For starters, Im extremely new to this PSP Emulation//Homebrew scene. To be honest, I never really knew such a large community existed until I discovered it last night.

I got pretty excited and ran to Best Buy to Upgrade my memory card to 2.0G from a whopin' 32MB, in order that I could start playing all my favorite sega, PSX, and nintendo games. Well, as I started reading and slowly learning how Downgrading and things of the like work, I came across the fact that anyone with version 3.03 or Higher ( I believe thats the version) is basically screwed until a crack comes out in the distant future.

Once again, excuse me if Ive said anything retarded to this point, this is all extremely new to me. My one question is: With Version 3.40, can I still download such things as Dark Alex's 3.40 OE Frimware? If so, what does this program allow me to do ROM//Emulation wise?

Im just incredibly confused as to what is a safe emulator, loader, etc to transfer unto my PSP. After reading about Bricking ... Im not taking any risks until I know what I can and cant do at this point. So basically, is there anything available to me? Emulators? Instant Message Programs? Etc? I want to tweak out this $200 piece of crap so that I can do more than just play mediocre to terrible games, look at photos, listen to music, or watch porn (probably my favorite feature thus far).

Thanks for your time and I hope im not "doomed"

The psp is not a piece of crap firstly. Secondly, I suggest you find a copy of lumines or buy one quickly before sony release new versions. I've just ordered mine from play.com for 8.99 and wait for either a HEN eloader or a downgrader. Your best off downgrading though......................give it a few weeks. But buy lumines asap!!!!!!!!

Was totally kidding about this thing being a piece of crap. =P

But do you know anything about DAX's 3.40 EO? Wondering if its version number coresponds to Sony's Version 3.40

Also, in more direct response to your post, You have to remember I have next to no idea what im doing and am slowly learning. How would owning Lumines would help my situation? I remember reading stuff about downgrading via GTA:LC, but god knows how

>_<

Have no fear, a new exploit for any firmware up to 3.50 has been found! (check the front page)

A) Buy Lumines because Noobz (a group of hackers) had found an exploit. This mean that all PSP Versions (from 1.00 - 3.50), can be cracked running a Lumines UMD game. Soon there will be downgraders for all versions! Buy Lumines NOW because Sony may release new copies of Lumines that won't have the exploit.

B) 3.40 OE is not a program, it's like the 3.40 version that you have in your psp. 3.40 OE will let you run your PSX games, hombrews and emulators, plus having all the functions version 3.40.

C) Emulators, hombrews and others programs wont brick your psp. Only the programs that "write" in "flash0" (like PSPīs heart) may brick your psp. But dont worry, there is about 5% of 200% of bricking.

Give it a couple of days, and your on your way! Good luck in the world of homebrew. :D

And all OE firmwares have a recovery menu that greatly reduces chances of bricks.

Awesome guys thanks!

Just bought a copy of Lumines from amazon. Tried to buy from one user and 2minutes later after filling all my info out.... went out of stock. So yeah, couldnt be more grateful that the day I question how to downgrade the solution breaks PSP Forum Headlines. Truly a gift. Thanks Noobz! :)

You're so lucky man. Many people (like me) had to wait months until an exploit was discovered.

To make your eventual downgrade/ OE installation easier, I recommend that you hunt down a 1.50 eboot file on the internet. It will be necessary for downgrading, but dcemu does not directly offer it, since it it entirely sony's code. Your other option would be to wait for an "easy" downgrader to be hosted by one of our fellows here.
You will have to way a few more days, but you are practically standing on the threshold of homebrew goodness.

You don't really need to worry about bricking, if you **** up on downgrading that's the only time it'll happen. You just need to follow the directions 100%.

Yeah...just wait for the 3.50 downgrade that will most likely be released soon.
