HI DIGGERS :)

Tyranid has comitted a stunning new version of his PSP remote control software RemoteJoy into the development branch of the PSPDEV repository. and it allows full remote control of a PSP -- including the transfer of the display screen to your PC. Check out the full details HERE (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/psp-screen-to-pc-via-usb-howto-62692.html)

Original Newspost

MY good buddy PsyMan posted this awesome news just a few minutes ago and this should really KICK the PSP SCENE MASSIVELY:

UPDATE - YOU WILL NEED vc++2005 sp1 runtimes (http://33f82b4f.linkbucks.com) (Please Install before trying the emulator)

DIGG THIS NEWS (http://digg.com/gaming_news/Export_Your_PSP_Screen_to_a_PC)

http://digg.com/gaming_news/Export_Your_PSP_Screen_to_a_PC

Heres the news from PsyMan:

Potemkin (codenamed DaSH) is an experimental open source HLE PSP Emulator. It is created and released by ector under the GPL license.

Here are some features of the emulator:

Features: (end-user point of view :)
- Plays Puzzle Bobble Pocket JAP
- Starts AI Go
- Runs numerous demos from the PSP SDK

Technical Features:
- Badly simulated PSP kernel
- Mounts ISOs and CSOs (no DAX!)
- Mounts Windows directories (no good UI yet for this)

Screenshots of some games running:

http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/pspemu/images00.jpghttp://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/pspemu/images01.jpg

http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/pspemu/images04.jpghttp://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/pspemu/images05.jpg

Since ector does not have the necessary time to work on Potemkin anymore he decided to release the source code (under the GPL license) in case someone else wants to continue working on it.

Download the Binaries and Source and Give Feedback Via Comments

Thanks ECTOR for the best release in ages for WIndows Users :)

This will boost the homebrew scene but will definatly also have kick backs. You will see an increase in piracy.

Edit: maybe a safe alternative to create downgrader :D

does this actually work, or is it just a fake with a virus in it, we should have someone check it first because you never if you guys got screwed somehow, everybody please be careful when you dl unproven apps

god im an idiot this is the source code never mind, only coders can find this useful, anybody who cant compile this and make it into an app will find it useless, i guess we have to wait till someone can make a program out of this, sorry for misreading :)

Does it only emulate the psp?
Because in the folder Core there is plenty of folder with the name of others systems such as the DS, the GP32, the GBA and even the GameCube...strange!

wraggster
May 6th, 2007, 21:23
Download the runtimes, install them,

then unzip the download, extract to a directory.

then click on dashrelease.exe

youll have to find your own homebrew/games though

I got this working but I can't get it to load any of my backups or homebrew. Its great to see that progress is being made but this is more of a proof of concept. I can't wait for an update.

actually, it would be very useful to have an accurate psp emulator for making homebrew. then i wouldn't need to have a psp with me to work on my projects. i hope someone fixes this up enough to test code on :D

homebrew only looks to work in .elf form, not .pbp form.

Did not get any of my homebrew working but I did get it to show up in the dissasembler.

Puzzle Boble also worked for me.

Check the readme file for details on what works. There is a huge list in there of why many games dont work.

Heres the readme!!!

Potemkin (Codename DaSH)
Experimental HLE PSP Emulator

Henrik Rydgård (aka ector)
[email protected] (ONLY developer questions and similar)

Released under the GPL since I got bored of fixing stupid bugs and adding functionality to my HLE-simulated PSP OS.

Features: (end-user point of view :)
- Plays Puzzle Bobble Pocket JAP
- Starts AI Go
- Runs numerous demos from the PSP SDK

Technical Features:

- Mounts ISOs and CSOs (no DAX!)
- Mounts Windows directories (no good UI yet for this)
- (FUTURE) Supports game-specific patching through UltraHLE-style INI file

Internal functions begin with __Kernel. These are called when multiple real HLE functions
share code, or when other code wants to affect the PSP kernel, such as loading modules, etc.

yeah i saw that, weird

Its a multisystem project, which is mostly based on nintendo hardware. PSP does not have a 2nd CPU and if you examine the menu under system, the four entries have been converted to "PSP", which should be GBA, DS, PSP, GC.

