Microsoft’s Surface product manager has admitted that the RT branding for the firm’s first-gen tablets confused customers.
Speaking to ARN (http://www.arnnet.com.au/article/528867/surface_rt_confusing_microsoft/), Jack Cowett revealed that for the second-gen models, ‘RT’ was dropped in favour of ‘2’ to make it easier.
"We think that there was some confusion in the market last year on the difference between Surface RT and Surface Pro," said Cowett.
The Surface 2 comes with a full HD screen and updated internals. It also has a new two-stage kickstand designed to make it easier to use on your lap. Cowett said this addition is a result of users complaining that the original Surface was difficult to use as a laptop.
Other new features include a thinner and lighter design, battery life of up to 10 hours, and a new silver colour variant.
Last week, Microsoft tweeted that the pre-order stock of the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 wasclose to selling out. (http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/microsoft-surface-2-and-pro-2-nearly-sold-out/032123)
Set to go on general sale on October 22nd, (http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/microsoft-launches-surface-2/031967) the Surface 2 will start at £359 and the Pro 2 will start at £719.
