Yeah sorry, should of said, all with sound. The menu on the emulator just shows all the games that can work but street fighter isnt one of them.

Once the SF2 series works I will be happy. Then once Alpha works I will be real happy. But once Third Strike works I can die happy.

Once the SF2 series works I will be happy. Then once Alpha works I will be real happy. But once Third Strike works I can die happy.

Nobody has CPS3 emulation still and that is all due to encryption not being cracked still.

For first sf2 they just got to fix cps1. for rest & alpha they just need to fix cps2.

I personaly think we would be better off porting final burn then mame for cps emulation.

what mame emu are you guys using... I was able to get it to load pacman, but it never showed anything after it loaded. I was able to access the options menu via L trigger, but thats it.

I am using the one that was the new release of the same version hehe.. cant get it to work properly..

thats what I am using, with the swap exploit...whats your file structure look like ? Mines like this : f:\psp\games\MAMEPSP\eboot.pbp
f:\psp\games\MAMEPSP\ROMS\all rom files

mem stick 1 has the same, except there arent any roms in the ROMS folder.

I cant seem to get it to exit the game though. How do you quit back to the romlist ? I tried the L R Start combo.. all at the same time, one after another, different combonations lol.. cant get it to exit..

I can't even get in the emu. Does it work for 1.50? I run it and it just goes blank and the PSP turns off. All the MAME emus are like this. I used MSSwap, am I suppose to?

June 18th, 2005, 11:22
yes it does work. I had to use method B and create the eboot myself. It starts fine this way for me. How many Mame emus are there ? Where can they be found ?

I tried the JP ROM of DD. It did have sound but played at about %70 speed. I did not play with the clock speed yet though, and want to try some other settings. So nice to see it in it's arcade glory though :)
Last night I tested about 18 games and got the following to work....
Mr. Do!
Double Dragon
Beastie Feastie
Ms. Pacman with a bit distorted sound
Rygar...slow and choppy, no sound
Orbitron worked but I did not care for
Bomb Jack works but no sound
I should mention that a couple of ROM did not load on the first try....so play around a bit.....the only thing that stinks is once I load the ROM it locks my system so that I have to shut down and reboot in order to test each one...

OK just got 'mswaptool_0.2_psp-dev' so I am hoping like everyone else I will have some success running MAME tonight :D

Which version works best for 1.5? I've got 3
xmamepsp_0_1_1_tiny
mame071
mame071t

I'm assuming xmame

I'm assuming that most mame roms haven't been tested yet, if I can get it up and running I will start making a list of the games I test also.

I am having same problem for escaping back to emu menu. L+R+Start does nothing.

Also, is there a way to edit the list that comes up of all the games? There are way more than I ever plan loading. Plus there are a couple missing like Galaga, Battlezone and Tempest.

Swap exploit works fine. I found you a good ten seconds to swap the memory out after starting launcher. (I used to push the memory in and hold it, so it was ready to pop out. But now I relize there is no big rush.

3DRON

P.S. Ms. Pac-Man come sup blank after the esacpe menu.

Mr.Do, Pac-Man, Pengo, Crazy Climber, Time Pilot, Galaxian, Donkey Kong (little sound trouble) work great!!!!!!!

June 19th, 2005, 06:46
Thanks SHIM :D I actually just did that before checking this post. I too am very glad to be able to play ANY games for MAME on my PSP. though there are a few I was hoping to be able to try out that aren't on the list...yet.

YES Zeno!!! I am running MAME on my 1.5 PSP using "mame071t"
There is quite an extensive list considering this is only the 2nd version of MAME for PSP (I think). I remember when it first got running for Dreamcast only like 5 games worked :p

Here's what you need to do:
1) Get the latest version of PBP Unpacker@ www.pdc.me.uk/pbp ...0.94?
2) look at the tutorial for MSwap (B method) it will walk you through step by step to create your own eboot.pbp (Thanks shizzle and Chrone!!!!)
Oh... and when you make the "Title" it doesn't have to be "PSP-DEV SWAPLOIT" you can just call it MAME. And you will also see that you can use your own little PNG files in there as well.
PSP\GAME\MAME is where the pbp will go
PSP\GAME\MAME\ROMS is where your roms go

Using MSwap didn't help me much but the tutorial sure did.

***AND ON THE MAME FRONT***

Here's what I've figured out so far...

