All you need to know about the new PSP design, PSP Slim.

Sony finally confirmed the existence of a PSP Slim model at today's E3 press conference. While the new model may look the same, its 19% slimmer and 33% lighter. Additionally, it will sport a longer lasting battery, faster UMD drive, and feature the ability to use a cable to connect to a HDTV to display content.

The new model will be sold in two new entertainment packs. The first is the Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack, available in September, which includes the PSP Ice Silver model. Second is the Star Wars Battlefront PSP Entertainment Pack, launching in October, which includes a Ceramic White PSP. Both packs will retail for $199.99.

In addition to the entertainment packs, Sony plans to roll out a new version of the PSP Core Pack, sporting the newly designed PSP Slim. It will retail for an MSRP of $169.99, and launch in September alongside the Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack.

CULVER CITY, Calif., July 11, 2007 – In conjunction with a global announcement by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) today announced the availability of a new PSP®(PlayStation®Portable) that has a more streamlined form factor and a video-out port, offered for the first time in this territory in two exciting new PSP Entertainment Packs. PSP “Ice Silver” will be included in the limited-edition Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack, available in September. Also, a collector’s edition PSP “Ceramic White,” including a Darth Vader silk-screen on the unit, as well as the PSP exclusive title, Star Wars Battlefront®: Renegade Squadron™, will be featured in Star Wars Battlefront PSP Entertainment Pack, launching in October. PSP Entertainment Packs with the new colors, revealed at the E3 Media & Business Summit today, will be available for $199.99 (SRP).
“We are very pleased to be taking part in the global roll out of the newly designed PSP, while providing something unique for users in North America,” said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. “In response to consumer interest, we’re offering additional colors as part of this enhanced design to match users’ personal styles and interests. The Star Wars Battlefront bundle in particular is a great opportunity for consumers to get on board with a collector’s edition ‘Ceramic White’ PSP. Also, the new video-out port, which gives consumers the option to enjoy PSP content on the big screen, brings a whole new dimension to the PSP experience.”

The first newly designed PSP that will be released in North America is the limited-edition Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack, which will be available on September 10 and provide users with everything they need to enjoy the ultimate in portable entertainment, right out of the box. This package will feature a PSP in “Ice Silver” along with the award-winning, action-packed game, Daxter; the hit TV comedy from 20th Century Fox, “Family Guy - The Freakin’ Sweet Collection” on UMD™ (Universal Media Disc); and a 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo™, for storing photos, music, video clips and more.
The limited-release Star Wars Battlefront PSP Entertainment Pack, available on October 9, will allow owners to experience their favorite Star Wars battles any way – and anywhere – they want with a special “Ceramic White” PSP featuring a silk-screened image of Darth Vader on the back of the unit. Also included is Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, the next chapter of the best-selling Star Wars Battlefront series from LucasArts. Set during the Original Trilogy era, the game is the previously untold story of a ragtag ensemble of battle-hardened rogues and scoundrels assembled by Han Solo. Now for the first time ever in Star Wars Battlefront, you can customize your character, select your weapons, choose your abilities and create a different experience every time you play. A stand-alone version of Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron will also be available on October 9.

“We’re really excited about the next chapter in the most successful Star Wars video game franchise ever, and since we created Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron specifically with PSP in mind, it’s the perfect companion to the newly designed PSP hardware,” said Jim Ward, President, LucasArts. “And the Darth Vader image silk-screened on the back of the unit adds to the mix to make a great package that should be high on the holiday gift list of both gamers and Star Wars fans alike.”
In addition to the new PSP Entertainment Packs, the current PSP Core Pack will continue to be available at $169.99 (SRP), with an enhanced-design PSP in “Piano Black,” an AC adaptor, and battery pack slated for September.
Driven by the recent $30 price reduction, the buzz from the “Dude Get Your Own” marketing campaign, and the breadth and depth of its software, the PSP platform has seen a significant lift in sales at retail in North America.

More than 140 games will be released for PSP this fiscal year, including more than 20 third-party titles currently slated as exclusives. First-party studios will be responsible for eight exclusive games, including several key titles that are playable at E3 this year: God of War®: Chains of Olympus, Jeanne D'Arc, NBA ’08, Parappa the Rapper™, Pursuit Force™: Extreme Justice, SOCOM US Navy SEALs: Tactical Strike, and Syphon Filter®: Logan's Shadow.

Tokyo, July 12, 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today unveiled an enhanced design for PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system (PSP-2000) that has a more streamlined form factor and a video-out port which will become available in stores from September in Japan, North America and Europe.
While succeeding the basic functions and design philosophy of the current PSP including a 4.3 inch wide high resolution LCD screen, overwhelmingly large for a handheld device, new PSP is 33 percent lighter and 19 percent slimmer than the original version, making the all-in-one handheld entertainment system even easier to carry around at approx.189g in weight (weight of current model is approx.280g) and approx.18.6mm in thickness (thickness of current model is approx.23.0 mm).
Adding a video-out port(*1) enables new PSP users to experience high quality UMD™ (Universal Media Disc) Video, pictures and movies from Memory Stick Duo and game software titles(*2) on their TVs at home. Also, new PSP is equipped with enhanced feature to temporarily store game data from UMD, reducing load time during game play(*3). Moreover, the ability to charge the unit through PLAYSTATION®3 or PC via USB cable during data transfer is newly equipped(*4), further positioning PSP as a true handheld device.

A new PSP comes in three basic colors of “Piano Black”, “Ceramic White”, and “Ice Silver” to meet a variety of lifestyle and preferences for all ages(*5).
During the two and a half years since the launch of PSP in December, 2004 strong support from users worldwide as well as an abundance of exciting software titles from publishers around the world have resulted in PSP achieving cumulative shipment of 25 million units for the hardware and 100 million units for software titles worldwide by March, 2007. The expansion of the PSP platform is being boosted worldwide along with its exciting lineup of software titles as well as the introduction of color variations.
SCEI will continue to further expand the PSP platform and create a new world of computer entertainment with innovative and exciting new titles and a new PSP.

(*1) Video output cables (AV cable/S VIDEO cable/D Terminal AV cable/Component AV cable) are sold separately. Product lineup may differ by country/region.
(*2) Progressive TV and PSP specific cable (D Terminal AV cable or Component AV cable) are necessary to output game software titles for PSP.
(*3) Effect of this feature varies depending on software titles.
(*4) PSP needs to be put in “USB Connection” mode.
(*5) Color variations may differ by country/region.
