The purpose of this thread is to inform those who aren’t up to date with the latest Custom Firmware releases and who need clarification in the world of Custom Firmware's for the PSP. I will continue to update this thread with any new Custom Firmware’s. I will also provide descriptions about them and add a list of features and issues to each Custom Firmware. Remember that any Features/Issues listed will be current to the latest Custom Firmware release.

Becus25’s IE Custom Firmware/Expansion

*3.40IE*
Custom Firmware 1.50IE was created as an alternative to Dark_Alex’s OE Custom Firmware. It has some features of OE but isn’t held in the same regard. Later Custom Firmware IE had an update after Dark_Alex left the scene. The update became an Expansion to OE in an effort to continue where Dark_Alex left off. Now the reason we refer to the latest IE as Custom Firmware/Expansion and not Custom Firmware is because it now needs to be installed over OE Firmware. As the title implies its purpose now is to build upon and expand OE.

*3.51IE*
On July 19, 2007 Custom Firmware 3.51IE-A was released. 3.51IE-A was created solely as an expansion to M33 Firmware. Now the reasons we refer to IE as a Custom Firmware/Expansion and not Custom Firmware is because it needs to be installed over the latest M33 Firmware. As the title implies its sole purpose is to build upon and expand M33.

Recent information from Team M33 ( below ) explains that they no longer want Becus25 & Test30 creators of IE & LE Custom Firmware/Expansions to continue work on their expansions to Team M33’s M33 Custom Firmware.

Test30’s LE Custom Firmware/Expansion

*3.40LE*
Custom Firmware 3.40LE-A was created solely as an expansion to OE Firmware. Now the reasons we refer to LE as a Custom Firmware/Expansion and not Custom Firmware is because it needs to be installed over the latest OE Firmware. As the title implies its sole purpose is to build upon and expand OE.

Thank you for your comment! It's nice to see when my work is appreciated. :) As far as I know this is the only PSP Custom Firmware Feature Reference of this magnitude. I figure I am about 75% done. So I still have some work left to do. Hopefully others will contribute by pointing out any flaws and adding new information themselves.

Also, it might be worth mentioning the registry hacks to activate flash player and wma playback that were included in a few firmwares.

Thanks, just added them under OE firmware. I’m a little shocked at how many custom firmware releases they’re for the PSP. Along with all their features/issues can be a bit overwhelming.. No worry’s though I'll finish this! :p Thank you for your help! Hopefully other will eventually take notice and help out too.

It makes little sense to have the old, obsolete firmwares as the first thing you see. I suggest that you rearrange it slightly, leading with entries for 3.40OE as the current stable firmware, and 3.51m33 for those that like to live on the bleeding edge. Then list the others in reverse chronological order.

That way, the information people really need is the first thing they will read.

Very nice FAQ!
Thanks to these kind of things is why I love DC Emu. And thanks to those making them, like V3N0M now! Keep it running and updated. I could help you.
And I think it's ok like it is. Rearranged by release date..

The reason I set it up like was to explain every custom firmware available for the PSP in order of releases. I understand your idea though. So what about a rating system next to each Firmware?

this is impressive, very nice work this should be a wiki, lol

and i presume that the "issues" section is for bugs and such?

well, under 3.51 M33, you could go through the release thread and see ppl mentioning some minor bugs

as for the OE/SE/IE/LE's, well those "issues" are a limited and will be a little more difficult to find

Well the issues I will list here will be current issues or very large issues with any custom firmware. Any issues listed will remain listed until they have been resolved or fixed. Once they are fixed for example in M33's case..

Example:

Team M33’s M33 Custom Firmware

Issues:

- Some Homebrew WiFi no longer functions correctly ( FIXED: Team M33 released WiFi patch which corrects issues with Homebrew WiFi )

aah, kk, so the SE/OE/IE/LE have nothing under Issues, cause they have been resolved to the best of the creators abilities.

well, could you add one issue that i had recently today for M33?

the Issue:
leaving Remote Play causes PSP to BSOD and will crash after circle is hit, after re-setting up is complete it appears to be bricked and will shut down, but will remain normal use after a 2nd-3rd restart [can't remember if it shutdown then BSOD on start up]

Sure we can add this to the M33 issues list. But the one requirement to reporting any bugs or issues is being able to repeat them or recreate the situation. I need you to make sure that this happens every time or close to every time. Just be sure that this is an issue with the firmware itself and not another 'outside' interference.