At the Gamelist
Left/Right goes Up/Down a whole page
L will bring up some EMU options - (Sound/Rate/Screen/Frame Skip/Vsynch/CPU Clock/Color)
Press O while a game is highlighted to bring up it's specs (shows actual zip name)
Press O again to execute the game or X to stay at the gamelist

I also have found no way out of a game back to the (mame) Menu... BUT when you "Home" and exit from the (mame) Menu you will go back to the main PSP screen without any problems. So further developements will hopefully fix this problem.

Here are the games I've tested so far...I will continue to try more I am sure.

Donkey Kong (noise/color glitch but plays great)
Donkey Kong Jr (noise/color glitch but plays great)
Phoenix (excelent)
Mr Do! (excelent)
Galaxian (excelent)
Elevator Action (caused system to lock-up)
Donkey Kong 3 (caused system to lock-up)

Jdemon
June 19th, 2005, 14:59
Anyone still having problems can get a "ready to go" copy on my website (see my profile)

**A few more things I've Noticed**
If you set Vsynch - 'ON' you should have no lock-up problems exiting the game via the "Home" exit.

When changing settings make sure you highlight "Continue" and press O this will keep your settings and save them to the MS

I tested a few more games..maybe I will get to a few more tonight

Crazy Kong (sets 1/2/ckongalc)- looks great but can't get the coin to work :(
frogger/froggrmc - lock up
return of the invaders - lock up
tazz-mania - working/no sound
mspacpls - 100%
pacman (galaxian hardware) - Plays Great/No Sound
vanguard - looks good but won't START :(
jungle king/hunt - video too large...doesn't work (need to check the rom)

Zeno
June 19th, 2005, 16:05

The Last Ninja - Shinobi/Ninja Gaiden/WWF Superstars - NOT ON THE LIST and Solomon's key locked up on me :( sorry

3dron - Not sure what you're talking about
'mspacmab' is the best working Ms Pac Man I've tested so far

drcolossus87 - The version of MAME has to be programed/coded for the games it can (possibly) run. So you can't just run any ROM unlike SNES or other EMU's. Nor can you trick it by renaming the zip something it will recognize since it will check for the files inside also.

The list for mame 071 is quite short.
mrdo
genpeitd
hopmarry
skykiddx
roishtar
rthunder
wndrmomo
I only tested rthunder on this one and I have alot of missing files

For 071t refer to the EMU. The list is way too damn long to copy and I have no idea where it would be listed. Perhaps do some searching, there are tons of MAME sites.

Some more new tests:
time pilot - working good/ a little flashy
batman2(phoenix copy) - working but flashy
blkhole - working
bombjac2 - working sweet
ninjakun - working
Elevator Action - found a working version but runs slow and with sound issues

****Important Info****
I figured out how to get back to the Game Menu
Hold Down Select and Press X :D

SHIM

Yay,,,The select x method seems to work,,although it does not work for games that do not take credits,,,,,,,good find demon......(clap clap)

This is a pretty good emu but it has got to have some of the weirdest bugs I have ever seen on ANY mame emu for any console/handheld.

I'm sure they will eventually get worked out.

Jdemon
June 20th, 2005, 14:48
OK now I find there is mame071n also. This has a bunch of games I'd love to get running also.... but it seems alot of my roms are missing files :(
There are more games on the list but here are the ones I'm trying:

digdug (multi)
dkongjrm
finalap2/3 (multi)
frogg
froggrmc
galaga/88 (multi)
ncv (multi)
pacland/pacman/pacmania/superpcm (multi)
rthunder (multi)
skykid (multi)
tekken (multi)

xevios (multi)

mame071n is crap :( can't even get digdug or pacman running...guess I'll just play some NES untill a better MAME comes along.

What I don't understand is how come games(roms) that work fine on my PC say they are missing files for the PSP version of MAME

3dron
June 21st, 2005, 00:09
Jdemon, are you saying Pac_man and DIg-Dug worked on earlier version of Mame. As for Shinobi and Revenge of Shinobi, it was the Genesis emulator. Sorry for any confusion.

Ron

P.S. Pac-Man worked for me the first time I tried it, now it is just black after OK screen.

Jdemon
June 21st, 2005, 02:23
NP :D I assumed it was something like that

I think to say they "worked" is a bit strong of a word. They are listed on mame071n along with alot of other cool games like Tekken (lmao) I think the closest I got to a working game on anything I tested was test paterns or a line grid...

