Hey guys. I haven't been here in a couple years. I haven't really felt the need to play with my PSP, but now I see that you can play PS1 games on it! I was wondering if it is possible to run games with multiple disks (I want to play Chrono Cross) on the PSP currently? If so, is it really slow and choppy? I'm currently on Firmware 2.71. Should I upgrade to this new custom firmware? I know the answers are probably around, but it takes me hours to find them... Thanks!

Yes, you can ;)

I believe most of the game run with full speed

Should I upgrade to this new custom firmware?
Yes, a custom firmware is a lot better. And you need it if you want PSX emulation.

Wow, thanks so much!

Should I get this 3.03 or 3.10 or what? :)

I suggest firmware 3.10OE-A2 because it will allow you to play the newest commertial games along with the latest homebrew and all your custom converted ps1 games.

First downgrade to 1.5 though, because 3.10OE-A2 is NOT the same thing as the official 3.10 so no matter what, do not upgrade to sony's official 3.10.

Thanks again, so I'll go downgrade to 1.5 then. Also, I only have a half Gig mem. stick, will I still be able to play like... Chrono Cross with its 2 disks? Does it compress it ALOT?

The compression is pretty good, yes. Most games I've converted average about 250MB per disc, but specific results will vary.

id recommend a 2gig just because you can have more than 1 ps1 game on there. or if you want buy a 4gig if youre rich enough. i have a 2 gig and it works out great for me along with my custom firmwire cuz ive got lots of homebrew. and im surprised youre not on OE yet, youve been missing out since christmas!!

Haha. I don't even know how to get there... Can I even downgrade from 2.71? Do I have to then update it to 3.03-OE-A, or can I go straight to 3.10-OE-A?

Hey, B_man55, I just updated to 3.10oe from 1.50. I don't know if you can downgrade from 2.71, but I am sure that someone will have an answer quickly. I used an easy installer that Vision posted...it made everything super-easy. I am not very technically savvy, but it literally took minutes once I took the plunge. Here is the link to vision's post:

I hope it works well for you. I plan on playing a bunch of my PSX games tonight on my PSP. I hope you get it working OK. Good luck!

BTW, 1 gig sticks are $25US, and 2 gigs are $40US at Bestbuy right now. You can find similar prices almost weekly in the US. I guess you are in Canada so it may be different for you.

AFAIK, there are 2 ways to go about it:

1. Hope the game lets you save right before disc change, run the save made on the first disc from the second EBOOT

2. Use CWCheat POPS and export your save to a .mcr file prior to disc change, play past it on a PC emulator, save then re-import your save to POPS :)

Either way, the EBOOTs you make have to share a game ID (SCXX XXXXX) last I checked. Hope this helps! ^^

FFVII, VIII and IX all prompt you to save prior to disc change, so I believe you're in luck :)

I bought PSP 3 days ago. It has 2.71 FW and i installed devhooh with hend. Most games works fine. Im a little bit afraid of custom firmware such as Dark_Alex ( i dont want to brick) .But hmm ive got question: Can i emulate 3.03 OE - A , B , C or newer from my 2.71 ??? Because emulating method seems to be 100% safe.

You can't emulate Custom Firmwares via Devhook as it is, I'm afraid. I'd regard the process of downgrading from 2.71 and updating to one of DAX's custom firmwares as pretty damn safe, as long as you don't do something wrong, so in your situation I'd just read up on downgraders/CFW and downgrade/update ^^
