Hey all, I just recently rebought a Dreamcast off of eBay. I got a DC, Powerstone 2, Vigilante 8, and NFL Quarterback Club for $35. The auction description said the DC was 'universal' and could play PAL and Japanese games. The DC was manufactured in Sept. 1999 with a circled 1. Here is the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=280107823765&rd=1&rd=1

Anyways, I'm at school now and don't have access to any of my DC games(all at home) so I decided to try to play back up copies, I heard how easy they were to make so I figured it wouldn't be too big of a deal.

I'm having the hardest time getting these back ups to work. So far, I've tried about 7 games and only got 1 to work. I've tried 4 different types of CDs(TDK, Memorex, Fujifilm, and some random AT&T brand), 4 different burning programs(Alcohol 120, DiscJuggler, CloneCD, and Dream Boot), and 2 different CD burners. Here is my problem:

Game 1(.cdi file) - burned with DJ at lowest speed, all default options. I get the DC screen, then the Sega screen, then a delay and the DC resets itself.

Game 2 and 3(.cdi file): burned with DJ also, get the DC screen, then the Sega screen, then goes black and doesn't load.

Game 4(.ccd file): Burned with Alcohol and CCD at lowest speeds. CloneCD I used the GameDisc profile, Alcohol I used the slowest speed, not sure what setting. Get the DC screen, gets to the Sega screen, then freezes on the Sega screen.

Game 5(.ccd file): Same methods as above. Get the DC screen, gets to the Sega screen, then turns white and freezes.

Game 6(.cue/.bin file): Burn using Alcohol, lowest speed, unknown settings. Ran the Utopia Boot CD, put in game disc after it loads, the game disc loads with the Kalisto BG, goes black and never finishes loading.

So far I've only had success two times, with the Utopia Boot disc and game 7. Utopia boot CD was burned using DJ on a Fujifilm CDR. Game 7 was a .cue/.bin, burned using Alcohol, same settings, on a Fujifilm. Game 7 definately works.

I've also tried cleaning the lens with a cotton swap and alcohol, and have also tried adjusting the GD-ROM laser. I'm honestly baffled by what I could be doing wrong. The only thing I can think of is that the original owner put some kind of mod chip in to make it play games from other regions and this is interferring with it somehow. Or all the types of CDs I've used are bad quality...

Please, if you have any ideas, help me out!

Well, as Junixx mentioned, we can't really help you with backups.

I would recommend to stick with your Fujifilm CDRs and download something from http://www.DCEvolution.net/.

We host all kinds of freeware games there. Pick one, e.g. the Sandman Dreamcast Demo Disk Vol.1 (Info & Covers (http://www.dcevolution.net/goto.php?id=88) | Download (http://www.dcevolution.net/cgi-bin/download.pl?file=Sandman.rar)).

Decompress the archive with WinRAR and start Alcohol120%. Choose the Sandman.cdi and the lowest possible burning speed. Don't forget to set the burning mode to either RAW/DAO (or TAO) and burn.
