This comment is interesting:

Update: Magnus the shadow sent this in: The MustUpdate file can run on PSP v1.5 and it is possible to alter it through PSP Unpacker for .pbp files and an ELF2PBP converter. It will be possible for an experienced programmer to create a new .sfo file using the MustUpdate\'s .sfo as the core. Once the .sfo is altered it can be used to run Homebrew apps on a PSP v1.5. Just run the .pbp from the Game\\MS area twice: the first time it will be declred corrupt, the second it will run the app. Best of luck with this

I'm not a coder myself but I see where this guy is going.

The only thing I don't understand is how the MustUpdate file itself can run unless it is infact officially signed.

Does anyone know where to go with this thing to find out what makes it tick?

this DOES have to do with 1.5 firmware and homebrew, so it's against the rules....

but i like the idea, thanks for letting me know, i'll try

i posted this in another topic, but it was deleted later because of inappropriate discussion:

"if you actually want to contribute anything, here is not the place to do it. none of the people who actually work at stuff like that reside here, so all that will happen will people that really dont have a clue as to what they are talking about will post saying stuff like "its impossible" or "yes, that will definetly work, now make us emurators!!!!111".

anyways, i really dont know about the psp, but do you have any actual facts to support your idea? it seems like you are just guessing"

Umm, I have this guy who says he found something out, does that count?

Anyways, do you even have a PSP? Why are you so strict about stuff like this? I mean, This site has the quickest updates on everything PSP-Homebrew related and yet you don't think there are any PSP Homebrew devs on this forum?

I'm just trying to help out man thats all, it's not like I'm posting gay porn.

I'd like to get some insight from some people who know what this stuff means, and I'm sure there are people here who do know this stuff.

This is a re-posting news site. It doesnt have the fastest updates, because the original pages have to be posted first. Also, that last line was part of the quote of what i said in the other topic, wasnt directly related to this.

AND, as for you xuphor, i originally posted that reply to you. and at the time you didnt complain, so that means you have been working on this for all of a week? maybe 2? You yourself have posted links and quotes from psp-hackers.com.

The reason i am so strict is because even though this is mainly a DC emulation site, and has forums for every other console, the newest topics are getting clogged horribly with junk posts (which is why i suggested the 1.5 rule, we were getting almost 5-10 topics a day asking the same question.).

My best suggestion for something like this would be a single unified information dump for 1.5 bios hacking information. Just look at the statistics and you will understand my reasoning: this sub-forum has around 1100 threads and 5000 posts. That means that on average threads are 5 posts long. Other sub-forums average up to 10-20 posts per thread. Also 1100 threads?! The entire Dreamcast section of the forums has around 2000 threads or so.

The fact is, this forum is overrun with people who post with random crap, and is very unorganized in that respect. If anyone wants to actually keep track of 1.5 bios stuff, put it all together.

And xuphor, again, if you are working on this, i wouldnt think that you would just hang around here looking for your information, since barely any has been posted here. if you truely are keeping track of information others are coming up with and such, it isnt being done here, so what do you care if someone copies and pastes something posted on psphacker here?

Something even more interesting from psphacker:
http://www.psphacker.com/
Excerpt:
"Magnus the Shadow sent us a version of the Must Update file that he worked on.

HACKEDEBOOT.PBP is a version that proves the buffer overload method.

1.0EBOOT.PBP is a version that can be run an any PSP.

Just put this on your PSP (PSP ver 1.0/1.5, unsure of 1.51)
under "PSP\GAME\HACK" and rename the .pbp as eboot.

Go to GAME on the PSP Menu and then go down to MEMORY STICK
Execute the file, you will receive the error message of it being corrupted. Ignore that by pressing "O" and then
press "X" again it will bring up the "you must update the ver." window.

Don't worry this program in no way changes your PSP

He had this to say: The .sfo file (PARAM FILE) in the .pbp can be altered to become a loader, but this can only be done through ELF scripting (Which I can't exactly do). Once an ELF loader is written and replaces the You need to update window section of text i believe a Homebrew app can be run. most likely candidate to is the app Turbo Grafx 16, which will allow us launch other homebrew apps from the PSP! "
So now we need someone who knows elf scripting and we'll be set at least in theory to play homebrewn games on 1.5/1.51 psps!
