, 01:46
it basically restarts thats it, thats the reason the memstick is blinking

xg917
January 28th, 2007, 01:54
man this day is the worst.. i recovered for the first time then went back to OE C cuz something didnt work, then i got a brick...

ARghh, this is something I didn't want to hear. What I recommended you do was test to make sure the memory stick was working, but if you get the same results WHILE the memory stick is not in the psp, then I'm afraid there is nothing you can do to fix it even if the memorystick isn't working. Better start researching on how to give walmart the slip, I recommend (TOTSE.com).

That is why people you always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE EVERYTHING DAMN RIGHT BEFORE FLASHING

and its really important that eveyrthinhg is perfect

and remember this most importantly

DO NOT FLASH SOMETHING IF YOU REALLY DONT NEED IT!

and this too

ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK AND GIVE YOUR PSP TIME TO DO ITS THING WHEN IN AN UPDATE, NEVER RUSH OR WORRY IF ITS NOT GOING AS FAST YOU WANT

AND ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE GOING, ive done this countless of times

if you follow these two rules, heck i dont think you can brick

Yeah, maybe it makes me a coward, but regardless how cool a feature is, such as gameboots/changing fonts/etc, I would never touch my flash files. Period.

The only person I trust with my flash files are fanjita and Dark_Alex.

i've only modified my gameboot so far and i'll be sticking at that since i'm rather sure that even if i screwed that up i can still go to the recovery screen.

Fonts may be my next step...

Though the safest would be to not even touch the flash of the psp...

yes, now i should have a chance at doing that then, thanks wolfpack. but to ask you, do i need to use cold cash or credit card wen buying the new psp? also do u think i should swap the battery too and keep the old battery in the new psp?
also what should i say to them, should i return it the day after or the same day i buy it?

and no prob on fixing your brick acn0. i would love to help u on your mugen project, i saw the video on DBZ mugen it was friggen crazy dawg, now imagin the metroid mugen

congrats, you've been moping around threads with your tales of brick-woedem and I was startin to feel pretty sorry for you. Anyway, to all those that won't touch the flash in fear that you may cause a brick, I commend you, since chances are if you believe you will then you probally will. However, as long as you read instructions well and plan ahead, like tetris999 said theres almost no chance of you bricking, 'specially on a custom firmware. I would hate for people to miss out on the full-potential of their psps due to a fear of bricking.

xg917
January 28th, 2007, 06:38
yea well i was doin somethin and i was like, o well if i brick then i could just recover, so then i exited recovery, and nothing happened and i left it like that for a while. so i turned it off, and i turned it back on and held R, and nothing happened. and THATS wen i started freaking out, i was like OMFG OMG... the thing is that it looks like the speakers and backlight doesnt work anymore, cuz it just stays on if i turn it on, it doesnt turn off or do anything else. this shit is gay man, cant believe this.. but hey... thers always wal-mart

So i ran recovery and 5 seconds later it crashes... Should i try to just run 1.5 anyway, but if it crashes while in the process im fu**ed.

xg917
January 28th, 2007, 19:21
hey, i think i kno why i bricked: cuz, wen i was trying to add the game boot, i deleted every single file, and put the back up, which is (reflashing) since it was so many files that were added to flash 0, it takes longer to load to xmb, i didnt give it enough time to let my psp reflash all the items, and turned off my psp. making it useless..

plz correct if im rong