Ms Pacman works nicely on mame071t as do a bunch of games (refer to most of my posts here for what I got/didn't get working)

Here's the pacman list for 071t the only one I have the complete rom for is the Galaxian version.

Pac-Man (Hearts)
Pac-Man (Midway)
Pac-Man (Galaxian Hardware) - works great/no sound
Pac-Man (Midway, harder)
Pac-Man Plus

SHIM

Pretty sure you need the pac-man parent rom for these to work,,,not sure,,I get the pac-man version with some wierd ass colors to run...

LordVox

I wonder why version .71, especially since that is a pretty recent/mature version compared to what runs on the WinCE/Pocket PC and Symbian O.S.
All of the "simple" MAME ports run from the older .36 version source code and roms and usually support mosy of those (900+) games.

Naturally, this is not as mature as the Win or DOS versions (.97 now), but the PSP port sits strangely in the middle. I hope that there are plans to develop this port further & further!

And I would not recommend any roms over 1 MB in size (actually over 200k or so), since they tend to crash other ports of MAME (PS2, PocketPC, etc)

For the last couple of days, I've been testing the MAME ROMs that the PSP emu supports and finally made it through the entire list.

First, a handy tip I discovered: To exit a game and go back to the main game list, you can either press Select and X together, or press Start and X together then Select and X together. (Some games require the extra button presses before they'll shut down.)

The supported game list was ripped from the EBOOT.PBP executable and verified against the menu list in the app itself. The results are based on the hardware/software listed below, but (as always) YMMV (Your Milage May Vary).

Testing Platform:

* U.S. PSP with v1.50 firmware
* KXploitTool v0.3 no-swap loader
* PSPMAME071t
* Full ROM set for MAME v.9301

Here is a key for some of the frequently-used comments:

* OK: Plays with no defects that I noticed

* Loads - Black Screen: MAME loads to the OK screen, but the game itself won't run

* Won't Load: The MAME OK screen won't even appear

* Hangs at ROM check: The game runs, but doesn't make it past the self-test

* Attract only: The game loads and goes into "attract mode" (demo, high scores, etc.) but won't accept credits and/or start.

* Any description that includes "Playable": If you can live with the specific flaws listed, you can play the game.

* Must Remap Buttons: The game is playable, but only after you go into the config menu and change the default button mappings.

pacmanbl - Pac-Man (Galaxian hardware) (Playable, slow)

I've played this one on a 1.5 PSP (JPN) with KXploit and i have no sound.
But if you are in the game list menu press the left trigger and set soundrate to 22 kHz, now start this pacman and it will play still without sound BUT it plays at normal speed !

I can't get the other pacman (midway) and msPacman to work.
Both come to the ok screen but after that the screen stays black.

My pacman plus works fine..:P also if games run slow, at games list hit the L button and bump it up to 333mhz and slow games will run at full speed..although the battery will get eaten up.

Hey Nekura, wanna take a shot at the new .96r3 PSPmames (Cacom, Irem, Sega, etc).......? ;)

There's a newer MAME build available for the PSP? If so, I will happily work on another full report! (Please post a link - this is the only version of MAME I was able to find for the PSP.)

I just ordered the 37 DVD ultimate arcade/console ROMs collection from Tiptonware on Friday, so I'll be 100% up-to-date with the full .097 MAME ROM set by the end of the week.

June 28th, 2005, 02:33
Holy crap! Now THAT'S dedication!

Thanks, Nekura. We appreciate all the hard work!

Now I just have to find some way to get these games to WORK. I've got the ROMs, but unless there's been a major update to the PSP version of MAME, I've had no success getting them to start. I've put like, seven different versions of the DK ROM on my PSP, and it tells me the same thing every time, "ROMs missing." It's like the game won't start until I insert a DNA sample from Donkey Kong himself.

That's actually 6 seperate released versions

 Holy crap! Looks like I've got some playing to do this weekend! I'll post the results as soon as I finish. I still haven't received my DVD set, so I can't start until they arrive.

And, yeah - Tiptonware is the best outfit in the ROM burning scene. I know people have strong feelings on both sides of the "abandonware" issue, but to me this is a way to preserve classics that were such a part of my childhood. FWIW, I don't have a single bootleg PSone/PS2 game and the few arcades that are left in Chicago still get plenty of my lunch money despite my new obsession with pocket-sized MAME.

July 1st, 2005, 05:39

Using MSwap didn't help me much but the tutorial sure did.....?

