First post here so sorry for jumping quick to the help but I was wondering if anyone has english instructions for running CD based PCE games with PCEPv0.7?

In the readme, there is an example toc for DraculaX (i think) but my DraculaX only has 22 tracks (2 data and 20 mp3s). So im curious how this TOC works and if there is a utility that will create one for you?

Any info on running the ISO/mp3 games would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I managed to get Dracula X working this morning. I'll use it as an example of how to get things going:

What you need to do first is rename all of the files with their track number:

01.mp3
02.iso
03.mp3

etc. etc.

Next you make your TOC file. You can get TOC details of most games from this site: http://necstasyman.free.fr/uk/

Here's the TOC for Dracula X:

Track 01 Audio 00:02:00 LBA=000000
Track 02 Data 00:53:65 LBA=003890
Track 03 Audio 03:11:14 LBA=014189
Track 04 Audio 04:57:48 LBA=022173
Track 05 Audio 06:00:67 LBA=026917
Track 06 Audio 07:37:09 LBA=034134
Track 07 Audio 09:00:61 LBA=040411
Track 08 Audio 10:05:35 LBA=045260
Track 09 Audio 13:03:60 LBA=058635
Track 10 Audio 14:47:28 LBA=066403
Track 11 Audio 17:28:05 LBA=078455
Track 12 Audio 19:09:58 LBA=086083
Track 13 Audio 21:40:18 LBA=097368
Track 14 Audio 24:07:69 LBA=108444
Track 15 Audio 27:47:51 LBA=124926
Track 16 Audio 30:13:10 LBA=135835
Track 17 Audio 33:28:56 LBA=150506
Track 18 Audio 34:58:29 LBA=157229
Track 19 Audio 36:40:49 LBA=164899
Track 20 Audio 38:40:50 LBA=173900
Track 21 Audio 42:42:12 LBA=192012
Track 22 Data 46:58:62 LBA=211262

Name your TOC anything you want. Place the TOC, MP3s and ISOs into a directory and transfer this to your PSP.

Next when you load up PCE, select any ROM, then come back to the menu. Select the TOC file you created earlier as your CD-ROM. Your TOC file should be selected but nothing should happen. Now select the "Super CD-ROM2 System V3.00 (J)" as your ROM, press the RUN button and the game should start.

Holy crap... Rondo of Blood works on PSP?! Wow, just wow. Too amazing!

How well does it play? Speed, sound, music etc?

asphalter
June 23rd, 2005, 11:35
I've never actually played on a PC Engine in my life but I love the castlevania series so I thought I'd give this a try.

The speed is excellent and I think the sound is accurate. The music can get a little glitchy with stuttering and popping noises and it doesn't loop back to the start when it gets to the end. The graphics seem very good, although there are a few flashing sprites and things that don't look quite right. I must stress the game is very playable despite these minor problems. Save is supported as well.

I think if you give this a try you'll be very impressed with the emulator.

Awesome asphalter, thanks for the help and the link with the TOC info!

EDIT*:
Where did you get the TOC info for Dracula X - I didnt see it at the site.

I also didnt see TOC info for GINGA FUKEI DENSETSU SAPPHIRE.

ok, so I followed your instructions and created a subfolder in the PCEngine folder called, "Dracula X". In there I have the mp3s, the two iso's, and a .cue sheet.

When I load the emulator and navigate to that folder, it won't find the cue sheet to load.

Am I creating the TOC wrong?

From what I understand, you need that info to be .toc not .cue

Open up notepad and toss this Toc info posted earlier:

I have the game ready right now......Whats a TOC? I have the game installed on my Xbox( and it works great) ...how do I make a TOC?

or how do I make the TOC that the PC Engine emu on psp can find it?

asphalter

Forget the CUE file, it's separate.

The TOC file is simply a text file with that "Code" contents posted above.

I can't get it to work? I did a text document and called it Dracula X.toc. Did the track numbers on the mp3 and iso and put that info on the text doc and put it in a folder(didn't work) put it out side a folder (didn't work?) I must be doing something wrong?

I tried again and it can't even find anything on dracula X?

Alucard
June 24th, 2005, 03:05
OK, I tried this and it worked. I am having two problems, and I just want to see if anyone else is experiencing the same things. I also think that these two things maybe related.

1) The sound effects work and all, however the music does not play. Before the music file is supposed to load, I get the following message:
mp3 init error

once I hit the O button, the error goes away, and the game begins to play. But there is no music. The CD Rom set I have for Dracula X has the following in the readme:
IMPORTANT !!!!! :
Audio tracks had been encoded in MP3PRO !
So you MUST use a Mp3Pro COMPATIBLE decoder , in order to convert mp3 in 44100Hz 16Bits Stereo Wavs.
Nero Burning Rom is Mp3Pro compatible since the 5.5.x.x versions

So I wondering, if there is something messed up with this roms MP3s. If so, is there a way for me to convert them appropriately?

2) My save states didn't work the first two times. I have been trying to replicate the problem. But I can't bring it back up. So my save states are working. It was just weird they did not work at first.

On a completely different note. This emulator is one of the best I have ever seen on a portable device, and the CD support brings it over the top!

