View Full Version : [PSP] uoDaedalus FRA-OE Mod PSP R9

Practically full speed N64 emulation ?!? - YES

There is a unofficial Daedalus that has began circulating around the internet. Unfortunatley, I was not able to find any information on who actually made it.

This is a Frame skip mod of Daedalus R9, with frame skip enabled !!

Yes, thats right. I've tested this myself (Mario 64), on frame skip 3, and it ran 34 fps outside (and inside) the castle. And once in world 1, it ran a steady 20 - 27+ fps. :O
That was at frameskip 3. You can adjust the frame skip from 1 -10 in options.

This is the fastest Nintendo 64 emulation on PSP so far. So while we wait for the official R10 from StrmnNrmn, this should keep us occupied.

LOL. Why wouldn't it be safe ? It's not like it writes to flash or anything. it's just an emulator bro.

hmmmm frame skip eh? does 3 really hinder the game play or is just a bit choppy?

Mr. Shizzy
March 18th, 2007, 18:11
Frame skip at three does make it a little choppy. I'm using it at frame skip 2 now, and its smooth as silk. :)

March 18th, 2007, 19:07
indeed, frameskip DOES make a big difference, but it looks a little strange with frameskip 3.
Anyway, for those that can't live without playing Zelda OOT this is surelly a "must-have"

g00gy
March 18th, 2007, 19:10
nope its definatly far from full speed. still very buggy choppy and slow.

i still hink its cool though. i dont believe that full speed is impossible. but it needs alot of work

March 18th, 2007, 19:45
well isnt this the same file as i started a topic in emulation forum some week ago?

it also had framskip option and it was probably a leak from the beta testers..

Are you sure this is a good thing? I mean Strmnnrmn said he was already going to implement frameskip in his next release, so...

why the neews now if this emu mod from the unknown was around weeks ago, i had it thanks to somebody in msn to download in megaupload.

leaks from beta testers only harm the emulation scene.

The developers eventually stop making the emus when these idiots leak the private beta versions of any emulator, FACT!

So no more beta leaks please

xg917
March 18th, 2007, 20:30
i was just thinking about that

edit: haha! thers this one part of the deku tree that runs at 22 fps n it makes me happy seeing it play like that. im never leaving that room. lol im at frame skip 2
i wish zelda can play that way throughout the whole game instead of just this one part..

 It's really fast :D Even with sound, Super Mario 64 is close to full speed. This should defiantly tide me over till R10.

xg917
March 18th, 2007, 20:41
definately ;) but... man for some reason daedalus went back to the start menu wen i was jumping through the web in the deku tree. has anyone gotten farther than taht. i mannaged to get the sling shot with out any errors of anything. daedalus just restarted on me back to the rom choosing menu when i was in mid air

editt!: now its just freezing on me when i go through the web, what should i do

im fine at frameskip 2 with mario64. by R10 it should be running really smooth at full speed because of speed ups ST is making.

March 18th, 2007, 21:34
This is beginning to look like we could get a good amount of full speed games for N64 on PSP but I hope I didn't jinx it. I don't really care for the unofficial releases but I love the way strmnnrmn always keeps us updated and has stayed with his emulator for so long. It's going to be great to see R10 when it comes out.

kiariki
March 18th, 2007, 21:56
Is there any confirmation on this being the same version that was released a while ago? ... Maybe I should just try it out...

I'm going to see if Ridge Racer works better... Like with actual texture on some of the tracks...

... And Smash Bros... :P

I've already gotten bored of Mario 64... That's about the only thing that really works plus Mario Kart (although even that's kinda strange).

Either way, I hope this doesn't make Str... uh... Mr. Daedalus-Creator quit... He can do better than this... >:D We know it... Right?

March 18th, 2007, 22:33
Very nice work indeed. Full speed in Super Mario 64 with frameskip 2. Even with sound it's quite fast as someone already said.

Assuming R10 is even better than this, I guess that will run almost full speed smoothly. Thanks to StrmnNrmn (and the person who built this unofficial version)!

What version of Zelda are you running? There are over 10 different dumps. Several are bad dumps. The most stable version is 1.0. The rom should be called:

Zelda, The Legend of - Ocarina of Time (U) (v1.0) [!].z64

Yes I believe so, It surprises me usually I'm very in sync with the PSP scene, and yet I didn't know about this till tonight lol =P

Well none the less I love this and the frame skip truly makes a difference I have yet to try ocarina of Time, I really hope it is as good as you guys make it sound =]

It's funny, because I just happened to implement frameskip for R10 last night :) I'd meant to add it to R9, but I forgot. Anyway, the next official release will support frameskip.

I've not tried this version, so I can't vouch for its authenticity - it's hard to tell exactly where it's come from. Basically use it at your own peril :)

March 19th, 2007, 11:10
lol, six pages of post that are debating wither or not StrmnNrmn realeased this or if it was leaked, then he shows up and shuts evry one down. lol

and ya i to keep getting a bad file, ne advise.

s15240drifter
March 19th, 2007, 11:35
ok has ne tried turning the sound on with frame skip. im mario 64 with sound on and i have the frame skip set at two. let me just say that it is completly playable. i had sound on and was gettin 23 fps out side the castle and 20 in side, and 15-20 in lvl's. its almost perfect.

March 19th, 2007, 13:34
Well, anything that'll speed up my Master Quest progress is great news...ot's very playable now at FS 2.

Cant' wait for the real deal R10, though.

So if StrmnNrmn didnt add frameskip to this build, who did?

kiariki
March 19th, 2007, 17:05
So it's confirmed that this is the same version that was released like a week or 2 ago?

It is... and it isn't... >_> Er... This one is at least 16 seconds more recent than the unofficial frameskip R9 that came out a while ago.

Either way, nothing was changed except that you now need to use the second "%" folder... >_> At least I have my PSP assigned to hide those things... :(

Thanks for clearing that up StrmnNrmn. Great to hear there will be frameskip in the next build and other speed improvements.
I wonder who did this tweak? I was beginning to wonder but assumed it was StrmnNrmn´s work leaked.
If he has anything to offer he should get in contact with StrmnNrmn.
Lol, now bring on R10!

You know...I just tested this along with the real R9 and the frameskip 1 on this Unnoficial release is nothing less than the real R9's default speed.

I had modified the original emulator and placed it in RapidShare. I don't know if this is my version.
Here it's the sources... and EBOOT...

R9 is really good.
R10 will be better.
