April 4th, 2007, 19:38
smash bros works with dynamic off, but is still unplayable as characters dont show up (Only tried vs. mode, kirby vs donkey kong i think i tried)

Did bad fur day need expansion? Strmnnrmn didnt add expansion support this release as it caused problems, so no game that needs expansion pak will work (Only one I can think of off-hand is Majoras mask)

also, LoZ OoT has random crashes with dynamic on, but too slow to be playable with dynamic off

diddy kong racing - HEAVY GRAPHICAL GLITCHES ( not playable ) - screen is totally blue except for speed-o-meter, with dynamic on or off

Chameleon
April 4th, 2007, 19:46
Thanks ill fully test with that option off
Bad fur day did not need the expansion pack

under major graphical issues which ones are playable and which ones arent

xg917
April 6th, 2007, 02:02
ALL playable but wayyyyyy too slowww <- i would consider that not playable, correct?

in flying dragon, no textures loaded (nothing appears on the screen, its just all gray. but u can hear things from the game if u turn on the audio

and in mario party, there is only one level that i can play but then freezes after choosing characters

Chameleon
April 6th, 2007, 02:09
some have intense graphical issues but great speed... and thank you xg917

xg917
April 6th, 2007, 02:14
some that i listed?
well snowboard kids 2 kinda goes slow. i wasnt paying attention to fps at the moment. mario party 2 has good speed but crashes later on
those are the only 2 games that go at an OK speed.
and no problem man

Chameleon
April 6th, 2007, 02:35
Its all in there... i think i got them categorized properly, i even tested a couple of them to ensure :)

Balthasar00
April 6th, 2007, 03:09
Mystical Ninja Goemon -US

play near full speed but crash in the way to the grappling hook pipe.

Chameleon
April 6th, 2007, 03:11
how far is that?

Balthasar00
April 6th, 2007, 03:52
in the first area after you exit the first town (Kai : highway.) Once you can see the river textures.. I think there is also a random freeze. In town, it seams ok.

3 things needed to play in town :

skip fast the scroll intro.
put resolution to unscaled.
put frame skip 2-3

If not, it will freeze outside of Goemon house.

I'll try europe rom now.

Europe rom display text stuff better than US does. Freeze at same places.

Balthasar00
April 6th, 2007, 04:23
Star wars : Shadow of the empire

US = Hard crash (even daedalus crash)
EUR = crash

The sd card red light flash alot more on US rom.

Chameleon
April 6th, 2007, 06:11
help is more appreciated than you know :)

when i entered the water it froze.

unknownwarrior33
April 7th, 2007, 02:01
Extreme-G works very well. There are some minor graphical errors, and it's not quite full speed, but definitely fast enough to enjoy.

unknownwarrior33
April 7th, 2007, 03:43
Here are some more I tested. Note that the roms were all zipped; I don't know if that matters. I also used the emulator's default settings for each rom.

Star Fox 64 (US Version) - Version 1.0 works great, 1.1 crashes after logo

Pilotwings 64 (US Version) - Kind of slow, with some annoying graphical errors, but playable.

Yoshi's Story (US Version) - Does not load

Mario Party 2 (US Version) - Freezes up when Toad is explaining the rules; may work on other game boards (I only tried Pirate Land)

Wave Race 64 (US Version 1.0) - Freezes before course selection

Wave Race 64 (US Version 1.1) - Same as version 1.0

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (US Version) - Slow and heavy graphical problems; barely playable

Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey (US Version) - Heavy graphical problems; not playable

Bomberman Hero (US Version) - Major graphics problems in that when you start a level you just see Bomberman in a field of blue. Everything else is fine.

Donkey Kong 64 (US Version) - Crashes Daedalus; not that I expected it to work

Nagano Winter Olympics 98 (US Version) - Crashes after selecting number of players

Razor Freestyle Scooter (US Version) - Crashes Daedalus

Star Wars Episode 1 Racer (US Version) - Does not load

Buck Bumble (US Version): Severe graphical problems; not playable

Hexen (US Version) - Almost perfect; very minor graphical problems

Rampage 2 Universal Tour (US Version) - Almost perfect; very minor graphical problems

South Park (US Version) - Does not load

Space Station Silicon Valley (US Version) - Freezes after logo movies

I hope this helped. As I try more games I'll post again.

Good to see someone take on a compat list

-Xandu-
April 7th, 2007, 10:51
I heard that you can use a Paper Mario.sav file and it works full speed.

Chameleon
April 7th, 2007, 10:55
I heard that too but by default it does not...
Do you happen to know where to get the .sav

-Xandu-
April 7th, 2007, 10:59
Nope :(, although some people here have it.

I'll post if I find any.

