Hi, i haven't posted in this forum for about two years since i first got my psp and was obsessed with all the new homebrews and emulators comming out. However i've just regenerated an interest in it but find i'm completely out of date in everything.

I'm considering updating to one of the new custom firmwares so i can play old psx games, i know this forum doesn't like to talk about playing "back-up isos" of my "own" psp games as well but is that made easier on the custom firmwares or can i not do that?

Basically i want to put a new firmware on my psp but i'm very confused as to what to do. If anyone could offer me some good advice as to which new firmware to put on, especially as it seems to be easy to run psx games from memory stick as well now but i'm not sure how to do it. I know there are a lot of guides on the topics which at one point i would have found easy to use but the truth is i'm now so out of date as i've said before i don't have a clue.

I'm running on v1.50 still which i upgraded to from v1.0.

Thanks
- shizzle

What features does 3.40 OE have?
Can you use basically everything the latest firmwares have, and has it the psx emulator? To get that do i need to have a certain firmware, i've seen a lot of stuff that revolves around 2.71 firmware i'm not sure whats special about it i just keep seeing it.
Can i go straight from 1.50 to 3.40 OE?

Yes you can go straight from 1.50 to 3.40 and it includes the PSX emulator and the main features are included in the recovery mode which allow for the PSP to be recovered if you managed to semi brick it and also allows you to modify you PSP and add different modules to it

First thing... recovery mode! if you brick... you just enter recovery and install 1.5 again!

Theme changing
cpu speed
plugins (mp3 in game)
illigal stuff (lol)
kernel change
homebrew
flash0 usb access

lol 2 many to say! well yeah many more!

Yes you can go striaght to 3.40 OE from 1.5, google "3.40 OE winstaller"

As for the ones sticking to 3.40-OE, maybe you've been under a rock or something

On the last update of M33, well M33-6 (all six are in this one) the sony prx that DAX talked about has been implemented and now it has full NO-UMD compatibility, Even the UMD on my drive loads faster, so I think the prx works even for what it was intended for (reduce loading times on UMD)

So yeah stick to 3.40 OE (sarcasm)

M33 has also all the same features that 3.40 OE plus the new no-umd mode

Its not that big of a deal!

The main thing is... how many umds do you know of 3.51 firmware?

There is also little bugs in m33 that OE doesnt have!

basically Every ps1 game works with the exception of about 4 known buggy ones. Ex. Brave Fencer Musashi has a glitch where if you go into a new area it will hang. At least it used to... Not sure how it plays now.

m33 now has no more bugs. and the bugs werent even created by m33, it was created by sony.

battery icon bug which made usb stop working was resolved when using decrypted 3.51 battery icon. so yea. 3.51 m33-7 is better than any of DAX's firmware now..