For instance the M33 had WiFi issues that created problems when trying to use WiFi Homebrew. I tested this with an app named WiFi Controller and found that every time I tried to connect I was given the same result each time. Which along with others reporting issues with other WiFi Homebrews concluded that there was in fact an issue with WiFi in the first release of M33 Firmware.

@Squidman - I added your issue/bug with M33 Custom Firmware to the list! Thank you for your contribution. I'll give you along with anyone else credit for contributing

Remember you can help keep this reference current by posting anything information that isn't listed. I wouldn't expect anyone to write a whole section ( Unless they wanted too of course! :p ) but pointing out features/issues or even custom firmware's that I have yet to add to the list helps. Thanx!

I've just updated the PSP Custom Firmware Feature Reference with FreePlay’s The Puzzle Bobble Custom Firmware! I provided a summery about his firmware along with any features/issues. Enjoy!

On another note I’m getting closer to finally getting this reference up to date with all the latest custom firmware’s and their features/issues. I could use some help testing different custom firmware’s such as this Puzzle Bobble Custom Firmware to see if they're any features/issues missed. So please if you are familiar with any of the custom firmware’s listed please post any information you have regarding any custom firmware features/issues. Your contribution to this reference will be credited and appreciated. Thanx!

Hopefully I won’t have nightmares about all these custom firmware’s! But thank you for letting me know I missed one. Seems like new custom firmware’s are popping out left and right these days. Yes, I've talked to PSPdemon about sticking this thread. He is going to see what he can do to get this thread sticked.

On another note I have updated the PSP Custom Firmware Feature Reference with Team WFi’s 3.01FWi Custom Firmware and Test30's Custom Firmware LE updates. Thanx goes to burrito for pointing this custom firmware out to me. I've also added a few semi-issues under OE. Now its time to try and track down any other custom firmware's I may have missed.

Well it started out as more of a PSP Custom Firmware FAQ but I agree it has evolved into more of custom firmware reference. So I'll have the name changed ASAP. Thanx! I guess PSP Custom Firmware Reference sounds good? I want to try to come up with a name that really just says.. PSP Custom Firmware – All You Need to Know KICK ASS REFERENCE!

V3N0M you're missing two important features on the M33:

- Support for plugins in homebrew.
- New Sony's No-UMD driver support.[np9660.prx]

And you should add under the Issues list that the issue with the custom battery icon is fixed, all you have to do is use the 3.51's rco decrypted and not the 3.40's.

And on PJ's XR.It says on his site (http://pj1115.deviant-gaming.com/WordPress/) another feature you don't have:

- Screensaver app for the XMB.

Also,I read that XR will be an add-on for M33,and not a stand-alone Custom Firmware anymore. That's great for people like me,afraid of Flashing from a firmware to another to see which one is better.

Another Custom Firmware is the Eiffel56's 1.53 CFW,and the features are:
Released date: February 19,2007

- Recovery Menu
- Boot Menu
- Integrated uxMB
- You can start 1.00 style EBOOTS
- You can hide corrupt data icons
- You can start ISO/DAX files
- You can load your own plugins(PRX)
- Autoboot EBOOTs at startup
- Never turn off the backlight in XMB

Another is the GameShark's 1.5 Media Edition Firmware,which I don't know if it's even worth posting it here,but hey,it's something. :p
Released date: December 30,2005

Features:

- Extends media capabilities to take advantage of codecs available in 2.0 firmware.
- To be used with MPH Firmware Launcher

Hope that helps!

Hey thanks for the info and yes I plan on adding every custom firmware available ( Even some that haven't been released yet ) for the PSP to this list. I've been a little busy with other things but I'm getting around to updating it with a variety of new custom firmwares. I'll try to knock out a couple of the custom firmware's you and DarthPaul mentioned tomorrow.

