i just got a new Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo, HIgh Speed. The problem is that the transfer rate is EXTREMELY slow.

I have a Sony 2gb that came with the PSP. I can transerf some 200 rom files in about a minute to that card. To the new 4gb card it takes 55 minutes for the same files.

I know it might be a fake Sony card. But is 4gb supposed to be slower than 2gb?

Is there a way to find out if the card is a fake card?

Yeah, it's way slower, especially when loading something from the psp.

I got one from bestbuy and it's slow, just have patience.

Google Dicko's Speed Test, check the RAW speed!

Thx.. guys.
I know now that the card is a fake. I looked it up.

But someone told me I might speed it up by formatting it in FAT16 instead of FAT32.

How do I do that? I only get FAT32 as option in Windows XP when I try to format the card.

You can see if the card is fake or not by pressing the Memorystick icon in the XMB. It should say "Magicgate: Supported" if it's real.

4gb and 8gb memory cards use FAT32 instead of the much faster FAT16 that 2gb and down use. Basically you need to format your card to FAT16 using Windows Xp or up and that will greatly increase your speed. When I got my 4gig in I formated it this way before even using it.

I have a 4gb and never reformatted it and never had any problems with transfer rate, although its possible it came fat16.
