PS2 Quake help

I'm trying to get Quake working on my PS2, but it keeps hanging on a blank screen. The only thing I can think of is that in the readme, he mentions running it via PS2Link and I'm trying to run it off the HDD.

Would this cause a problem? Has anyone else here played with it at all and gotten it to work?

make sure you have a keyboard and m0use plugged in as it requires those

Would that cause it to not even start, though? I had a Keyboard plugged in, but no Mouse.

Tried it again with both plugged in. Same result.