If you have the time and want to help out feel free to make a summery along with a list of Revisions, Features, and Issues to one of the custom firmware's you mentioned. That would help me a ton. Oh and if you could keep it in a similar format as I have this set up that would also help. You will be credited for anything you add. Thanx!

Well you can just post any new information in this thread. It looks like DarthPaul has already added the eiffle custom firmware. So you can pick another one if you want too. Trust me there are a lot of others to choose from. I'm still a little shocked at just how many they're.

Dang I already did it :(, I didnt look at the previous posts... my bad.

Eiffle56's 1.53 Custom Firmware/Expansion

Made to suit the 1.50 fanatics who were weary to upgrade to Dark Alex's
OE firmwares. It didnt have many ground breaking features that hadnt already
been implemented by Dax's proof of concept or Harleyg’s Custom firmware
except the loading of ISO and DAX files without the use of Devhook.

Revisions:

1.53 Custom Firmware

Features:

- Loads ISO/DAX files
- You can hide corrupt data icons
- You can load your own plugins(PRX)
- Autoboot EBOOTs at startup
- Never turn off the backlight in XMB

Issues:

- You need an UMD inserted to load ISO/DAX files

Hey it's cool! You have a little more information than DarthPaul was able to find so in my book that's a success! Thank you very much for your help! Also I know a lot of people are not willing to do it but the best way to find out all the features and give a accurate summery on these custom firmware's is to test them. It easier to understand everything a custom firmware has to offer if you have had experience with that particular custom firmware.

On another note I've also decided to change the format a little. From now on any issues that have been fixed will be deleted. Only issues that..

1. Can't be fixed
2. Not yet fixed via update
3. Quick Fix

Examples:

1. M33 customizing the battery icon causes problems and only way to fix this is to use a decrypted 3.51 RCO because it is no longer compatible with anything older.

2. This was a similar problem OE Firmware had between 3.03OE and 3.10OE with the topmenu icons being incompatible with each other.

3. I suppose POPs would also fall under this category as they’re certain issues with POPs that need a work-a-round or can't be fixed between earlier and later versions of POPs.
( Which I could also use help with tracking down so we may add all of them to the list. I can only remember a few off the top of my head.. )

These exceptions only will remain on the issues list. The reason for this is we don't want the issues list being too overcrowded with issues that have either been fixed through an update or are no longer issues.

Feel free to report on any custom firmware you want. All I ask is that you keep to the format for your review of it and try to make sure the information is as accurate as possible. Thank you for all of your help! You've made this a whole lot easier on me!

EDIT: Ok I have updated the thread with all of the new information regarding Eiffle56's 1.53 Custom Firmware/Expansion. Thank you DarthPaul & Chameleon for the excellent work! Now I'm exhausted and could use a rest. ( I've had a long day of dirt biking and It's very late here in the USA lol ) So any new updates will need to wait until tomorrow. I'll try to update this thread as frequently as I can and over the next few days or so be updating the format a bit as well.

3.03/3.10 OE Mix-up (for Undiluted Platinum Modchip users only)

Released on February 18, 2007, 3.03/3.10 OE Mix-up in simple terms is an OE update
for Undiluted Platinum users to have both the vsh for 3.03 and the kernel of 3.10
to launch PSP and PSX games.

Revisions:

3.03/3.10 OE Mix-up

Features:

- Can customize 3.03 XMB
- When you execute a psp or psx game, or a homebrew, OE will switch the
nand to the psp one (containing 3.10 OE) automatically, so you will be
able to play psx and psp games in the higher firmware, and since it will
run on the psp nand, you won't have problems with psx games or with 333 Mhz
- When you recover from sleep mode, OE will also be back to the nand you were,
so you don't need to press L (in fact, you must not press it )
- You can access both flashes via usb in the recovery

For the expansions by Becus25 and Test30, you might want to write that they have stopped doing this at the moment because of the M33 team:

To the attention of becus25 and test30: Please do not do any of your releases based
from our firmwares. You steal and change name but contribute a tiny 20-line plugin.
You are a shame for psp development!

