if you count shattering the screen, 2 times ir-repairable. all the other times, I'd say maybe 8, were semi-bricks caused by messing with flash0 ( mainly making space, and using the memorystick as a cache when using the web-browser) been brick for 48 days and counting though:D

Never, because my PSPs have nice quality.

Never, I don't have the money to mess around with my PSP like that. 3.10 OE-A works fine with no flash editing, so why risk it?

0 times.
I don't see where people get the money to buy new PSP's all the time.

If you can recover your PSP, then it is not a brick.

It is called a brick, because it turns your PSP into a really expensive brick. That's all it can be used as, a brick.

Correct, I think what they are talking about here (being unable to boot it and get into the XMB but still being able to recover it) is called a semi brick. Happened to me one time on 2.71 SE when I tried to customize it with XFlash.

thats what i ment stuff like that. not loading xmb. loads battery and time not xmb. and doesnt load anything and stays black.

I bricked 34 times, all recovered via recovery menu except for one when I was updating from 2.60 to 2.70 when I tripped over the AC cable and the battery came out (this was a time before I got on the homebrew scene).

Based on that, no PSP can ever truly be bricked, but many people lack the equipment to unbrick (modchip)

I have semi-bricked twice. First time I moved index.dat to the root of my flash0 (used filer, ths was before usb flash access came out), because I wanted to see the red screen of death. Second time was (everyones mistake) flashing a custom topmenu after upgrading to 3.10 OE.

I love how everyone thinks a mod chip can magically unbrick a bricked PSP. You CANNOT unbrick a brick. What don't you understand? Even if your modchip houses a second partition of flash, this won't make a difference. If your ipl is screwed up (ONLY one of the many ways to fully brick), then you are out of luck. NOTHING will recover it.

Yup, Although the UP can recover certain types of brick, as it allows you to reflash effected sections.

However, if your IDStorage or your IPL is dead, then you are gone without a hope buddy.

If you have a TA-082, (for now, unless this new mod chip magically surfaces) you have no chance.

I bricked my psp 2 times i believe and it was last week when the new devhook was released. When i ran it and then went back to my regular OE firmware i found that i had bricked. I recovered however and installed OE back on. This happened two times in one day. No harm done though as my psp is well. :)

I don't muck around with it at all. i'll only install something that has a good track record of working.

yeah most people have never really bricked. semi bricks are common but are no big deal and ive done it several times before.

Just the once, I believe the cause to have been a slip-up hex-editing an rco to redirect wallpaper to MS, even though I triple-checked my modifications. (Following the tut correctly, before anyone has a go at me or implies that anyone who bricks is a moron).

Fortunately, I had a nice gullible salesperson dealing with the return of said bricked PSP. :)
