Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Development Head of NanaOn-Sha Masaya Matsuura shared his thoughts on the Wii platform and confirmed plans to bring a game to the console.

According to Matsuura, the Japanese have taken more fondly to the Wii than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 due to the smaller size of Nintendo's console. Although Wii presents a more space-friendly appeal, he noted, the machine also provides developers with added difficulty.

"Wii is a very good piece of hardware," commented Matsuura. "Many talented people from Nintendo make great ideas for game hardware, of course. Already I've been starting to think about Wii software, but it's very hard sometimes. Because can you keep shaking the controller for hours? Players can't spend a long time on gameplay, so this can be tough. So I respect Nintendo's activities, but for software designers like us, it's very hard."

Despite the development challenges, Matsuura is in the planning stages of a new Wii game, with work officially set to begin soon. He did not share any further details about the title.

Matsuura created the rhythm game PaRappa the Rapper for Sony PlayStation in the mid 1990s, with a sequel released on the PlayStation 2 in 2001. Considered revolutionary by some fans, the game garnered a strong following thanks to its paper-thin graphic style, quirky soundtrack and zany plot.

Could Matsuura have big plans for the small Wii?