OK, im WAAAAAAAAAAAY confused!!! what is this program for? its seeming like it is used to convert a game or file so it can work on a different PSP version that its not meant to right??? it seems like MAME is only working on 1.5 and have 1.51 (trying to upgrade to 1.52) and it wont run. is this program suppose to make MAME run on the newer versions? if so, where are these tutorials for doing this? The help file seems to be made for computer science and nuclear engineers to understand. Can we get a lamens version on how to get this working posted?

LordVox

MAME (and all emulators, as far as I know) requires either 1.0 or 1.5 firmware.

Nothing (emulators or homebrew) runs on 1.51 or 1.52 (at least not yet). Generally speaking, the older your firmware the better. I will NOT upgrade my firmware, even if it means I can't buy and play Grand Theft Auto or Gran Turismo, or even Madden footballl......

Nekura
July 6th, 2005, 19:14
I might upgrade for GTA, but it will be a really, really tough call. (I've been waiting for Death Jr. and GTA since launch, but I've been having too much fun with MAME and the other console emus....)

BTW - my MAME DVDs arrived yesterday, so I'm going to start testing the latest MAME build(s) tonight.

LordVox
July 6th, 2005, 20:11
Cool. Good luck with the project. Looking forward to your working/not working romlists for Mame PSP .96 variants (Namco, Sega, Tecmo, etc). The list you did with the .71 release was great!

For the last couple of days, I've been testing the MAME ROMs that the PSP emu supports and finally made it through the entire list.

* OK: Plays with no defects that I noticed

Verified Working

pleiads - Pleiads (Tehkan) (OK)

Can someone tell me PLEASE, pretty please...please, please please (can you tell I am desperate?!) on how to get this in the list of Mame games using that emulator? When I view the games list, Pleiads isn't on there...

How have you managed to get a different games list inside that MAME emulator?

Pleiads is my childhood game. I am willing to lose a left leg to get it working on my PSP.

Any assistance would be great... thanks :)

ArugulaZ
July 18th, 2005, 16:44
Ironically, Pleiades is one of the few games I CAN play with this emulator. All I can recommend is that you download all the variations of the game (pleiadbl, pleiadce, and pleiads) and put them in a ROMS folder where your copy of MAME071t resides (on my system, it's ms0:\psp\game\pspmame\roms).

Fun fact: the designer of Pleiades, Tekhan, went on to become Tecmo, creator of such hits as Ninja Gaiden, Solomon's Key, and the rack-tacular Dead or Alive series.

Wow, didn't know that ArugulaZ - he was a genius from early on :)

Thanks for the tip - I thought the emulator just had a pre-set games list...didn't know it could read from the folder too and add them to the list of games .... :)

ArugulaZ
July 18th, 2005, 17:35
Who, Itadaki? He didn't start working for Tecmo until the mid 1990's. He's done a lot to keep the company in business, though, so I've gotta give him credit for that.

By the way, if you can't get your ROMs to work with MAME071t, they're probably outdated and you'll need to download fresh copies of them. I don't see WHY the MAME development team forces users to download slightly revised copies of games they already have, but it's an annoyance you'll have to put up with if you want the games to run on your PSP.

You know, I must have the wrong version of MAME... because that made no difference.....

I see a new one has 6 different versions... which one do I download to get Pleiades to work - and is it okay to ask for the pre-made eboot of this emulator I can just drag across to my PSP, as I am obviously too stupid to get this to work otherwise :(

Really need help... sorry....

July 24th, 2005, 18:58
Yeah, found out why, the above version people are talking about only works on 1.0 PSPs... PSPMame is the currently the only one working on 1.5 PSPs but it just plays a few games....

Jdemon
July 25th, 2005, 02:52
Well there are 3 diferent versions of Mame for PSP so far...

Mame 0.71r which is the one that doesn't seem to do too much on ver1.5. Not sure about 1.0 as I only have 1.5

Mame 0.71t aka XMame PSP which is the version this topic is for and there is a full listing for somewhere on here of what does and doesn't work.

PSPMame 0.96 this is the one that has 6 variations and the sweet Analog Stick control :D

anyway... for anyone having problems getting 0.71t or 0.96 running I have EZ files on my site. I will be updating in about 2-3 weeks as soon as I have some time on my hands...so if you're interested just keep watching my sig.

