Codemasters has revealed that the recently released Colin McRae: DIRT sold 500,000 copies worldwide in its first week of release.

The title has also racked up over 500,000 downloads of the PC and Xbox 360 demo

"This success with DIRT is a text-book case of our product development, marketing and distribution efforts all working together to ignite consumer interest and drive sales," said Rod Cousens, CEO of Codemasters.

"Nearly half of our first week's sales are from the US alone, which means momentum behind this series is taking hold in new territories."

The game entered the UK all-formats charts at number four on it's first weekend of sales, and is currently sandwiched between fellow racers Flat Out: Ultimate Carnage and number one seller Forza Motorsport 2 in the Xbox 360 charts.

I can't believe it. I played the demo and it sucked. I can't stand when one half of the screen updates a splitsecond later than the other. I craps me up. And what about multiplayer? Who would want to play a racing game with no head-to-head multiplayer??

Don't get me wrong, my favorite racing game is actually a codemasters game as well - Toca World Touring Cars on ps1. Ever since that game the games have partially sucked. And this one, though another series, sucks as well. If multiplayer and graphic issues were fixed I would love it - but damn - do it right, please
