what do you think, is it even possible on PSP?

Well seeing as it was just decrypted recently and there is not even a pc emulator for it yet, I would say not for a while. About 80% of the emulators for psp are ports of the original PC ones.

And of course I'm sure there is the issue of whether or not the psp is powerful enough.

Main CPU (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU): Hitachi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitachi) SH-2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuperH) at 20 MHz (HD6417099)
Storage:
SCSI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCSI) CD-ROM drive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-ROM_drive)
RAM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAM) (variable amount)

Total on-screen colors: 4096
Resolution, pixels: 512x384
Known games on this hardware: 6

Uhm... a SH2 at 20 mhz. I think it's possible with a dynarec and a very fast memory stick.

Exophase please send your opinion.:)

I too would be very excited to see a CPS3 emu. I've already got all of the Street Fighter Alpha games on my PSP, so why not hope for SF3, Jojo, and Red Earth too?

No, it's naomi system.

has naomi system been emulated?

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 is for Naomi system and it isn't emulated yet. Probabily it will never emulated in PSP because Naomi is very similar to DreamCast.

But what about SFIII? If it's possible, I'll start drooling now...

So what if it only plays (different versions of) 3 games. THOSE 3 GAMES ARE CAPCOM FIGHTERS!! SF3? RedEarth? Jojo's? It's worth it for any ONE of them! I'm playing them in damn-near perfection on PC, and they KICK. Warzard is like the evolution of darkstalkers mixed with DnD (I don't know who slept with who to begat that strange beast, but I'll take it), Jojo looks/plays WAY better than the PS1 version(which does work on pops, but still), and ThirdStrike? C'mon kids, I'd sell ANY of you into the flesh trade for a chance to adhoc THAT on PSP. So can someone with better japanese skills than me get in touch with NJ about this? Tell him we NEED his genius!

so can the psp handle cps3 emulation?

ganon
August 25th, 2007, 15:45
well reading that the xbox was barely able to emulate it i guess the psp is a no go

I want to see dead-on accurate specs, so far I've seen a lot of things that don't agree with each other. I've seen 40MHz SH2, 20MHz.. if it's 20Mhz SH2 and if the graphics play nice (and can be hardware accelerated) then it's perhaps possible, although SH has its own challenges that make it less than idea to dynarec, like having more branches be indirect than your usual platform.

The fact that it only has 6 games for it (with some being similar to others) means that a lot of assumptions can probably be made, I doubt you need a very accurate emulator.

XBox version is probably a simple port, probably doesn't have a dynarec. Given how quickly they got all this working CPS3 is probably not a very complex platform.

Finally, CPS2 is much weaker. Even a 12MHz 68k is kinda a joke to emulate compared to other CPUs of similar clock speed. Not a problem for PSP.

it's possible for cps-3 to be emulated on psp but for naomi it looks impossible

But the PSP is struggling with Snes emulation. How could it handle CPS3?

CP SYSTEM III (CPS3) HARDWARE

Main CPU : Hitachi SH2 @ 25 MHz
Storage : SCSI CD Rom, RAM and Flash ROM.
RAM : SIMMs on the left will physically hold 16M of data each (each has 8x 16M Flash ROMs, there's 4 SIMMs plugged in on this board). The SIMMs on the right will physically hold 8M each (there's 4 Flash ROMs on each board and there are 2 SIMMs plugged in)
OSC : 60MHz. 42.9545MHz, XTAL 3.6864MHz

That's like saying "is the dreamcast ever going to be emulated on the PSP?" which, of course, is a big no.

The fact that Naomi is the Dreamcast Arcade counterpart (the Naomi having better specs, and power not to mention seen some upgrades), we would have better luck seeing MAME 0.124 running flawlessly with some of the 3d arcade boards not emulated, than Naomi.

Dreamcast emulation is more probable on the psp, but I'd wait until the PSP 2 comes out before hoping for any of the 128bit consoles and Arcade boards to be emulated on currenctly the most powerful handheld on the planet.

Well the Xbox could hardly handle it at fullspeed (and occasionally lags).
So a PSP port would need a lot of work.

Don't be so sure yet, I mean remember Power Stone and Power Stone 2? They were re-released for PSP and they look damn good, almost like the Dreamcast from what I remember when I had one... now a days developers, if you hadn't noticed, can make better looking games with less efficient hardware, for example compare the graphics of the PS1 to the PSP, while the PSP's graphics don't necceserely blow the PS1s out of the water we can agree that they are considerately better yet they are running on hardware that is much smaller...