...and btw fatsausage Pleiades does work on 71t not sure about one of the .96 versions though...you should try my files :D

Hopefully someone will get them to run sideways like you can with the Namco Museum (Japan) UMD

I will try them now - thank you so much!!! Man, if I can get Pleiades to work on my 1.5 PSP I will be so happy :)

--- tried it and it works!!! --- :) :) :) Thank you so much!

On a side note - how do you add roms to the list? I want to play commando using the mame 0.71t Custom from your site and have moved commando.zip across to the roms directory, but it isn't picking it up... can that emulator allow new roms to be added?

LordVox
August 3rd, 2005, 19:38
"can that emulator allow new roms to be added?"

-NO! Sorry, the emulators appear to be hard coded. They play about half of the games in the list. It's all trial and error :(

Someday the PSP will be able to run Marvel Vs Capcom, Mortal Kombat, etc.. it's just a matter of time. Which may be a long time.. but you never know. For now, I stick with SNES and Genesis.

geise69
August 18th, 2005, 15:46
I'm sorry but that will never happen. Not enough ram in the psp to let that happen. People just don't understand that or tend to ignore it thinking that it's not true. I would love to play Marvel VS capcom, but it's just not ever going to happen. Maybe on psp2 if it gets more ram and a faster processor.

I am almost certain super puzzle fighter was a CPS2 game. if thats true, well there is probably no hope for you.

I havnt tried it, but this is what i believe to be a cps1 emulator

for some reason the only thing that worked for me was deleting everything and then putting that on first....it then worked. Then I just put everything back on.

Hi

I never believed this when i heard about this but when i tried it myself, it was so easy. You just need to complete one free offer then cancel it before it starts to cost, then refer friends to do the same! Do not bother spending hundreds on the new consoles when this is free. The site is. . .

Struggled with this one...finally got Galaxian to run, but upon exit crashed my PSP big time. Had to force power it off (although I didn't have to remove the battery, thank god.)

Also, it smoked my battery big time. Must run at a higher processing speed. Just didn't seem worth it, but I was curious and it did "work" after a fashion.

Looking for a bit of help please. I've read that somebody got Bombjack Twin working on PSP. I have a US 1.5 PSP and I can't get it to work for love nor money.

I got Bombjack working with MAME 0.71 no probs and I think I know how to install emus no problem. BJtwin just doesn't show up on any rom lists on my PSP though.

I tried MAME 0.71t (aka XMAME PSP???) to no avail.

Can somebody who has actually had it working tell me :

which exact version of mame emulator should I d/l from this site?
do I have to find a newer version of the (bjtwin.zip) rom?

I have no probs playing the rom on my PC, but I'm not fully up-to-speed with significance of new versions of mame (ie why would a newer version not play a rom that an older version played), and I don't know anythin about merged roms.

Come on - somebody make it easy for me.

thanks for any help you can give me!

Ptwenty

p.s. Why do the versions of MAME for PSP on this site say NES emulator for PSP on their respective pages? If I'm a feckin dumbass, somebody take me out into the field and shoot me in the head. thanks

Number one don't ask where to find or download games. Unless you want to ask "Where can I find PD (Public Domain) games or demo's to test these EMU's" and I'm not sure how they would respond to that either. I don't believe this EMU supports any nintendo games even their arcade versions though I could be wrong. I know many games that are available on Nintendo's systems were also arcade games at one time though if Nintendo was the original publisher I'm not sure. Example: 1942 Arcade Version vs 1942 NES Version. This EMU won't run the NES version only the MAME one.

Man I've been beating my head against the wall tring to get a MAME emu that would play my fav. arcade games like CRuisin USA ; MK4; Soul Caliger ect... I just new it was too good to be true. Maybe in time they will at least have some decent stuff running on them. I still have over a GB free on my ms; ill just work on something else...

none of the games that you mentioned mr shizzy will ever be running through a psp version of mame so you can stop banging your head now. or simply play your faves on the pc version of mame.

Hi there you all, this is my first post ever, so excuse any little thing I might do wrong (especialy my english), actualy is a simple question...

I've got some roms (mame roms), of the MK series, and I would like to know if there is a way to play them on my 1.5 PSP, because I'm a bit tired of playing the Genesis version (wich sucks big time, and Snes version even worse), so if anyone could help me.... I would apreciate it very much.

thanks in advance, MasterKain

You must find a PSP emulator that specifically supports the ROm format you have. As far as Mortal Kombat- you will have to wait out for a PS1 or N64 emulator.
Try Ultimate MK3 on SNES. It's the best version avaliable.