Chameleon
April 7th, 2007, 11:20
Ive already seeded through roughly a hundred roms, with the help of great DCEmu users
only a couple more hundred to go :)

unknownwarrior33
April 7th, 2007, 23:53
Can you update the list with your newer findings (and maybe mine, if they're not redundant)? That way people can just use the first post as a compatibility list.

Paper Mario (US Version) isn't working for me with a save file; it freezes after a short time.

Chameleon
April 8th, 2007, 00:17
what are you talking about? are you speaking of the captions... if so I have added all of them but some where indeed redundant...

If you put a rom under the Freezes at Menu... i dont feel the need to specify where... most of the time they freeze right before the game is entered or right after the N64 logo

I planned on using the first post as the compatibility list every rom that people have listed i have transfered to the first post

Chameleon
April 8th, 2007, 05:39
Any help... any at all, ill + rep anyone who does :)

unknownwarrior33
April 8th, 2007, 21:32
Sorry, I think I must have misunderstood something. You can ignore what I said.

unknownwarrior33
April 9th, 2007, 01:52
Turns out I was wrong about Paper Mario, but I can't find a save file that works with the emulator so I can't test whether it works with one.

Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu Basic-hen 2001 (Japanese version, the only one) - Freezes before baseball game actually starts

Rakuga Kids (Japanese Version) - works, but with heavy graphics problems (but playable)

Tonic Trouble (US Version) - Same problem as Paper Mario; might work with a save file.

Turok Dinosaur Hunter (US Version 1.2 and 1.0) - does not load

Forsaken 64 (US Version) - works perfectly as far as I've played

Anyone have any games they want me to try?

Chameleon
April 9th, 2007, 02:11

-Xandu-
April 9th, 2007, 09:16
Weird..

It seems that the original Daedalus (for Windows) also freezes with Paper Mario. I'll have a look into this..

Chameleon
April 9th, 2007, 09:22
Maybe something with the savestate function...
Ill check into it too, thanks

April 9th, 2007, 09:25

-Xandu-
April 9th, 2007, 09:39
Paper Mario freezes when it reads the Flash RAM;

Read from FLASHRAM <addr2> 0xa8000000

Taken from the Debug Console.

The mempack and the SRAM are the only ones that load correctly.

Chameleon
April 9th, 2007, 09:46
This isnt looking good, it looks like the game could be full speed, but freezes when reading the ram...
are their any alternative implementations that could be established to work around it, im thinking but it seems dim if the pc version hasnt corrected the bug

-Xandu-
April 9th, 2007, 09:47
The PC version (if corrected) could use plugins, so lets just stay away from the PC version. (Use Daedalus without plugins.)

"factor remix" (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=395707&postcount=15) claims that Paper Mario works with a .sav file, not sure though.

Chameleon
April 9th, 2007, 09:57
Well ive been told that it gets past the game loading screen if you do have the .sav but crashes soon after... it might just be unstable anyways

Sonicboy 101
April 9th, 2007, 13:42

40 Winks never actually ended up coming out for the N64, according to Wikipedia. I also could not find the one that starts with "u". But I tested the rest:

64 Trummp Collection: Alice no Waku Waku Trump World - does not load

64 Oozumou - freezes at menu and crashes the emulator

64 Oozumou 2 - Freezes after menu

64 de Hakken! Tamagotchi Minna de Tamagotchi World - does not load

Yakouchuu 2: Satsujin Kouru - does not load

Glad to help; I too hope this list is beneficial. You know, I was happily naive back in the N64 days. I wasn't concerned about console wars; I just loved my N64 and so did everyone around me. It's still my favorite system of all time.

All my allowances back in the day would go to buying n64 games ( memorable times they where)

Goldeneye, Mario, Mortal Kombat were all my favs

Hopefully soon we will be able to play those games that we all loved so much with the n64 on the psp... just think of how glorious that would be :)

April 16th, 2007, 23:13
Great job on the last man. I do have a few noob questions though.

When it says "Almost Perfect" does this mean besides the known issues with Daedalus (no sound for instance)? Or does sound work with these games?

Chameleon
April 17th, 2007, 00:18
It means with daedalus' known issues... perfect meaning that the greatest potential for a full speed transition lies within those games

PLZKLLME - were you using a version 1.1 rom? IF so, that's why; use a version 1.0 rom.

Anyhoo, I've tested a few:
Aerogauge - works just like it did in R10
Extreme G - A tiny bit faster than in R10, particularly in the menus
Mario Kart 64 - Same as Extreme G
Pilotwings 64 - same as R10
Rampage World Tour - significantly faster
Star Fox 64 - faster, but not during play
Goldeneye - Does not load

I'll try more later.

Here are some games I've tested.

I used the following settings for each game:

Texture Update Check - Disabled
Frameskip - 2
Limit Framerate - Yes
Dymanic Recompilation - Enabled
Audio - Disabled

OK, now the games:

Diddy Kong Racing - Menu text appears but all other graphics do not.

