i just upgraded from 1.50 to 3.10 OE and nothing works. i go to the game folder and nothing works. no homebrew loads, it just makes the white psp screen, then after 5-10 seconds it takes me back to the home screen and says "error, the game could not be started (and then some code starting with 8)." these are things like gpsp 0.8 and super mario war that worked perfectly before i upgraded to 3.10 OE. pretty soon im going to try to downgrade to 1.50. what am i doing wrong? somebody mentioned something about a game150 folder but i have no idea what that is.

Well you need to change your kernel to 1.50 (Change through the recovery menu)

Then place all homebrew in the GAME150 folder if you dont have a GAME150 folder make one

Well, that is new to me, I'm using 1.50 homebrew on my 3.10OE without any problems, and I've never used the recovery menu to change the kernel...
Just put your homebrew in the game150 folder (the firmware uses the 1.50 kernel then for these apps, I think)
If you don't have these folders feel free to create them (but in the right place)...or you could just format your memorystick with the psp...3.10OE creates these folders then

where does the game150 folder go? in the game folder? root of your memstick?

it goes in the PSP folder ( placed right next to the GAME folder)

You have to change the recovery setting to 1.5 kernel first!

I don't know what kind of problem you have...I didn't have to change the kernel, I just copied the apps into the game150 folder and they work!

You are really missing out. Custom firmware is way better, and you can brick less easily.

After you have set the 1.50 kernel in recovery mode, it works just like a 1.50 but better.

But whatever, your choice

i think a lot of people had the same worrying first steps with OE
id put my experience down to the readme file saying something like "run the file in the game folder"
with no instructions on settings and whatnot.

thank god for google, i fixed it.

Really, I don't see why people need to use GAME150 as often as is explained; I put all my homebrew into GAME and they work great. Only with a few apps have I needed to place them into GAME150.

Setting the kernel to 1.50 in Recovery is necessary though for almost all homebrew. when using official demos, use 3.0x kernel to play those; but still I put most everything in Game and it works.