By the way, for the people that are having trouble doing this, make sure you rename Track-01.mp3 to 01.mp3. At first I made that mistake and it didn't work. So see if that is the problem.

Here is an update to my previous post. I have tried Ys 1 & 2, and I had absolutely no problem. The rar file didn't have the same readme, so I am assuming the .mp3s were encoded differently. So it seems like .mp3s encoded with MP3Pro will give you this problem. That is what the Dracula X Rom has.

I also discovered what caused my problems with a save state. If you save in a cut scene that access audio from a MP3, the file will either a) not work at all, freezing the rom b) You will get an error message putting you in an endless loop which you must shut down your PSP to cancel out of. c) have no music, and the graphics maybe messed up in the next scene.

A and B happened to me for Dracula X, so I believe the problem is that it was looking for MP3 files, that it could not read as they were the wrong MP3 files. C occured in Ys 1 & 2, while trying to do a save state during the intro movie.

My question is, if I encode the MP3s from the Dracula X games back to wav format, what standard or converter do I need to use to get them to a compatible MP3 format like the one that is in Ys 1 and 2?

Thanks again for the help. And thank you for the author of this great emulator. When Ys 1 and 2 loaded, I got chills down my back. When I was young I played that game religously. It was my favorite game. I hold it in higher regard then even the zelda series due to its story line (or from what I remember). So thank you for bringing that back to me, I have not felt that feeling with any other emu before this.

Alucard
June 24th, 2005, 05:09
OK, I reencoded the mp3 files that were in my rom from mp3pro format to mp3 format, and all is good. This will solve the "mp3 int error"

I tried Cotton-Fantastic Night Dreams and Ys Book I & II and they worked as well.

The readme says something about 128k MP3 files, I'm assuming the MP3's have to be in this format for them to work properly.

Bloodsack - a TOC file is simply a text file with this inside (this example is for Dracula X):

Copy and paste the above 'code' into a text file (.txt) and rename it to (.toc) to create your TOC file.

You need to get the TOC details from the site I posted earlier for other games.

To make file extensions always appear in Windows:

Open My Computer (or any folder window).
Choose Folder Options from the Tools menu.
Click on the View tab.
In Advanced settings untick the box beside Hide file extensions for known file types.
Click on Apply to all folders or Like current folder and OK to the message that appears.

I had that problem at first. You must rename the files on the Dracula X rom from Track1.mp3 to 01.mp3. So

Track01.mp3 changes to 01.mp3
Track02.iso changes to 02.iso
Track03.mp3 changes to 03.mp3
etc...

So just drop the track from the names on the file and it should work. If your files are already in the 01.mp3 convention, then you may have a bad rom.

By the way, I think most of the PCE games work on this, not only Dracula X and Ys.

Don't worry about us putting up with you. Everyone starts out somewhere, and this is not the easiest process to get through the first time around. Just be happy you got help from here cause other sites may have flamed you.

As for the music. It happens on mine as well. It has nothing to do with 128k, as I have encoded the .mp3 in lower bitrates and higher bitrates and had thye same exact results. It is just the way it is being emulated for this game. Its a bit more smooth for Ys.

It's totally not hard. First, visit this site:

http://necstasyman.free.fr/uk/

All right, when you get there, search for the game you wish to emulate. Say, if you wanted to play Dracula X: Rondo of Blood on your PSP, you would first click the link "PCE SCD JPN" on the left hand side of the page. You can't miss it. Now, scroll down to where it says "Akumajou Dracula X - Chi no Rondo" and click it. Pictures of the game will appear, along with a track listing. That's your table of contents. Take the cursor and bring it to the left of where it says Track 01. Hold down the left mouse button and scroll down to the bottom, until you reach Track 22. Highlight this line, including the number on the end, and release the mouse button. Hold down CTRL on your keyboard and press C.

With that finished, minimize the browser and put your cursor over an empty space on your desktop. Right click the mouse. A menu will appear with several options... choose New, then Text Document, then click the left mouse button. Enter a name for the document, then press enter. Now, put your cursor on the document and double click it. Click inside the document and press CTRL and V. This pastes the table of contents inside the document. Now, hold ALT and press F, then S to save the table of contents. Close out of the document. You now have a table of contents which can be saved to your PSP.

June 25th, 2005, 10:55
Er, wait... what happened to the request for a table of contents?

Anyway, I've tried running three different CD-based games on PCEP. Dracula X: Rondo of Blood and Dynastic Hero (think Wonder Boy 4 in a rhinocerous beetle suit) work pretty well, but Garou Densetsu Special refuses to start. All I get is a picture of a forlorn Terry Bogard, sitting on a hill next to a bridge. I guess trying to run an Arcade System game like this one was asking a little too much of the emulator, but hey, you can't blame a guy for trying!

Can someone please tell me why in Dracula X rondo of blood the songs only play once in each level. You begin a level and the song plays as normal then after the songs done...thats it, until the next level? I find this a little weird?

The game runs great otherwise.

ArugulaZ
June 25th, 2005, 22:34
The songs aren't programmed to loop yet, of course. Perhaps that will change in a future update.