Attached are some screenshots, which clearly show that it was a multisystem project that never really put more effort in the psp side but the nintendo machines. If some good coder can clean this up and get the PSP thing working efficiently, this is a good emu.

Actualy the PSP does have a second CPU in the unit (but all it's actions could be HLE). The ME is another mips r4000 based core.

As in "Potemkin Village" ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potemkin_village ), since the emulator really is a big fake (it doesn't emulate the entire PSP, it just emulates the CPU and then fakes the PSP OS and 3D chip). This turns out to be enough for some games...

Wow, I'm impressed. I'm impressed with somebody seemingly being able to come up with a working PSP emulator even if it is still restricted - it runs commercial games, nothing else needs said.

I'm also impressed by the Potemkin story. I had never heard of that before but it was really interesting.

Thanks ector !

It's a multi-system emulator from the Dolphin author ector.

For now it only works with PSP.

Basically, this is an emulator that wants to emulate all RISC based systems, like Nintendo handhelds, GP32 and GameCube.

I fear that this will not go far.

Ector had already done an excellent work with Dolphin (if you tried the last version, you know what I mean), but dropped it after only 3 version, and none of the 2 updates brought great changes.

So I think that something so ambitious like a multi-system emulator that sports PSP, DS and GC will not be likely continued from someone else, just like it ended with Dolphin Emu.

DemonicArc
May 8th, 2007, 22:07
but if someone decides to continue the PSP part, they don't have to continue the other consoles, they can just take the ds/gba/gp32 and gamecube out, luckly one emulator working doesn't depend on the other emulators.

So get your head out of your own ass, and stop trying to be a smartass.

Probably it's you having to get your head out of your ass...

The source code IS_BEING_RELEASED just because it is (more or less) PLATFORM_INDEPENDENT, so you can just f***ing compile it and (ok, with a little effort) make it RUN under LINUX.

Your post was such useless... Lots of people complaining it had only the source code, and the one who really had to be the most happy of this thing didn't even think about...

Cheers, A.

And next time, be more polite, as people here work with no profit, ok? Case closed for me, hope you can get it to compile under LINUX, as I'll try in the next days.

It was written using Visual Studio libraries,so it means that you will need to replace all Win32 calls with gtk/qt calls and that is hell lot of work, with a very low probability of succes.Having source code doesn't mean platform independency.

Yes, I see... but I said "with some effort". And apart from all, I would never link tight to MS products, programming in C. It's like portability made unportable... Thou' I have some middle-layer interfaces for such things, but this I'm still missing. If I find some time (kinda one month or so...) I'll write it down.

Anyway, no sourse = no portability; while source = a little chance at least...

Cheers, A.

Most of the code is easily portable to linux. It uses OpenGL for graphics.

The GUI is pure Win32 though, so that would have to be completely replaced.

But I'm pretty sure it runs under Wine anyway :)

does this actually work, or is it just a fake with a virus in it, we should have someone check it first because you never if you guys got screwed somehow, everybody please be careful when you dl unproven apps

god im an idiot this is the source code never mind, only coders can find this useful, anybody who cant compile this and make it into an app will find it useless, i guess we have to wait till someone can make a program out of this, sorry for misreading :)
And now plz say how to do that

argh... when will someone come out with a psp emulator that really works......

Quit whining. If you want a working PSP emu, why don't you program one yourself! People here work hard for nothing. So be patient, and instead of whinning, why don't you post something that will encourage people to work on it more. Like " Good Work!! Keep it Up" or even a "Thank You" should be suffice.

It's not an easy work, just be patient. It's only a hobby.

lol,
theoretically, if this psp emulator ran like psp on a pc, pandora would that much easier!!, therefore wouldn't need a psp, then the whole world could be taken over by homebrew..., soryy thinkin out loud :p