It would also be nice to have download links for all of the custom firmwares.

But that's not a real firmware.

Interesting, I wasn't aware of custom firmware's that can only be emulated. I guess we could add them so long as in the title we clearly state it can only be used with Devhook & MPH Firmware Launcher. It would give the ability’s of a custom firmware for people not willing to take the risk of updating.

On another note Chameleon I've added your information on the 3.03/3.10 OE Mix-up Custom Firmware. Excellent work!

I will try to get around to updating the thread's format a little regarding the changes to the issue’s lists. As well as review the custom firmware’s we currently have listed, checking for any missing or incorrect information. Thanks for all your help!

I've just updated this thread with a TON of new information! Here's a list of all the new stuff I've added..

1. Provided download links to each custom firmware revision.
2. I've changed my definition of what a custom firmware expansion is.. "Any custom firmware that needs to be installed over another custom firmware will now be considered a custom firmware expansion. A custom firmware that can be installed on it's own will be considered a custom firmware in it's own right." -I've decided to follow by these rules because just about every custom firmware available is based on some version of Dark_Alex's Custom Firmware's. :p
3. Updated information for many custom firmwares.
4. Other small fixes to this thread.

That’s about it!

You need to add 3.52 M33-2:

Changes:

- Document.dat of psx games were broken due to some important changes in popsman.prx and now is fixed.
Plus, now document.dat does not need the same gameid as game which is played.

- The compatibility issue with irshell loading psx games in usbhost/nethost has been solved.

- Changes in recovery:

1. Removed the advanced config option "use isofs on UMD inserted", as it is not useful now.
2. Added "Format flash1 and restore settings" in Advanced.
3. Added speeds 20 and 100.
4. When in usb mode inside recovery, it is impossible to turn PSP off.

- The chineses and korean languages did not work in XMB, because they crashed homebrew and recovery.
The issue has been fixed, but korean font is not there, so you need to take it with psardumper from official updater, and put it in flash0:/font/kr0.pgf.

- M33 driver: fixed SBK07, now it work.

With this release we also a plugin to load pops from 3.40, 3.51, and 3.52.
The plugin works in 3.51 M33 and 3.52 M33. In 3.51 M33 you won't see option "3.51", and in 3.52 M33
you won't see option "3.52" (use original from flash for same firmware).

Instructions: copy seplugins to the root of the memory stick. Extract the following prx of a firmware: /kd/popsman.prx, /kd/pops.prx, /vsh/modules/libpspvmc.prx and /vsh/modules/pafmini.prx and copy them to /seplugins/popsloader/ with names like popsman3XX, pops3XX.prx, libpspvmc3XX.prx, pafmini3XX.prx, where XX is 40, 51, or 52.

Activate the plugin in recovery and done! First time you run a game, it will let you choose pops version.
Next time will remember configuration for each game; press R to change it.

The plugin doesn't apply to psn games.

@Everyone-

I've updated this reference once again thanks to the help of burrito, chameleon, and of course squidman! There help was enough to get this reference updated in time before I leave on vacation! So what are the new changes?

1. Current with Custom Firmware's

I have squidman reviewing all this information now but we are pretty sure that with all the new updates custom firmwares have been receiving we feel we're currently up to date with all information on each custom firmware.

2. Reference Format

I’ve been changing various little things to provide an overall easier to read and find information to the user. As well as setting some rules which this reference will go by such as definition of an expansion custom firmware, emulated custom firmware est.

3. Useless Information

We have been going through and getting rid of any information that may be outdated or is now useless due to it being fixed est. We will leave any issues/information that may only have a quick fix. An example of this would certain issues with themes for custom firmware’s that need to be converted to the appropriate firmware.

4. Homebrew Heaven

Homebrew Heaven is now also hosting a version of this reference for people that need information and/or help. The site is new but it shows the signs of what a great community. So check it out for yourself and sign up today! For those interested check it out here.. http://homebrewheaven.net/portal.php ( Or you could just click the Homebrew Heaven userbar in my sig ;) Thanks Mr. Shadow!)