Does anyone know if you can double the size of the MP3s by combining two copies of a single track? Will the game still run properly with a double-sized MP3, or will the table of contents file need to be revised?

Just a quick Question. I have done what the previous posts had suggested to get Dracula X working. I have renamed the txt to toc for the contents sheet, have them all in a dracula x folder, and have the super cd v3.0 and did what Asphalt had requested on getting the game to run. But when you say to start any rom, then go back to menu and select the toc....i still do not see it in the emu. I then go to the super cd3.0 and select i then run....and it just hangs on that screen. Have i missed something?

Thank you in advance if anyone can help me with this.

start any game then go to the "Cd Change". if you put all the dracx mp3, iso and toc sheet in one folder. your Dracx folder should be yellow. look all the way down on your rom sheet. the folder should be there and the dracx toc sheet should be the only thing you'll see in there. pick the dracx toc file sheet. then back out and go to card change....look for Suer CD-Rom system v3.00. press the button and you should see the screen saying PC Engine Super CD Rom ver.3.00 with the run button blinking. press start...

Enjoy Dracula X and the best Castlevania game ever made.

if you don't see the dracx toc sheet in your folder...make sure it's not a txt.toc. it has to be Dracula X.toc

Just a quick Question to you folks. How come Dracula X and other TG16 cd games only work with the older tg16 emulator v07? I can't get it to work with the new .52 version. The second Bloodsack told me to try v07 it worked fine. Does anyone know why the new version doesn't support tg16 cd games?

They are different emulators. I don't think the other supports the PC Engine yet.

the Games worked fine but the MUSIC doesn't work i tried and tried with no result ... i am doing this for more than 3 days and still the MUSIC doesn't work  ... this is what i did exactly:

1) i renamed the files to (01.mp3 & 02.iso ..... ) as tould.
2) i made the TOC's like this (DraculaX.toc and the folder has the name DraculaX and i am sure i made it right).
3) i added (Super CD-ROM2 System V3.00 (J).pce) to the HUE v0.70.
4) i converted the mp3pro & mp3's & Wav's to mp3's with more than 6 Converting software to (128 Kbps & 44100 Hz & Stereo) i tried also with Mono & Joint Stereo and still no good.
5) when playing the Game it shows on the TOP that the mp3 is working but no MUSIC its shows like (m0:/PSP/GAME/HUE/DraculaX/03.mp3).
6) Some games i have and some comment on them:

Akumajou Dracula X Chi no Rondo (J) - FX with No MUSIC
Bomberman '94 Taikenban (J) - Only comes with ONE (.bin) file
Bonk 3 - FX with No MUSIC
Cosmic Fantasy 2 (U) - FX with No MUSIC
Cotton - Fantastic Night Dream (U) - FX with No MUSIC
Conan (J) - Didn't find the TOC for it in (http://necstasy.emunova.net)
Download II (J) - This is the ONLY game which worked with MUSIC (Didn't Need to convert the mp3's)
Dragon Slayer (U) - FX with No MUSIC
DragonBall Z (J) - FX with No MUSIC
Dungeon Explorer II (U) - FX with No MUSIC
Exile 2 - Wicked Phenomenom (U) - FX with No MUSIC
Super Air Zonk (U) - FX with No MUSIC
R-Type (J) - FX with No MUSIC
The Dynastic Hero (U) - FX with No MUSIC
Ys Book 1&2 (U) - FX with No MUSIC
Ys III - Wanderers From Ys - Only comes with ONE (.bin) file

Some Info:

Nightwolve has created a tool called TurboRip which allows you to rip you PCE CD games in a format (iso+mp3+toc)which can be directly recognized by the PCEP 7.0 emulator.
You have to use the command prompt to rip the game

- Put the TurboRip folder at the root of C:

- Open a command prompt (from Start/Accessory)and type " CD TurboRip " to reach to TurboRip folder,

( No need to type anything else as the TurboRip folder is at the root of the C: directory)

- Then type " TurboRip /? " to make appear the different commands.

- Press enter to make appear additional commands like "PCEP"

- To choose a command, for example PCEP, type " TurboRip/PCEP "

- Then choose the number of the CD/DVD drive where the original game is found to rip the game.

I already ripped some games this way but still haven't tried to test the rips on the emu. Apparently it's working, according to some people.

You must also have a Super CD-ROM2 System V3.00 card.

Put the your game's folder and the syscard file in the PCEP emu folder, then start up the PCEP emulator and load any normal game (ROM), Go back to the menu again, choose "cd change" and browse for the TOC file found in ripped game folder
Select "card change" and now browse for the "Super CD-ROM2 System V3.00 (J).pce" ROM. When the "PUSH RUN BUTTON" screen boots up, press the START button.
(You need to exit the emulator properly for the game saves to work properly.)

Those two emulators are supplied with a 1.00 eboot, what you need is a program to kxploit the file, something like 'pspbrew'...That program then creates two 1.5 eboots so you can play it on your 1.5 machine. Get pspbrew here: http://psp-homebrew.eu/search.php?type=text&search=pspbrew&desc=&notes=&Submit=Search

Hope that helps ya? :)