Verdict: Unplayable

Banjo-Kazooie - A few minor texture errors, runs rather slowly.

Verdict: Playable, but slow

F-Zero X - Doesn't Load at all.

Verdict: Extra Unplayable =O

Kirby 64 - Loads, there's sound but no picture. You must load it without sound then turn sound on when it has loaded.

Verdict: Unplayable

Mario Tennis - Major graphical errors, freezes when a match is started, slow, corrupt memory message appears at title screen.

Verdict: Unplayable

Mischief Makers - Minor graphical errors, runs at full speed even with sound on, freezes when a file is created but when the game is reset, the file can be loaded. Character speech text does not appear, crashes when the creatures invade the old man's house.

Verdict: Unplayable

Paper Mario - Loads, opening story runs at full speed with audio, major graphical errors on file select screen and opening story, crashes when a new file is created.

Verdict: Unplayable

Ridge Racer 64 - Major graphical errors, run at full speed with the settings mentioned above, corrupt save data message at title screen.

Verdict: Playable

South Park - Doesn't load

Verdict: Extra Unplayable =O

PLZKLLME - were you using a version 1.1 rom? IF so, that's why; use a version 1.0 rom.

i might of been, i deleted them off my stick cuz they didnt work. ill try them again later using a 1.0. whats the difference between 1.0 and 1.1?

Yo, I just want to say 3 things ^^ :

1) The title of the topic is outdated ^^

2) If you experience some sprite problem in Mario kart ( drivers are buggy, when you turn left or right they stay in that position) or Zela OOT ( Action button only saying "Attack"), Enable the texture update function on Every frame.

3) To get past some crashing rooms in Zelda OOT : disable the Dynarec, it'll be very very slow, but shouldn't crash anymore ( first room in the deku tree for example, when you get the 1st, weapon won't crash), then save in the game, press select and reload the game if you want to enable the dynarec back ( you can't switch it from disabled to enabled during emulation...)

++ B.

Edit :
whats the difference between 1.0 and 1.1? Ibelieve, there are 3 versions, the only changes are the blood color in 1.1 and maybe some dunjons & bosses in 1.2.
I'm not sure, but 1.0 is the gold cartbridge one i believe

Edit 3 :

Since R8 (i believe it is 8, not sure), Zelda is like that :

hey i have just found a way to make the sky of the Hyrule's plain ( not sure about the word ...) appear :)
Just disable the software clipping in the general options of Daedalus. the sky should now be visible but the ground will be cut at some places :s

in fact i'm not sure it has a real impact ...

I just found out Rayman 2 actually works with R11 :)
When you start the rom it appears to have crashed, but if you keep mashing start the memstick light goes on and it gets to the title screen. The graphics are messed up so none of the text is readable but if you keep pressing X (or whatever you have mapped as A) it starts a new game. The opening movie runs at around 20-30 fps, which is actually quite slow since apparently Rayman 2 runs at 60 fps on the N64. Anyway when it actually got in game the graphics were totally messed up, theres like flatshaded polygons of various colors popping up all over the place which obstruct your view, but I managed to get down the slide to the first area.
Here's a couple of screenshots:

http://xs216.xs.to/xs216/07246/sd0001.png
Anyway, this should be moved to the HEAVY GRAPHICAL GLITCHES (playable) category

Chameleon
June 16th, 2007, 19:00
i just moved it to heavy graphical glitches (not playable), It doesnt look playable at the least... with the textures and what not
*good find though my friend

SpacemanSpiff
June 16th, 2007, 19:04
Heh, didn't see that category at first. Well technically it IS playable, you can move around and stuff :)

Chameleon
June 16th, 2007, 19:19
but not to an extent to where you can actually tell whats what... right?

SpacemanSpiff
June 16th, 2007, 19:50
Well obviously you can't really progress through the game in its current form, we're just arguing over the semantics of the term "playable". When I looked at the different categories the first one I saw that would fit was the heavy graphical glitches (playable) category. If I kept reading and saw the heavy graphical glitches (not playable) category before I posted I would have probably recommended that you put it in that category.

SpacemanSpiff
June 16th, 2007, 23:18
Shadowgate shouldn't be in the "very slow" category, it runs close to full speed. It has a maximum framerate of 15 fps and runs at 10-15 fps in R11.

Wow Chamy you're a life saver.

i got pokemon snap all the way to the screen where you put in your name; its obviously still working, cause the sound still works, but the cursor to add letters is pretty much gone, and pressing keys doesnt work at all.

starfox works great, as usual, lol.

Ogre battle doesnt load the menu, and there's big graphical glitches, but it seems to run, at least a little

paper mario allowed me to put in my name, then froze

thats all i've tested thus far!
good luck with the rest of the list!

Harvest Moon still needs some tidying up.
